The food was good and very reasonably priced for the area. Thomas's service was excellent. The downsides were the abundance of mosquitoes and the prevalence of smoking. Otherwise, it's a great place to dine.

This was the most vivid impression I had at Varenna. Everything was delicious, even exquisite. The restaurant is only open for lunch and dinner. Make sure you book a table in advance or be prepared to wait—it's worth it.

By far the best restaurant food experience we had from Florence thru Milan and Lake Como. Had to go back the next day. After enjoying their most incredible dishes the desert will blow you away. Al Prato will be my first destination when back in Varenna

A restaurant you absolutely must visit. Excellent dishes served on a lovely terrace away from the hustle and bustle, with impeccable service and a great wine list. Highly recommended.

Beautiful plating and delicious food! We especially loved the lamb chops and sea bass for the mains. Both the desserts - lava cake and raspberry cheesecake - were divine, not too sweet, super aesthetic plating, and generous portions!

Al Prato served its best with meals that we say are "fine dining". Each plate was served with a combination of tastes which gave the dish amazing flavours and satisfaction to the fullest. We had the scallops, sea bass and octopus. With no intentions to eat too much we went on to desserts too. Everything was exquisite 👌🏻

29/04/2026: Dear guests, we opted for the set menu. The prices were reasonable.
09/04/2026: A paradise of flavors at an unbeatable price! A fantastic experience! We took advantage of the convenient jeep service that took us from the village directly to the refuge and brought us back down at the end of the day. The staff was incredibly kind; we immediately felt at home. The food? 10 stars! We started with perfect pizzoccheri, then continued with ribs, goat, and stew, all accompanied by truly amazing polenta uncia. We finished on a high note with an excellent selection of local cheeses and a mix of homemade cakes that were out of this world. All for just €20 per person (plus €10 for jeep transportation). Unbeatable value for money. Highly recommended, we'll definitely be back!
