03/08/2024: Not much to add regarding food, this is really a beautiful experience. The insalata 51 is absolutely necessary (and NOT to be split!) -- it's a journey in itself. We also added the beef tartare with black truffle shavings; skip this, I didn't think it was worth the 50€ (and not as clearly about the truffle compared to other dishes we've had elsewhere). As with any tasting, there were standouts and less mindblowing dishes in the "seasonal things" menu, but Enrico Crippa's vision comes through clearly in all of them, representing the pinnacle of representing each flavor and ingredient (especially vegetables from the garden!). It's expensive and one has to go in knowing that this kind of meal is an expression of the chef's philosophy, not just a way to satisfyingly fill your stomach. On the service side, really wonderful and attentive from all -- the (young!) sommelier even provided a sort of faux pairing of a handful of very nice and local wines, which added about 120€ to the check (very reasonable compared to the "grand tasting"). My wife also appreciated the nonalcoholic options (a really delicious and surprisingly subtle kombucha as well as a "hyperlow" gin and tonic). The only minor note regarding service is that breadcrumbs were only swept once (rather late as well) and the water pouring was aggressive (splashes on to the table). Things that don't matter anywhere except a three-star restaurant! Pacing of the food -- perhaps a little on the slow side (our meal lasted about 4 hours), but at the very least our hosts visited in between quite naturally, somewhat alleviating the lull between dishes. The room we were in (three tables upstairs) felt a little sterile despite some wonderful tapestries by an American-Ukrainian artist. No music here, which was certainly a little awkward at first, but as the meals started and the choreography of the service time kicked in, the feeling dissipated. Just enjoy the food and talk to the team! We appreciated very much the opportunity to meet the chef and take a photo, and also a surprise gift (subtly presented without fanfare at the end, we think for our special occasion). Our total was about 1000€, in fact lower than I expected since I let the sommelier choose the wines. Worth it if you find these kinds of experiences meaningful in the same way other hobbyists do. Perhaps not for the first-timer.

09/09/2024: Heerlijk gegeten, authentiek eten, mooie locatie en heerlijke wijn. Mensen van de bediening verstaan hun vak! Goede olijfolie van een locale boer en de wijn kwam uit de wijngaard enkele meters verderop. Wij wilden persé een locale wijn drinken, wij werden verrast!! We hebben genoten.

21/12/2024: Given that I am the head of security for a royal family, and given that our objective was to bring a delegation of 6 people to dinner; I am going to explain the following; which is ridiculous, surprisingly mediocre and typically Italian: For 4 days in a row we try to get in touch with the structure (which does not offer the possibility of telephone reservations) and we are redirected to the site where it is specified that if there are more than 4 of us (you must take the same menu) and here, it already makes me smile.... The problem of the execution of the dishes and their complexity cannot be something that falls on the guest, who is the one who pays and who should have the freedom to choose the path he deems most appropriate. A deposit of 200 euros per person is required for the no show (and that's fine) or rather it would be fine if you could have a dialogue with an operator capable of answering questions such as the dress code, the menu and its alternatives, and above all service needs (as in our case) for technical tables, remediation inspections etc. But not having this possibility we decide to continue the search for a contact and on 11-20-2024 we try to force the system and get in touch with the hotel and at 4.10 pm a lady finally answers us. The lady has a pedantic tone, she is keen to point out to us that there is nothing strange in the fact that we cannot speak to an operator, and although we explain the delicacy of the situation, she continues to reiterate that it is all on the site and we WE MUST READ…. But are you so sure that a guest-customer who pays for the level of a 3 star is required to waste 2 hours to read the clauses and details of your entire site? Finally, the question of the dress code reaches the height of ridiculousness: The lady always with the same arrogant and fake noble air... specifies that you cannot go with jeans or sneakers and points out that it is an elegant place, with reference to the fact that there would be no problem for women given that the place is frequented only by super elegant women… So dear lady, We thank you because thanks to your precious information you have made us aware and put us in a position to be certain that your commercial offer is not of our interest, think that the gentlemen in question come from a country on the Arabian peninsula where he is a gentleman (he is not an elegantly dressed penguin), that is usually clothing reserved for workers (from managers to drivers to waiters), a gentleman is someone who knows how to be in the world and elegance lies in manners not in a dress (specified that since it was December no one would have come in flip flops or shorts) But if it always allows for reflection given that it is the customer who pays, as well as being free to decide what to eat, he should also be free to dress as he sees fit (respecting decorum and decency) and of course for a structure that "should" be of prestige. As an Italian I am ashamed of our inability to manage and welcome those who come with the intent of discovering and tasting

15/12/2024: I would like to say thank you because of the food and services that we were given . BUT from other side in my heart i’m very disappointed and sad … tonight was a special night that my fiancé organized in order to propose me … he asked the stuff to take a video of the moment but they refused that by saying it’s not possible to take a video ! he proposed me anyhow but he explained me later the story and that feels so sad that he was not able to register that beautifule moment of our life . he chose this restaurant to make the night special (and actually it was for me ), but the fact that they did not let us to register this unique moment of our life will always remain with us . I would like to mention that 10 min before with the permission of the waitress I took a video of her while serving a drink so i can conclude that it was allowed to take video ! I’m just deeply sad in my heart why for us it was not possible… tonight will never ever repeat again …
12/12/2024: The tasting menu is a sensorial journey in which flavors are expertly combined. The dishes, impeccable from an aesthetic point of view, reveal delicate and familiar tastes, in perfect balance with the refined wines. The chef is present and very helpful, in synergy with the formal but welcoming staff.

03/09/2024: On a warm summer evening we ate outside the restaurant, with a glimpse of the lake. Good food, well presented, and the waitress was very kind even though she had a lot to do and was alone. Careful and attentive service. Worth a stop.
29/08/2024: We were in Il Portale in June and are still talking about this restaurant, so it’s about time to write a review. We totally loved it here, cosy restaurant with a view of the lake, delicious food en very friendly service. The lady who served us spoke very well English en explained all the local specialties on the menu. She had a lot of knowledge about her products and you could see she was very proud of them. We loved the slow cooked egg with the local mountain cheese, the risotto with ossobuco and the home made bread of long fermentation with the delicious olive oil from Sicily! @Restorante Il Portale: We would be very happy if you could share with us the name of that olive oil , since we have been thinking about it ever since. Thank you 🙏!

04/12/2024: Il sostantivo perfetto per racchiudere tutta la filosofia dell'ostu, ma anche spensieratezza, o localismo. Il vino solo in magnum, che girano tra i tavoli, un classico del locale. Poi il servizio cortese e sempre con la battuta pronta (peccato che il 50% degli ospiti parlano inglese mentre il livello d'inglese in sala è -1....i turisti si perdono gran parte dell'esperienza...) Dopo anni penso che il cibo sia caduto in termini di qualità, o magari tempo fa m'impressionavo più facilmente: i primi sono la parte peggiore (risotto tipo mac & cheese americano, impresentabile, meglio i tajarin ma troppo poco conditi), gli antipasti altalenanti tra una buona albese e dei passaggi più banali, i secondi il must, tra animelle cotte alla perfezione e lumache gustose, degni di un bistrot parigino! Il tutto spezzato dall'immancabile cucchiaio di gorgonzola e il torrone da spaccare a forza di cazzotti ;-) Conto forse un filo alto per il livello del cibo ma giusto in rapporto all'esperienza, comunque da provare una volta nella vita; in tavolata con gli amici, ma anche per sdrammatizzare una tavolata di lavoro.
21/11/2024: Super gezellige zaak waar je werkelijk wordt ondergedompeld in gastvrijheid. Geen menukaart en geen wijnkaart ,maar totaal geen gemis. De zaak bepaald wat je eet en drinkt. En de gerechtjes waren allemaal heerlijk o.a. pasta met - ruim - truffel en als klapstuk een grote blok nougat dat aan tafel in stukken werd gehakt...hilarisch. Wijnen worden in magnum flessen op tafel gezet en constant aangevuld. Prima restaurant met een fantastische sfeer !

04/12/2024: Finalmente un ristorante che esprime e valorizza la Sua storia nella ricerca della materia prima eccellente e nella qualità delle preparazioni. L’ambiente è personale e racconta la vita e il percorso di questa famiglia. I meravigliosi salumi del territorio sono affettati al momento con tre Berkel d’epoca e sono amorevolmente raccontati, perfetti nelle stagionature e nel taglio. La cucina esprime tutte le sfumature variegate di questa zona dal pesce di fiume, rane, lumache, anatre , oche .. in decine di ricette che sembra di ritrovare la solida qualità del passato e ben venga. Il carrello dei formaggi è uno dei più belli e intelligenti che possiate trovare con stagionature che rasentano la perfezione. Una carta dei vini con cinquecento etichette offre solo le maison migliori, ad ogni livello. Dolci ottimi, servizio cordiale e impeccabile.. Il tempo si è fermato qui , per fortuna.. Chapeau
