Very nice atmosphere, you're practically eating in a cave. The food is decent, more or less tasty depending on the dish.

The Osteria is located in a Sassi, which gives it a very special touch. We had three different pasta dishes, and each one was delicious. Highly recommended and reasonably priced.

A fantastic find, discovered by chance while wandering through the streets of Matera. The food was excellent and the staff very attentive. I highly recommend the "tasting" menu, offered for two people as a starter; it's very typical and very generous. A delightful surprise.

Disappointing experience overall. The atmosphere felt cold and uncomfortable, with little warmth or genuine hospitality from the staff. Service lacked friendliness, and the whole place seemed to miss the joy and care that make Italian dining enjoyable. The food was equally underwhelming, especially the pasta, which was heavy and lacking flavour or refinement. I honestly eat much better Italian food in Sydney. At around €75 for two, it was far too expensive for the quality offered. Unfortunately, not a place we would return to.

We went there on the recommendation of the Rough Guide. Nice setting, the food was good. However, the service was very average, no smiles, and we waited 40 minutes for our appetizers… The prices are too high (the local appetizer of the famous “peperone crusco” or dried peppers is €9! (compared to €5 in many other places that are just as good). In short, it wasn't a favorite for us 🥲

A charming location nestled inside a cave in the Sasso Barisano. Courteous staff. Refined dishes, tastefully presented. Excellent product quality. Fair price. To finish on a high note, I recommend ordering the deconstructed tiramisu: delicious.

Beautiful location in the heart of the Sassi, off the beaten path. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. All the dishes we ordered were delicious, and the quality/price ratio was excellent. Highly recommended.

Trattoria Lucana

05/05/2026: A typical Lucanian trattoria with truly delicious dishes: we thoroughly enjoyed both the homemade soup and the soup with meatballs in tomato sauce, both flavorful and well-prepared. Unfortunately, however, the service wasn't up to par. The lady, presumably the owner, seemed rather haughty, while her daughter, who was taking orders, was even more so. We would have appreciated greater kindness, friendliness, and a modicum of savoir-faire. At various times, she was rude, even towards other customers: for example, with a table of undecided foreigners, she showed impatience, grumbling and huffing, turning away so as not to be noticed. Overall, a mixed experience: good food, but the welcome really makes the difference. Personally, I don't think I'll return, because a good restaurant should also offer empathetic and pleasant service, starting with the managers, who proved less friendly than the very kind waiters.

12/05/2026: It's the ideal place for those seeking intimacy but also good food, featuring traditional dishes with a few innovative twists. Good value and a good selection of wines. Attentive and friendly service.
03/05/2026: Everything was perfect. We ate very well at a reasonable price, and the owners were very friendly. I paid €60 for two. It's best to book a table.
