08/03/2026: I've had a good experience at this place in the past, but after tonight's experience, I have to change my review. I booked a table for seven people with The Fork at 7:00 PM and received confirmation from them. I was then confronted with a full restaurant where they hadn't saved a table for us, and we had to go elsewhere. It was simply unthinkable, and on top of that, they informed The Fork that we hadn't shown up, as shown in the attached screenshot.
08/03/2026: Yesterday we made a reservation for seven people at 7:00 PM. We also received the reservation confirmation by email, but when we arrived at the restaurant, they didn't reserve a table for us! We had to leave. My 4-year-old son was also with us, and he was hungry, so we had to go find another place. This morning, we found out that the restaurant had marked us on The Fork as a no-show. AWFUL!

15/12/2025: A truly 5-star hotel that lives up to its reputation!
For a visit to the Lake Maggiore, Lake Varese, and Lake Como area, this is a really good hotel. The location is very quiet, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The adjacent park is perfect for a stroll and is lined with beautiful old trees. The rooms are equipped with everything you need, are very clean, and spacious.
The breakfast was excellent. There was everything from coffee and tea to cakes, croissants, yogurt, fruit, vegetables, ham, and cheese... the ham was particularly delicious!
There was also ample parking in front of the hotel and in the villa's courtyard.
This hotel made our stay in the region truly exceptional.

our table was just a few meters from the clear waters of Lake Monate. It might not be for everyone's budget, but the seafood sauté was excellent and plentiful, an unforgettable lunch.

11/10/2025: It's like going to lunch at an aunt's house; you eat on the veranda, right in the owners' home. A true agriturismo, simple as it should be. Excellent pumpkin and gorgonzola risotto, and the savory pie and desserts are also excellent. The appetizer was meager, and the price was perhaps a bit high for what we ate. However, we had a great time, especially with the kids.

02/11/2025: The comment about the mushroom tart, which I read, was misplaced: it was good and as described, beautifully presented. On the other hand, the snobbish use of English terms to describe customer service, which was certainly not lacking, speaks volumes about the person who commented. The meat was very good, and the wine was up to par. The only flaw was the very noisy place, with moments of annoyance: there were a lot of children, but the noise came from the adults (think about it!), and the wait for the dishes was a bit long.
27/10/2025: The food is excellent and the service is friendly.
The place is even prettier after the latest renovation!
The idea of a birthday party at Balabiott with their traditional camparino was also great.
Fantastic place and highly recommended!!!!

09/03/2026: We had pizza, which I must say was good. The service was quick, and the staff were very kind and attentive. The only flaw, if you can call it that, was the music being too loud for the number of people there, which were already making quite a racket.
06/03/2026: Spacious restaurant that seems popular among the locals. Was crowded even on weekday. Reservation recommended for larger groups. Big portions for a relatively smaller price. Pizzas and desserts were excellent. A good fine dining experience.

And everything was more than good
We had appetizers, first courses, and second courses
Then dessert
And despite the abundance, we had a great time
The food was delicate and light
It wasn't the usual spicy and oily one
It was well-proportioned
The wait wasn't long
But we went at 9:30 PM
The place was full, and luckily they had eaten almost everything, so the wait wasn't long either
And the dessert was profiteroles 🔝

21/02/2026: A good seafood restaurant, but the exterior needs improvement. I recommend expanding the meat menu. The staff is friendly and efficient.

25/02/2026: The location is old and in need of a complete overhaul. The risotto, considered the house specialty, is decidedly too salty. But it's considered "normal because it contains speck."
Given the above, the prices are unnecessarily above the local average.
I don't think I'll return.
10/02/2026: The food was great.
We're going to have dinner at Smaralda for my birthday in March with about 10 people. We're excited to see what the food is like and what the prices are like. Looking forward to it!

20/01/2026: I'll start by saying that I visited at the end of the season and during "not-full" hours.
An elegant restaurant with various service options.
It also has a shaded outdoor seating area, ideal for the warmer months.
The food is good and the service is excellent.
The parking lot is adjacent to the restaurant and overlooks the waterfall.
The waterfall offers visual spectacles that are clearly attractive and perhaps drive up the prices a bit.
15/01/2026: The atmosphere is pleasant and well-maintained. In the summer, it's definitely nice to sit outside. The food is excellent. We had fried fish and ossobuco with risotto. The fried fish is spectacular: the fish is incredibly fresh, so the flavor is a feast for the palate. The breading is invisible, so the flavor of the calamari and cuttlefish remains clean and light.
The ossobuco meat is incredibly tender and flavorful.
The staff is kind and welcoming.
The prices are high; the cover charge is €3 per person. The strudel costs €8. Ossobuco and fried fish are €21.50 each, but let's be honest: Prices have gone up everywhere, and the quality hasn't always matched the price, so this restaurant deserves our compliments.
