23/08/2025: I visited this restaurant for lunch. I enjoyed the first course, linguine with sea urchins, which was excellently cooked. As for the sardines a beccafico and the swordfish rolls, I wasn't thrilled at all. The service is that of a mid-range trattoria or rotisserie, with exorbitantly high prices. The breadsticks served in a bread basket were clearly stale, and the fried food presented as an entree was nothing special. The atmosphere was not bad, but the music was unsettling and inappropriate. I wonder if the service is different in the evening, without the The Fork discount, because it seems like lunch is handled a bit on a shoestring.

07/09/2025: I'm giving it one star not because I ate there. But because they confirmed my reservation for a table; it was my mother's birthday. And when we arrived, the restaurant was closed because it was their weekly closing day. Can you be so stupid as to book a reservation on a closing day?

05/09/2025: Simply fantastic! A first-class restaurant, with a beautiful interior ambiance and a magnificent terrace on the cathedral square. The food was excellent, and the wine list was very well-chosen! The crockery, cutlery, and glasses were all carefully selected. The service was warm, unobtrusive, and very well-trained. We had the 6-course surprise menu; each course was delicious, and you could really taste the ingredients. The only criticism we could find was that there were two sweet desserts, but we're in southern Italy and know that sweet things play a big role here! We would definitely come back! Thank you so much! 16/08/2025: Exceptional restaurant! Osteria Ballaro is definitely worth a visit when in Palermo. I started with the Ballaro Street Food as a starter, followed by the linguine allo zafferano con sarde, a sublime dish that perfectly showcases the Sicilian flavors. The tiramisu was the icing on the cake. A special mention goes to Giovanni, our server, who was fantastic! Not only does he know the menu perfectly and offer valuable advice, but he also gave us excellent tips for exploring the city. A true, passionate professional. The setting is very pleasant: the air-conditioned and bright dining room makes the experience even more enjoyable.

04/06/2025: We had such a lovely experience here. The chef and his wife are people who personify excellence while being totally warm and gracious -- you will want to hang out with them. The ambiance is charming; quirky in all the best ways. The meal is impeccable from start to finis (especially the opening appetizer tray & the wonderful breads): the only problem is that there is so much food, we were too full to make much of a dent in a gorgeous seafood en croute. It is also very good value for the quality. I regret that we live in San Francisco and cannot become regulars. I would have liked to review in Michelin for the star they so deserve, but there is no option for diner feedback as of yet.

28/05/2025: Premetto che siamo di Genova in vacanza per un fine settimana allungato ed abbiamo scelto di dormire a Montallegro solo per mangiare in questo ristorante. Si tratta di un Ristorante con la “R” maiuscola. Abbiamo avuto la fortuna di conoscere tutta la famiglia e ci siamo trovati come se fossimo dei clienti abitudinari quasi amici. Durante tutta la piacevole serata abbiamo fatto un percorso meraviglioso con un menù degustazione eccellente. Complimenti veramente ad Adriana per la maestria con la quale ci ha raccontato i piatti e complementi allo Chef Damiano per le idee applicate nei piatti. Che dire peccato solo che siamo lontani se no avremmo avuto modo di tornare presto. Grazie della bella serata e grazie per il vostro lavoro.

20/07/2025: Disappointing lunch: oily appetizers, bland and cold first courses, okay second courses, and a dessert that tasted like nothing. Overpriced for the quality of the food. However, the staff was prompt and courteous. The restaurant lacks adequate air conditioning for the number of tables.

27/07/2025: I'd call it a simple, unpretentious place. I felt like I was eating at a grandmother's house. Perhaps, given the type of place, I would have preferred slightly larger portions and a slightly lower price for the main courses. Among the dishes I tried, I recommend the caponata.

21/08/2025: We stood out like sore thumbs as asians, but the waiter was patient and even offered to help us split our dishes to 2 shared portions without extra costs. Food was great and atmosphere was fancy, but I would have definitely love to come here with a local.

21/08/2025: A lovely place nestled between Tiber Island and Trastevere. It's a shame that, like almost everything in the city center these days, it's a place exclusively for tourists who like to splurge. Although the dishes are good, the price/quantity ratio is inversely proportional, so much so that the main courses cost the same as the first courses and almost the same as the appetizers. About €20 for less than 80g of pasta and 3 shrimp... OK if you're from Massachusetts, but my mistake, living here, I tried to trust a place "in the city center."

24/06/2025: We had dinner here and were fully satisfied. Excellent quality of products. It is possible to taste the specialties of the Palazzo Acreide area with a touch of professionalism and care of the product that enhances it even more. I absolutely recommend stopping here for a beautiful dinner. The location is also really beautiful and well-kept. We had dinner on an intimate terrace and in the cool of a June evening.

27/07/2025: Finalmente un buon ristorante di pesce a prezzi onesti! La cucina è di stampo siciliano; ho provato e apprezzato sia gli involtini di pesce spada che la caponatina. Ambiente semplice e ordinato, servizio gentile ma un po' lento.

28/08/2025: AMAZING! A charming place in the center of town, small (reservations recommended), but lively and authentic. The quality of the food was excellent: we had the owner prepare a tasting of typical Sicilian appetizers with tripe, stew, and roulade, and it was all delicious, clean, and not hard to digest. The ingredients tasted carefully selected and treated with care. The house wine and local liqueurs were also delicious and refined. If the opportunity arises, this will definitely be a regular stop. Special mention to the owner: he's kind, friendly, and approachable, and if he finds the right company, he's charming and fun. Don't be afraid to chat with him; you might learn things you didn't even know! 100% recommended!
