02/02/2026: Truly a terrible hotel, avoid. Old and dirty are the key words for this place. Cobwebs and spiders even on the check-in counter, not to mention those in the hallway leading to the rooms. The carpet dates back to the Paleolithic era, where you can surely find previously undiscovered microorganisms. The breakfast was poor, almost nonexistent. Ants on the beds as soon as you entered the room, not to mention bedbugs everywhere. Do not come here at all!

14/12/2025: In December 2024, we were looking for a nice place for dinner and, by pure chance, we discovered "El Fornel." How lucky! We enjoyed fresh, freshly prepared dishes, accompanied by excellent wine and friendly, attentive service. Everything tasted authentically like home cooking, and was truly delicious. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Trieste!

27/08/2025: We ate at the restaurant today and the waiters were all very attentive and friendly! It was completely full, but everything was quick and the food was excellent. We'll definitely be back!

19/08/2025: Breakfast was poor. Being Italians, we prefer sweet foods, but at this hotel, breakfast was mostly savory. They had more cold cuts than sweet options. Only two types of croissants, and rarely any cakes. Service was almost nonexistent. We constantly had to alert the staff when water and cups were out.

24/02/2026: Our favorite place, we feel at home here. A welcoming and very well-kept place. The staff—there's no word to describe it—are attentive to every request, friendly, kind, and above all, always smiling. The cuisine is special, with fresh seafood, and it shows in every dish the chef prepares. A wide selection of wines, from local classics to those from beyond the region. The bar is well-stocked with every spirit. I recommend going because your taste buds deserve it.

22/02/2026: The atmosphere was lovely, and both terraces overlooked their respective harbors: the local harbor and the industrial port. The food was good (after a 1.5-hour wait, it tasted great!), and the antipasto platter was excellent. I didn't realize that in Italy, one of two glasses of wine could be undrinkable and the next not very good. The service was okay, not impolite, but a bit rough around the edges – perhaps the local culture has rubbed off on them.

09/11/2025: Unfortunately, there were several things I didn't like: first and foremost, the bag on the table with LEFTOVER bread (in addition to a bitten slice, there was also a piece of lemon from the fried food we had at lunch, probably 🤮). The waitress pointed it out, removed it, and offered no apology for this poor service, which I consider very serious. The seafood spaghetti (2 portions) was quite "strange": at least 15 EMPTY clam shells and several mussel shells. There must have been 3 or 4 tiny clams in the pasta, certainly not the ones from the shells... I could think of many reasons for something like that, but I didn't want to assume the worst, otherwise I would have had to get up and run away. Finally, the house wine was terrible, both in its cloudy color and flavor; it tasted like spirit. For this reason too, it's best not to ask where it came from, but we definitely didn't drink it. We won't be returning due to the poor food, the lack of customer service, and the inadequate bill.

31/12/2025: Excellent restaurant. The buffet offers a wide variety of tasty vegetables, making it a great and healthy option.

22/03/2026: Excellent! I've never eaten fish or seafood of such high quality. The preparation was good and down-to-earth, and the Malvasia was also good. The desserts were superb. We were a large group and everyone was thrilled. We've already booked again for a birthday party in the next few days. Thank you so much!

14/12/2025: Incredibly rude! If it's true that there's the option to order a pizza outside the menu, certain personal comments can easily be left unsaid. Remove this option without mentioning that I'm ordering a "minestrone" when I call for a pizza... A total lack of politeness and professionalism!

21/11/2025: Everyone's taste is their own, but to praise and extol this pizza as if it were a delicacy is, in my opinion, a very exaggerated and inflated review. The pizza is average; in fact, I ate it late at night. I'm sorry, but I'll avoid returning. Best regards.

25/01/2026: The fresh fish (catch of the day) was very good, but we weren't given the weight despite asking twice. The potatoes that accompanied it were inedible. The cover charge (€3.20) was excessive for the service we received (three slices of bread without breadsticks, paper napkins, no change of cutlery between courses, no condiments provided). The cleanliness needs updating... the light bulb and chandelier were full of flies/spiders. The sea view was superb.

02/02/2026: Unfortunately, a big disappointment. I ordered a chocolate cake, and it arrived topped with mint - even though I'm allergic to mint. Completely irresponsible and dangerous. The panna cotta was served with peanut butter, which makes absolutely no sense and ruined the dessert. The flavor combinations are random and thoughtless. 4 such cakes and two espressos, €56

26/01/2026: Decided to drop in for a Cappuccino and a treat. The reason is this place is named after my father Harry. Anyway, service was excellent, treat delicious, Cappuccino was wonderful. But of course we can't make a habit of it as it's a bit above our price range which we expected. Great relaxing experience.

30/09/2025: During the renovation we were given rooms on the top floor without a lift and still to be renovated under the roof not exactly a nice value to see living and above all paying other people on the lower floors everything was ok maybe we were the unlucky ones and in any case we were not warned of the differences in quality of the rooms by the manager

07/12/2025: We made a reservation by phone. Sorry, but €100/1 night, 1 room in November is COLD. No one told us how to check in. WE DON'T HAVE 2 GLASSES in the room, and "reception in the evening"/a man was rude. When asking for 2 glasses, he/they said: "You already have 2 plastic bags of glasses in the bathroom" (!) Like after Covid-20, it's already mandatory! I brush my teeth and drink water in identical plastic cups that cost €0.80?? Come on... 3☆ hotels ➡️ 1 double room and 2 chairs/chairs for 2 people and 2 GLASSES for drinking water are mandatory. (!!!) No one at reception - as you can read in other reviews 1 ☆ - clarified any other hotel information. No one was there!! After check-in, the lady who worked the afternoon shift left. The hotel doesn't work with the nearby restaurant or bar. They say... But(!!!) Breakfast is there - like us and others - we paid for 1 night's room + breakfast together ➡️➡️➡️ where the reception doesn't know who they are and what they do!!??? Not together with the restaurant/where breakfast is... or... right? They wrote the hotel's answer. 🙃
