Royal Gourmet In Varenna

My husband & I got married in Varenna this Spring and had the absolute pleasure to eat & have cocktails at Visteria for our celebratory dinner. Aziz, our bartender made our night so heartfelt & special! He has to be one of the most charismatic, passionate & knowledgeable bartenders we’ve ever had. He puts so much so much care into his work & we feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to celebrate our wedding with his service. If you are visiting the Lake Como area, you must give this have a drink or 3 with Aziz at Visteria! Salute! 👏🏽

My wife and I had an incredible experience here. We celebrated our wedding at the restaurant Visteria downstairs and then continued at the bar immediately afterwards. The view was incredible, the food sensational and the service was top notch. All of the staff made the night so memorable, and our bartender Aziz made the celebration more special than we could have asked for. We will happily return in the future!

On Monday, April 6th, I went to Varenna to spend Easter Monday. We arrived at the restaurant and waited in line for an hour before being seated (though I have no complaints about this, as it's a holiday, so it's understandable). The problem arose later: I saw "spaghetti cacio e pepe" on the menu, so I told the waiter I'd like a portion. When the dish was brought to my table, I noticed it wasn't spaghetti, but ravioli. So, after the waiter told me it was "cacio e pepe" ravioli (not on the menu), he returned to the kitchen with the dish to confirm with the chefs and then returned to the table to reconfirm that it was that. I ate it, and obviously it wasn't cacio e pepe ravioli (which were from the old menu, from what I was later told), but rather butter and sage ravioli with spinach inside. Adding insult to injury, when they bring us the receipt, it says "cacio e pepe ravioli" was the dish we ordered, which was even more expensive. If I hadn't noticed, not only would I have eaten something I hadn't ordered, but I would have also paid more. Also, be careful: the final price includes a (large) tip, so when you go to pay, specify whether you intend to pay it or not.

We had such an amazing stay at Hotel Royal Victoria in Varenna and it was easily one of the highlights of our trip to Lake Como. From the moment we arrived everything felt welcoming and effortless. The hotel arranged to pick us up from the train station which made arriving in Varenna so easy after traveling. It was such a thoughtful touch and really set the tone for the level of service we experienced during our stay. When it was time for us to leave they also dropped us back off at the station which we really appreciated. We stayed in room 104 and the room was absolutely beautiful. It had that classic Lake Como charm but still felt very comfortable and elegant. The room was spotless and peaceful and it was the kind of place where you immediately feel relaxed when you walk in. The hotel itself is stunning and being right on the lake makes it feel like a truly special place to stay. Breakfast each morning was fantastic with a great variety of fresh food and excellent coffee. Sitting there with views of Lake Como was the perfect way to start the day. What stood out the most though was the staff. Everyone we interacted with was kind, professional, and genuinely welcoming. A special thank you to Federica from the concierge team. She helped get everything set up before we even arrived and gave us great restaurant recommendations while we were there. Having someone so helpful made a big difference for our trip. The location of the hotel is perfect and Varenna itself was an incredible place to stay. It made the whole Lake Como experience feel even more special. We will definitely be back if we ever return to Lake Como. Staying here is absolutely worth it compared to staying at a larger chain hotel in Como. The charm, service, and overall experience made this a truly memorable stay.

Excellent location, attention and service

Very disappointed with the hotel: - The rooms in the photos were nothing like the one I actually had, which was old and poorly decorated. - The restaurant was listed as open on Google+ on the website, but in reality, upon arrival, we were told it was closed until April, even though practically all the restaurants in town are closed in the evenings during that period. I would have appreciated being informed of this beforehand. - The spa was never listed as an extra: €100 for one hour is outrageous. So, I really felt ripped off with very mediocre service and that I was only paying for the location with its view of Lake Como.

Beautiful historic hotel in the heart of Varenna. Really nice staff, well maintained property, nice morning breakfast and great view of the Lake
