A unique, evocative location with a truly priceless view; the dishes were well-served, tasty, and plentiful... the fish truly tasted like fish, in that, despite being imaginatively prepared, it retained the genuine simplicity of the raw ingredients' flavors. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the brothers were always smiling and polite. It was undoubtedly a delightful discovery, and we're already making plans to return to enjoy their cuisine again.

07/11/2025: A monument built on the ruins of a large Roman villa, inhabited until late antiquity, which between the 6th and 7th centuries became a castrum for the Byzantines who had retained control of the nearby port of Aternum (Pescara), a key landing place and intermediate port between the Exarchate capital of Ravenna and Constantinople. They evidently built the first nucleus of the historic Torre Alex (named after Alessandro Valignano, one of the lords of the Valignano di Cepagatti family in the 17th century). The tower was consolidated in the Lombard era as a control point for a strategic road junction at the crossroads of the S.S. Picena Aprutina and the routes leading up to Forca di Penne and the Aquilano area. From the 11th and 12th centuries, it became the seat of the lords of the Norman, Swabian, and Angevin fiefdom of Cepagatti, before passing to the Valignano family in the 15th century and finally to the current owners. The first archaeological investigations by the Superintendency date back to the 1970s, and continued between 1998 and 2011 in Piazza San Rocco, bringing to light important Roman-era artefacts preserved in the City Council Chamber. The restoration of the Castle has returned to the public the so-called "Sala delle Cisterne," a rare and authentic Roman-era cistern measuring 22 meters long and 4 meters wide, as well as the 340-square-meter "Sala del Grano," located on the top floor of the monument, with a panoramic view of the Pescara Valley. The restoration of the Marcantonio Castle, begun in 2008, represents a "place in history," and the over 2,000 square meters spread over four levels offer the possibility of hosting particularly evocative events. Unfortunately, it is now in decline due to problems with the owners and is closed. What a shame... It is closed and abandoned. We hope the municipality of Cepagatti buys it back.

At Taverna, you'll find excellence: from the seafood cuisine to the selection of wines and grappas, with recommendations from the legendary sommelier, from the desserts to the service. Here, the customer is king. All in the heart of the historic center, with 5-star service. If you don't have a snake in your pocket, your palate will thank you.

24/02/2026: We ate well despite the long waits. What we absolutely didn't like was the service, specifically the blonde lady with glasses who paid little attention to us and repeatedly gave priority to those who arrived after us. We left feeling very annoyed.

07/03/2026: Last night, after checking into the dreadful hotel, we were more than compensated here. For starters, we had four different antipasto caldi: tuna, baby octopus, a culinary magic dish (very tasty, though I didn't quite understand what it was), and mezze aubergine. Then we had one maltagliati al sugo di... and one arrosto misto, a mixed fish and roast platter. The staff provided excellent service, and the Swiss owner even stopped by. The view of the Adriatic Sea was rather disappointing due to the darkness.

04/03/2026: What can I say? A restaurant with a sea view, delicious and plentiful first courses, and second courses as pictured, exceptional in freshness and cooking, fast service, and extremely friendly staff. Highly recommended!!!

12/01/2026: The aesthetics and harmony with the exterior are stunning...I'll tell you more about the excellent quality later because I'll be returning soon and I don't have any photos or details yet...I can only say "sea food"!!! Opening scheduled for March.

23/10/2025: The host, Fabio, offers our tour guests an amazing menu of fresh seafood or lamb, or vegetarian options if desired. Outside the window is a beautiful view of the Adriatic Sea. This is our go-to group lunch spot for our visits to Ortona on our WWII battlefield tours.

27/02/2026: Let's get some takeout, reasonably priced and average quality. Seafood salad with, damn, surimi peeking out. Mackerel with roasted peppers, not bad. Very fresh and excellent oysters. Acceptable gratinated mussels and stuffed calamari, all in all good. Nice atmosphere, although I would have appreciated a few more smiles and, perhaps, a few hats on the heads of the kitchen staff visible from the counter. Repeat the test, perhaps eating at the restaurant... other users' photos are definitely more attractive.

25/02/2026: The waiter Angelo was very kind and polite. He made everything very pleasant and the food was delicious.

08/03/2026: This place has been re-opened after many years; it used to have a different name. It's remained the same, with convenient set menus at various prices. The only thing they need is better ventilation; you leave smelling like fish cooked on a dishcloth.

07/03/2026: Highly recommended for appreciating the local culinary culture! Relaxed atmosphere, professional and friendly staff, excellent fresh seafood, carefully prepared yet generous dishes (we tried the clams and fish soup, an Abruzzo specialty), and excellent value. You can definitely taste the chef is a fisherman!

05/02/2026: We had dinner at this restaurant on our way back from a three-day mountain trip. I really have to compliment the food, the atmosphere, and the staff. They were very kind and friendly without being too intrusive. Congratulations.

25/01/2026: My girlfriend and I had a great dinner at Ristorante L’Ancona. The food, all fish dishes, was authentic, perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. We ate four courses, but also had a few surprising appetizers in between, which gave the dinner just that little extra. The service of both gentleman was excellent. Gianpaulo knows his wines and made our staying very enjoyable. After dinner we chatted for a bit at the bar and he told us that the family restaurant now was led by him and his brothers. We will definitely come back and would love to visit their country house Molikè sometime. Grazie per la vostra ospitalità, arrivederci alla prossima!
