20/08/2025: We tried it just last night, so it was a Tuesday evening in the second half of August. We found quality, availability, and above all courtesy, both in the service and the welcome, but especially in the food we ate. Let's take it in order: there were five of us, three of whom were children. It was also one of our three's birthdays :D We discovered that all the fried foods and desserts are gluten-free, while the rest are available both gluten-free and gluten-free. This in itself is a plus, especially for those like me who are looking for gluten-free-friendly places. The chef is very knowledgeable and attentive, as is all the staff. She's not a certified gluten-free expert, but honestly, that doesn't matter because you can be a certified gluten-free expert and not do one of the things they "teach" or "explain" to you... but back to us. We ordered suppli and a pizza for one with two waters, a reasonable price, but above all, we left feeling full, not stuffed, and having eaten divinely. If I really had to add a comment, the suppli, or rather the rice, were a bit overcooked, but the exceptional breading more than made up for it. The pizzas were truly divine, starting with the birthday boy's red one, moving on to the mozzarella, bresaola, and parmesan shavings focaccia (without arugula because he asked not to add it), and the Margherita (which the two girls shared), all strictly gluten-free, right up to the eggplant and classic crostini (these with gluten). Another plus: they were served in slices for the kids, except for the focaccia, which, rightfully, would have been destroyed. What else can I say? There's no extra charge for gluten-free, which is much appreciated... They also have several lactose-free desserts (unfortunately, not all of them), but above all, the chef updates her pizzas based on her customers' opinions, such as not using gluten-containing flours (which is much appreciated). Just to be fair, they only use gluten-free starch (this is always true for pizzas). What else can I say? Definitely worth returning. For those who come, it's not easy to find a table, but there are plenty nearby, and the hassle of finding a table will be worth it for the delicious food.

23/07/2025: Smiling and very friendly waitress. Large portion, very large!! Option to take away unfinished pizzas. The only downside for our group was the tiramisu, which was too sweet. I'm a sweet tooth, though! Definitely coming back. I recommend this restaurant without hesitation. Thank you.

10/09/2025: Java (not sure that's the right spelling) best waiter we have had in Rome. We did not have a reservation, so we were seated at the bar. We watched the kitchen staff work so hard. The food was phenomenal!! And the whole atmosphere was amazing!! 10/10 would highly recommend.

30/08/2025: Everything was truly excellent, the cuisine was amazing and above all the friendliness of the owner who pampers you in every detail with their delicacies, true Roman cuisine. The anchovy tart was truly excellent and the cod was beyond delicacy with its chickpea cream. I would say that when I return to Rome I will definitely come back to visit them.

05/09/2025: Aesthetically pleasing and original, the menu is well-described and captivating, but unfortunately the execution is a different story. Grilled salad served as if it were found in a garbage can, fried corn left alone on a sad plate, salty wheels with pecorino cheese (a shame because the pasta was really good), pork belly drowned in soy sauce and with chunks of cucumber that looked like they were taken from a supermarket salad. The pseudo-organic wine (the label said "low sulfites") tasted like fur. This would already be enough for a poor rating, but if you add the long wait times and the lack of a wine list with prices, the rating becomes seriously poor. I recommend cooking well when you write the menu.

12/09/2025: Quality is declining, rudeness is rising! I commend the very young waitress who caused the restaurant to lose four customers last night (+2 from the next table who stood up and said "never again!")! It used to be a good restaurant...now avoid it.

09/08/2025: Rustic atmosphere, reminiscent of an old-fashioned trattoria, the likes of which are unfortunately rare these days. A wide variety of Roman and Lazio cuisine is served, enhanced with exquisite ingredients like porcini mushrooms and truffles. Outdoor seating is available in the summer on Grottaferrata's main street. Affordable prices; reservations recommended.

19/08/2025: A beautiful, quiet place with seafood dishes that were absolutely delicious. Upon entering, you could see that the fish and seafood were all fresh that day. I recommend the swordfish 👌👌

18/08/2025: There were four of us and we were welcomed as if we were at home. The quality/price ratio was excellent, you spend the right amount, and you eat well. On the recommendation of the chef, who gave us good advice, it was worth it. The cuisine was truly excellent, gourmet dishes prepared with great care and attention, and prepared with great refinement using only the finest ingredients. The appetizers were excellent, the first and second courses were also good, and the desserts were excellent, perfect for enjoying with friends. The wait was a bit long, but the experience was unique and unforgettable. Definitely worth a try.

13/09/2025: We had dinner for 9, 6 adults and 3 children, having booked in the late afternoon. Four bottles of water, one bottle of Coke, two beers, six supplì, two croquettes, one portion of Ascoli olives, one zucchini flower, two baby pizzas, one carbonara, one sliced ​​steak with parmesan and cherry tomatoes, four pizzas, one pasta with tomato sauce, three desserts, two strawberries, one coffee, and one liqueur. There was very little wait, and it cost about €60 per couple. We'll definitely be back. Great atmosphere, good service, but parking was very difficult.

05/08/2025: Aspettative deluse per questo locale, che - sebbene di aspetto assai curato - offre cibo da osteria (con tutto rispetto) a prezzi da stellato (o quasi). La carta dei vini (unica nota distintiva) arriva su richiesta dopo l'ordinazione e il vino viene versato direttamente senza nemmeno farlo assaggiare... Personale distratto e composizione dei piatti da rivedere: nel complesso non lo consiglierei.

23/07/2025: Cenare da Mario significa immergersi nell'essenza della cucina capitolina, perché questo ritorante offre un'esperienza che va ben oltre il semplice pasto. Ogni consiglio del personale è prezioso, ogni spiegazione rivela l'amore per gli ingredienti selezionati e le ricette tramandate. Il ritmo del servizio segue quello naturale della convivialità italiana: mai affrettato, sempre attento. I piatti sono eccellenti ed anche i contorni, spesso trascurati altrove, qui brillano di luce propria. Il conto finale sorprende positivamente: prezzi onesti per una qualità che supera le aspettative. Da Mario non si va solo per mangiare, ma per vivere Roma attraverso i suoi sapori più autentici. Un'esperienza da ripetere assolutamente.

22/07/2025: Un ristorante speciale, datato con cucina di una volta. Che altro dire, se vuoi mangiare la vera cucina romana sei nel posto giusto.. Camerieri preparati ed educati, cucina di casa con sapori e prezzi onestissimi Carta dei vini fantastica, prezzi più che ragionevoli e scelta tra quasi 200 etichette Torneremo sicuramente Piatti romani, carne tartufo e funghi di livello altissimo Grazie per l ESPERIENZA

24/06/2025: A place that knows how to welcome, not just serve. La Taverna della Scala is one of those places where you gladly return, because it leaves you with something more than just good food. Warm environment, with attention to detail, with a quiet and no-frills atmosphere. The staff is kind, attentive, present at the right time. The cuisine is the real strong point: traditional dishes, well executed, with clear flavors and quality ingredients. You can feel that there is passion behind every course. The recommended wine was perfect to accompany dinner. Fair prices, generous portions, punctual service. A restaurant where you eat well and feel at home. Highly recommended for those looking for authenticity and taste.

16/06/2025: Tucked away on a charming cobblestone street in the heart of Trastevere, Tonnarello Scala offers the kind of dining experience that makes you fall in love with Rome all over again. I stopped by for a solo lunch and ordered the meatballs with oxtail sauce, paired with a glass of the house white (Bianca)—and I’m still thinking about it. The meatballs were rich, hearty, and absolutely bursting with flavor. The oxtail sauce was a revelation—deep, savory, and full of character, like it had been slow-cooked with love for hours. Accompanied by perfectly roasted potatoes and sautéed greens, the plate was rustic Roman cuisine at its finest. The crispy flatbread served on the side added a perfect crunch and was ideal for scooping up every last bit of sauce. The house white wine was crisp, well-balanced, and a perfect companion to the dish—refreshing without overpowering the flavors. The setting? Pure magic. Sitting al fresco, watching the world go by on a historic Roman street, with the soft echo of laughter and conversation around you—it’s what dining in Italy should feel like. Attentive service, generous portions, and that uniquely Roman charm make Tonnarello Scala a must-visit. Whether you’re here for a quick lunch or a long evening meal, it’s the kind of place that wraps you in warmth and flavor. I’ll absolutely be back.

29/08/2025: We had a great meal there; this restaurant was recommended to us by an Italian woman who knows the place. We had pasta (the medium portion is already difficult to finish) and a tiramisu: we enjoyed it! P.S.: Some say the carbo pasta is too salty; having eaten several in Rome, they're no saltier than the others.

27/08/2025: As a person I usually only post reviews for places that I think deserve it and this place is the best place I’ve eaten outside of my country and even if I compared it to the restaurants at home it would be in the top 3 maybe even higher, the attention was excellent the only place where the people serving spoke Spanish and English and talking to the servers you could the joy of working in a restaurant. To finalize I would like to use the words that the son of the owner told me When you enter this restaurant you do it as a client when you return you do it as a friend
