This restaurant has a rich cultural heritage; it's nearly 100 years old, and the building itself is over 100 years old. That's why it received a cultural award, which is quite unique. The food is Southern Italian cuisine. Local red peppers (I didn't take a picture) are used in the dishes, and they're very fragrant. Please see the photos for food descriptions. Overall, it suited my taste. Personally, I think everything—from the sourdough bread and cheese platter to the raw meat platter—was delicious. If you're ever in this area, I highly recommend trying it. 👍🏻😊

A historic, traditional tavern setting with tasty dishes reflecting Basilicata's culinary tradition. The cafati with ricotta cream and mint is delicious. Highly recommended!

A wonderful, very traditional restaurant with truly authentic Basilicata cuisine. The dishes were superbly prepared, typical of the region, and absolutely delicious. The pepperoni cruschi and the homemade pasta were particularly delightful. The service was also exceptionally friendly and helpful. Despite the high quality, everything was quick and pleasant. I was genuinely surprised that the restaurant wasn't packed, as such an authentic establishment is a rare find these days. Highly recommended!

It feels like walking into a 1900s restaurant; everything is well-maintained and spacious, with huge tables. The owner is very knowledgeable, sociable, and cultured. The dishes are explained in detail and are all delicious. Nothing to complain about; if I ever pass through Potenza again, I'll be back. I highly recommend it.

A unique experience, led by the owner who, in addition to explaining the dishes, also shares the history of the ingredients and the Lucanian region. Handmade pasta, seasonal vegetables from the garden. Everything, from the appetizers to the rosolio, is made with passion and authenticity. Cruschi peppers and yellow eggplant are some simple yet characteristic dishes of Basilicata.

I recommend a stroll through Potenza and a visit to the historic Taverna Oraziana. Here, time has stood still, ensuring the respect for traditional, deliciously Lucanian dishes and the love for the environment, evident in the owner's splendid photos displayed throughout the restaurant. The food, hospitality, and atmosphere are truly superb!

antica cantina forentum

03/05/2026: Amazing food and service, we had the best time
01/05/2026: Forentum Restaurant is one of the best in Basilicata for food. I enjoyed everything, from the homemade bread and taralli to the dessert. The appetizer, however, was a bit small and detracts from the good value for money of the rest of the meal. The only downside is that everyone at the other tables, except us, were offered a welcome plate of bread meatballs on caciocavallo fondue (some also received a glass of sparkling wine). Furthermore, the owner spilled the wine, making the table very wet, but she didn't apologize or even try to clean it up. I had to ask the older waiter to kindly wipe it away. I must say they made up for it with a complimentary lemon curd at the end. Overall, the food was very good, but the service was more biased toward acquaintances than strangers, something I've read in other reviews. Overall, it's a lovely place that's definitely worth a visit. Best of luck with your new place!
