06/04/2024: Restaurant recommended by a resident of Varenna, it turned out to be an excellent medium/high level restaurant that appropriately combines traditional ingredients with less usual and, let's say, innovative cooking methods. I recommend the lamb chops cooked at low temperature: soft and tasty.

06/04/2024: We came to this restaurant and were very excited to make a reservatiom and possibly go, however this place did not meet my expectations, we got there around 8:00pn, we weren't even looking to sit just looking for information when the waitress very rudely told us ' we're full and walked away without allowing us to speak. If you want to be treated like a nobody then this place is for you, but my experience gave me a bad taste to not even book for the rest of our stay.
06/04/2024: Great cosy restaurant in Varenna. The gnocchi was excellent. Prior reservation is recommended.

02/04/2024: Such a beautiful hotel and village. Make sure you walk down to the Lake from the back of the hotel for some unreal photos and memories!
01/04/2024: Beautiful historic hotel in the most beautiful town on Lake Como. We were able to enjoy our stay in a room with views of the lake, simply incredible. The gardens are very charming and perfectly maintained, perfect to spend hours in them. The hotel workers have made us feel at home and with unbeatable treatment, always attentive to making us enjoy our stay. We were also able to have breakfast at the hotel, with a wide variety of local products from the area. Thank you very much and congratulations to the entire team, we recommend it and we will return when the weather is better.

02/04/2024: You got charged 3 Euro for tape water.
When we are placing the order, the waitress ask us if we want still or sparkling water, we explicitly asked for tape water and they keep asking us still or sparkling water, well, they should tell us no tape water served so we wont have a suprising bill with 3 euros of extra cost.
The service is just ok, bread before the meal is horrible, just like those you will have during war time.
30/03/2024: the restaurant staff just said in fornt of my face“ basta i cinesi eh“ （enough of the Chinese ）to other staff when I just want to ask if there is availble table. Maybe she thought that I did not speak italian. It is so rude and disrespectful and racist！ If you offer good quality food please check if you have a basic moral qualities with your staffs.

31/03/2024: Small portions for the price (I had five ravioli on the plate on a sauce that didn't have much flavor, all for €17), served in a cellar (where it's too cool)
27/11/2023: We ordered the Octopus Stew, Spaghetti Vongole, and Smoked Tuna Carbonara. Eveything was delicious. We had a table outside along the stairs so we were able to enjoy our meal with great scenery and perfect weather.

02/04/2024: We stayed here for a night and it was a huge mistake! Should have stayed at least two nights in this lovely hotel. All the staff were so helpful and friendly and they keep on asking if we needed anything. Will definitely stay in this hotel again if ever we’ll get the chance to be back in lake como.
22/11/2023: We hadn't booked but managed to get a table in the outside conservatory part. Staff were friendly. Cocktails were good. Pizza was delicious and good portion size. From the outside it looked like the nicest place in the area and it didn't disappoint. Would recommend.

27/02/2024: Chiamiamo domenica per prenotare per una decina di persone per un battesimo e ci risponde una signora che gentilmente ci conferma disponibilità del posto. Chiedo possibilità di opzionare per un giorno che mi viene confermata.
Richiamo e mi risponde una signora che abbastanza bruscamente mi dice “impossibile, non prendiamo prenotazioni per gruppi numerosi”. Le faccio presente che una sua collega mi aveva confermato disponibilità qualche giorno prima.. sua risposta “impossibile. Richiami tra 5 (!!!) giorni che verifichiamo ma lo escludo fin da ora”
Insomma.. scarsa professionalità, molta scortesia e nemmeno una mezza scusa per aver fatto perdere tempo.
13/10/2023: You can't beat the lakeside view, and you will love the imaginative cuisine. Our dinner included (besides amazing wheat bread) a delicate chanterelle mushroom soup, a wonderful creamy cauliflower vegetable course, and an amazing fresh lake "salmon trout", among other courses on the tasting menu. Wines are delicious. We took the ferry from Bellagio (dinner reservation opens 15 days in advance) and enjoyed the ride over/back and the walk along the lake. A highlight of our trip! Lovely people, delicious food, and a quiet lakeside evening. There are restaurant du lac eateries in almost every town on Lake Como. Be sure to choose the one in Varenna !

16/10/2023: Lovely restaurant directly overlooking the lake. The prices are a bit steep but in line with the rest of the restaurants in Varenna. Highly recommend their goat cheese salad, I've had it twice already and will be coming back for more on my next trip to Varenna!

22/10/2023: A great cafe with amazing views of the lake! We stopped here for some food and coffee and it didn’t disappoint. We got the carbonara and lasagna and both were delicious. We did notice in the menu they were labeled as “frozen ready meals” which I’m not sure if that means they are premade and heat them up? But the food was still really good so we didn’t mind. Also got this green tea and pistachio ice cream combo which was good but a little overpriced ( 10€ ). All in all though a great place to rest and enjoy the views!
16/10/2023: No sabíamos donde comer y fue todo un acierto, precios razonables, comida excelente y lo mejor las vistas que tienes. Empezamos con una bruschetta con tomate seco, berenjena y pesto que estaba brutal (lo recomiendo muchísimo), seguimos con un plato de pasta boloñesa y un risotto a la milanesa (todo muy rico) y terminamos con un par de cafes.
El trato por parte del personal estupendo.

05/11/2023: I was with a small group tour group, and this restaurant was prearranged. The staff was ready for us and the specified time, and the tables and menu were ready. We were able to choose from three items. I chose the vegetarian lasagne. We all thought that the food and wine were great. The dining room was lovely, and the staff were extremely efficient. Great tiramasu as well!

Tourist trap
27/11/2023: **WE WERE NOT CHARGED FOR THE AFFECTED DISHES**
We stopped for lunch at Nilus Bar because it was the only restaurant open in the village.
We ordered 2 traditional bruschettas which arrived promptly. The bread was thin and completely soaked with water from the chopped tomatoes. Price tag €7.50 each.
We then ordered:
Pappardelle with pesto sauce and crunch y bacon €16
Lasagna x2 €12 each
Crêpes Zucchine €13
The Pappardelle were extremely oily and with strange tasting vegetables. After a couple of mouthfuls, we found a piece of hair well intertwined with the pasta.
The lasagna servings were microwaved. They were extremely hot inside and cold on the outside. There was no trace of meat, and one of us found a piece of plastic in it. YES PLASTIC!!
We stopped eating and called the waiter/manager immediately, to inform them of the nice surprises we found in our plates.
The lady inspected the plates and recognised that there was indeed a hair and a piece of plastic in them.
She apologised and explained that the plastic was probably from the lids used to cover the lasagna in the fridge (!) and that the hair must have been carried by the wind (!)…
Jokingly we asked: is there wind in the kitchen?? And how strong was the wind for the hair to wrap itself around pappardelle???
She understood that we were not happy with her explanation and walked off.
When the bill arrived we saw that the two lasagnas and the pappardelle, which we left nearly untouched, had not been added to the bill.
Although they were honest, I think they should monitor the kitchen more closely. The restaurant is in a nice location, with amazing views of the lake, and it’s a shame that the food they serve is not up to standards.
Please do better!!
