19/02/2026: Cold first course and phantom service. If you're looking for a place where you can pay gourmet prices for cold linguine in an unsanitary environment, this is the place! As soon as we sat down... there were still remnants of the previous diners' meals and an ashtray full of cigarette butts. It's unacceptable that in such a small place, the waiters could be so distracted as to forget everything, even the cutlery, for over a quarter of an hour, letting the serving dish cool before our eyes: we were invisible to the table attendants. The same embarrassing situation for our neighbors, who asked in vain for paper napkins for their daughter! Space is at a premium, tables facing the street are to be avoided; they're crowded, and the smell from the harbor (far from pleasant) makes lunch unpleasant. A real shame because the food is well-cooked, but at this price, service and cleanliness should be a priority, not an optional extra. What left us perplexed was how everything was weighed at once and in such a rush by the chef or cashier (like standing in line at the supermarket) without even giving you the slightest bit of time to choose what you wanted; the octopus, shrimp, calamari, oxeye, mussels, and sea urchins were all weighed at once, a shame the weight paid didn't correspond to the quantity on the plate. Reading about the impeccable service in the reviews of this place, even though the waiters were completely inefficient, made us realize how valuable friendships can be...

18/01/2026: Everything was delicious, truly exceeding expectations. The smash burger is simply incredible, one of the best I've ever had, perfect meat and perfect balance. The service was impeccable, attentive, and fast. Andrea and his team are super friendly and professional, they manage to make you feel right at home without compromising on quality. A place you'll want to return to, often.

28/02/2026: I stayed in Syracuse for a week, in a hotel very close to the Viola caffe. I went to Viola for breakfast three times and everything was wonderful, excellent. But on the fourth time I went for breakfast at Viola, I had an experience that needs to be reported. It was rude and even comical. It was on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, around 9:30 am. My wife and I arrived for another breakfast at Viola and we ordered a cappuccino, an Americano, and two chocolate cones to go. There was a very friendly attendant at the register and another blonde woman making the coffees. The blonde woman preparing the coffees was completely agitated, loudly calling the attention of the one at the register. When that blonde woman from the cafe handed me the two coffees I ordered, they were in two sealed cups, since they were to go, and I asked which one was the Cappuccino and which one was the Americano, because the cups had their lids closed and I couldn't see. This blonde girl started saying loudly that the cappuccino was with milk and the Americano was without milk, asking if I didn't know the difference. I quickly thought of two possible responses, because I don't usually listen to insults and stay silent: 1) I thought about asking her if she thought I was Superman and had X-ray vision, since the cups were closed. 2) I thought about saying a good "Vaffanculo" to her in good Italian, but since I was on vacation and relaxed, I thought it best not to do that. But she really deserved a "Vaccanculo Stronza”. Anyway, I just smiled politely and left Café Viola to continue my vacation trip that day to Taormina. I would like to express my gratitude to all the other employees at Viola for the excellent service they provided us on the four occasions we visited the cafe. And I would also like to offer medical advice to that blonde employee: she urgently needs to see a psychiatrist to treat her nerves, as she is quite out of her mind. And she risks receiving a "vaffanculo" as a response.

Tonight, when I said “solo uno,” the blonde woman (who has multiple other bad reviews) at the counter suddenly acted like she didn't understand basic Italian and snapped at me to “just tell me what you want.” The attitude was dismissive and openly rude. There was no misunderstanding, just poor customer service and unnecessary hostility. Italy is full of warm, welcoming cafés. This is not one of them. I would not recommend supporting a business that treats customers this way. Instead I now go to Irma la dolce only a few minutes away and I'm always treated with respect. My family/friends and I have been paying customers here for months/years, ordering in Italian with no problems. Tonight, when I said "just one", the woman at the counter suddenly acted like she didn't understand basic Italian and snapped at me for "just telling me what you want". The attitude was dismissive and downright rude. There was no misunderstanding, just poor customer service and unnecessary hostility. Italy is full of warm, welcoming cafes. This is not one of them. I wouldn't recommend supporting a company that treats customers this way. Instead, I now go to Irma la Dolce, just a few minutes away, and I'm always treated with respect.

09/03/2026: One of the best places to spend a pleasant evening! Excellent food and truly well-crafted cocktails, prepared with care and passion. The real plus, however, is the atmosphere: Laura's smile is always there at the bar, along with Massimo's unwavering courtesy, making you feel right at home. Attentive service, a welcoming atmosphere, and consistent quality. Highly recommended!

01/03/2026: First of all, the food was truly excellent. We went to this restaurant because it was the only one with convenient parking and enough room for a somewhat extra-large car. Regarding the dishes: Appetizer with white shrimp (or pink shrimp from Sciacca) We ordered spaghetti with sea urchins and busiate with shrimp Negative notes: The appetizer never arrived. I was asked if it was a problem to have it after the main courses. After finishing my meal, when it was time to pay, I was asked if I still wanted it... Also another negative note: Despite the availability of a corner table set for three, when we asked to sit there, we were refused with a curt: "No, that's a table for three." The disappointment came shortly afterward when, despite the presence of other free tables for two, a young couple (so two, like us) were seated at the very table that had been denied to us. Beyond the seating arrangement, there was a complete lack of customer service. A little communication (e.g., "The table is reserved") would have been enough to transform a categorical refusal into an organizational necessity. Seeing others treated the same way we were denied by "regulations" demonstrates a lack of professionalism and a lack of attention to the guest. Fortunately, the experience was completely turned around by the owner, who was very good at treating the customer and consequently saved the restaurant's reputation (at least in my opinion). Final verdict: excellent restaurant, staff/organization needs revising. I don't feel like penalizing the restaurant itself with fewer stars.

16/03/2026: An extraordinary dinner at Gagini with Tiziana Frankfurt's tasting menu: six courses, one revelation after another. Well-balanced dishes with surprising pairings—the brilliant combination of harissa and pumpkin seeds and oil in the Cinisara carpaccio. The Umbrina with beurre blanc sauce was simply divine, not to mention the pea ice cream with salty notes from the smoked herring roe. Refined wines and a welcoming staff make the experience a true gastronomic journey. Highly recommended!

Her cuisine brings a breath of freshness and creativity, while maintaining the profound respect for raw materials and the local area that has always distinguished the chef's cuisine! The dishes are elegant, balanced, and surprising: each course tells a story of technique, sensitivity, and research. The chef's personality is clearly evident, as she reinterprets tradition with a contemporary and refined style. Impeccable service, a refined atmosphere, and a gastronomic journey that is absolutely worth discovering.

07/03/2026: We went for dinner two nights in a row. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful. We dined with our 9-month-old baby. Authentic Sicilian home cooking. Seafood and meat dishes. The mixed antipasto was phenomenal! As were the cannoli and almond jelly.

24/02/2026: If we could give it a 0, it would be the fairest rating!!! I was having lunch in Modica for work with a colleague. We trusted them because there were two police vans parked outside the restaurant. The place was nice at first glance, but it was a shame about everything else. The waitress couldn't even understand what she was saying, and when she came to the table, there was a bad smell of sweat. Considering it's only February, I can't imagine how the waitress would behave in August. That said, we ordered an appetizer and two first courses. The frozen shrimp appetizer was the only thing missing, but the rest was insufficient. We waited for the first courses and hoped for a miracle, but that wasn't the case. I've never eaten such tasteless pasta; the fish flavor was nonexistent, and it even lacked salt. After this miserable lunch, we paid a whopping €59 for two. The owner didn't even bother to ask what was wrong, but instead just gave us the bill. After paying, my colleague told her confidentially that the pasta was inedible, and she could only say that she couldn't do anything about it, in an annoyed tone. I don't think more can be said than that. I hope for the lady's sake that the chef, if he has one, takes a cooking class, uses fresh fish since we're close to the sea, and takes a hospitality course since she works in the restaurant industry!
