29/05/2025: Found this place by chance on the web. We had dinner here a few weeks ago and were very satisfied. Great food, excellent quality, larger portions than usual. Price appropriate for what we ate. Limited parking, few places compared to the capacity of the place (but maybe I'm wrong and I didn't realize if you could park elsewhere, ask for info when you book). Absolutely recommended.

29/05/2025: If you happen to be in Valmontone around lunchtime, don't miss out on stopping at Trattoria Elena. I've been there a couple of times, with a local colleague, who brought me here specifically to try the traditional dishes. The place is simple, a classic trattoria on the hill, but if you find the right day, having lunch outside under the portico is one of those things that is priceless. If you decide to come here, I can tell you that both times I focused on the first courses, and I was very satisfied. The carbonara is one of the best dishes they cook. The simplicity of the place, with the friendliness of the staff, make you feel welcomed like at home. Highly recommended!

25/05/2025: EXCELLENT Roman osteria, EXCELLENT food, EXCELLENT service, Very clean and welcoming environment although unfortunately not very large therefore I strongly recommend booking. I conclude with another EXCELLENT in reference to the bill. If you want to eat well you can't not take it into consideration, you can find it in the San Giovanni area.

The waiter clearly struggled to understand the order and tried to convince me that potatoes counted as ‘grilled vegetables,’ which felt like a misunderstanding at best and a lack of training at worst. It’s a shame, because the menu and the wine-by-the-glass selection were promising. However, the overall experience felt careless and unpolished, especially considering the price. In summary: a wasted opportunity and a disappointing experience.”

14/06/2025: Great place to spend a good lunch or a good dinner, the food and hospitality are top notch, the only flaw is that unfortunately the restaurant is not equipped with air conditioning and if it is a relatively hot day it could become unpleasant, for the rest nothing to say we had a great time and it also has a very large parking lot available..

26/05/2025: I note other excellent reviews but sadly cannot agree. La Matriciana looks great and the service has an old fashioned grace but the food was truly disappointing. My starter of fried egg with shavings of black truffle, ordered as a treat to myself was a perfectly decent egg but the generous amount of truffle was dry and virtually without scent or flavour. Euro 20 is a lot to pay for a fried egg .. One friend had over-cooked scallops whilst the other left half her soup since it had so little flavour and was not worth the effort. As my main course I opted for oxtail in a tomato sauce. The sauce was really good but only one of the chunks of tail was edible. The rest was so tough I couldn't eat it. My friend did complain about her risotto con gamberi e crema. This again was a flavourless concoction topped with the dry skeleton of a gambero. The waiter graciously replaced it with a spaghetti dish which tasted ok (hard to go wrong with a lot of parmesan), but was SO al dente as to be truly unpleasant. We had high hopes of this traditional looking restaurant and felt really sorry for the very professional waiters having to serve what turned out to be very poor, overpriced food. The food in Italy has been otherwise excellent this trip, and we are reasonable cooks who are not unknowledgeable or overly critical and really do not ike to complain, but this was a very bad meal for all three of us it became plain that very few, if any, Italians were dining there....

09/06/2025: It was the least pleasant experience of my trip to Italy, hands down. This restaurant seems tailor-made for locals — and that’s fine, if you know that in advance. The waiter who served us spoke almost no English (which is fine), but more importantly, he was visibly annoyed that we didn’t speak Italian. We weren’t even taking too long to order, but he was obviously annoyed just by being there. With the Italians, however, it was all smiles and chit-chat. I guess he doesn’t need a tip — he must be wealthy enough, given his complete indifference to the service. Like other reviewers, I’m just sharing my personal experience. The food was good, and the rest of the staff was friendly and smiley. I know the restaurant will respond to defend the staff — especially the waiter in question — as they have in other reviews. But at some point, you have to listen to your customers, not just respond for the sake of formality. What I wrote is not a “cultural misunderstanding”, but a real experience lived by more than one customer. Ignoring these signals is not respect for your staff, it is disrespect for those who choose to come here. Having said that, I must recognize that the food is really authentic and tasty, and the other staff members were courteous and smiling. The general atmosphere is pleasant and deserves appreciation. I hope that the restaurant can take this feedback seriously and improve the service, so that more and more visitors can feel the true Italian warmth.

02/06/2025: My husband and I entered while we were heading to the Chiostro del Bramante, we saw this place very popular with tourists and regulars and we went in for a quick brunch that wouldn't weigh us down, given the heat and our interest in hurrying through the museum visit. Immediate courtesy, which diminished when the waiter received the order, which seemed poor to him. I had anchovies au gratin with roast potatoes and my husband had salmon with scamorza and a mixed salad, followed by a single portion of pineapple to degrease and a coffee just for my husband, I can't drink it. As soon as my husband ordered the coffee, the waiter joked "always one?" Ah, when he brought us the dishes he almost threw them listlessly on the table without saying anything, the British customers next to us enjoyed left and right, because they had ordered lasagna, spaghetti and various other things that if you'll allow me I prepare at home as the delicatessen orders. The food was good and plentiful, the gentleman at the cash register, perhaps the owner? He was very kind in providing me with a chair to rest the bag that he had inadvertently dropped. I recommend that the staff in the dining room be more careful in treating all customers with kindness because if I come to you I have no problem with spending but only health choices.

14/01/2025: Cozy, typical atmosphere, but above all you eat well, plentifully and cheerfully... you won't get bored during the meal: fun ditties and cantatas with characteristic Roman characters LOADED UP! Excellent day in Ariccia!

10/06/2025: si sente la romanità della cucina ad ogni piatto. A dir poco...da paura!!! Una fraschetteria in cui si sente la romanità ad ogni piatto. La mia prima esperienza in questo locale, ma non credo sarà l'ultima. Ho incominciato con pajata e rigatoni e finito con abbacchio scottadito Piatti super abbondanti per cui regolatevi nell'ordinazioni, se siete di stomaco normali. I prezzi forse un tantino alti e potrebbero essere un pò più bassi se si vuole essere un locale popolano. Nonostante il locale sia grande conviene comunque prenotare!

09/06/2025: Da voi ho sempre mangiato bene, e capisco oppure che una giornata "no" può capitare; ma ieri sera (ndr sabato 7 giugno) a cena è andato tutto "storto": eravamo in due ed era la prima volta che portavo la mia compagna antipasto richiesto max 500 gr. (il formaggio solo due pezzettini) si parlava di circa 900 gr. di antipasto; poi abbiamo chiesto due primi (fettuccine ai funghi (ottime) ed io avevo richiesto espressamente spaghetti al dente alla Grecia, risultato: i primi che abbiamo aspettato per più di mezz'ora dopo la fine dell'antipasto, ma solo le fettuccine ed a me.....il nulla; intanto arrivavano i due contorni (scarola!!!), ho chiesto il perché dei contorni e del primo mancante.....si erano dimenticati dell'altro primo. Lo richiedono i camerieri in cucina intanto l'unico primo arrivato ( a me non piacciono i funghi) lo assaporato dalla mia compagna, dopo circa 15 minuti arriva l'altro primo ......SBAGLIATO LA PASTA: io avevo chiesto i spaghetti alla gricia e mi arrivano i RIGATONI.....a malincuore li ho mangiato ma.....nervosamente Ed una serata tranquilla si è trasformata in un....INCUBO. Per adesso per me è "OUT" ....poi vedremo. Arrivederci

28/05/2025: Un ristorante accogliente che offre una buona varietà di piatti per lo più romani. Piatti buoni e saporiti, con un servizio gentile ed efficiente. Il conto forse un poco alto.

27/05/2025: Welcoming place and friendly staff. Unfortunately the dishes disappointed me a bit: gricia with dried artichokes, hard to chew and therefore not very pleasant to the palate. Too bad because the gricia itself was good. The cheesecake with the sponge cake bottom is not visible.
