16/03/2026: We had such an amazing stay at Hotel Royal Victoria in Varenna and it was easily one of the highlights of our trip to Lake Como. From the moment we arrived everything felt welcoming and effortless. The hotel arranged to pick us up from the train station which made arriving in Varenna so easy after traveling. It was such a thoughtful touch and really set the tone for the level of service we experienced during our stay. When it was time for us to leave they also dropped us back off at the station which we really appreciated. We stayed in room 104 and the room was absolutely beautiful. It had that classic Lake Como charm but still felt very comfortable and elegant. The room was spotless and peaceful and it was the kind of place where you immediately feel relaxed when you walk in. The hotel itself is stunning and being right on the lake makes it feel like a truly special place to stay. Breakfast each morning was fantastic with a great variety of fresh food and excellent coffee. Sitting there with views of Lake Como was the perfect way to start the day. What stood out the most though was the staff. Everyone we interacted with was kind, professional, and genuinely welcoming. A special thank you to Federica from the concierge team. She helped get everything set up before we even arrived and gave us great restaurant recommendations while we were there. Having someone so helpful made a big difference for our trip. The location of the hotel is perfect and Varenna itself was an incredible place to stay. It made the whole Lake Como experience feel even more special. We will definitely be back if we ever return to Lake Como. Staying here is absolutely worth it compared to staying at a larger chain hotel in Como. The charm, service, and overall experience made this a truly memorable stay.

27/03/2026: Our experience with Villa Cipressi in Varenna was unfortunately disappointing – especially regarding transparency and pricing. We had originally planned to have our civil wedding ceremony there (no reception – just signing the marriage certificate and taking a few photos). We submitted an initial inquiry, based on which we were given a generally acceptable price. However, only in later negotiations, shortly before the final planning, did additional costs come to light, which had not been clearly communicated either on the website or in our previous conversations. These substantial additional costs quickly added up to around €4,000 – and were in no way transparent beforehand. Based on this experience, we ultimately decided against having our civil ceremony there. It didn't feel right to begin this special chapter of our lives with such negative impressions. Our advice to future couples: If you are considering a wedding at Villa Cipressi, inquire very carefully about all potential additional costs and have everything confirmed in writing. In our opinion, there is a clear need for improvement in terms of transparency.

14/12/2025: I'm giving one star because less is the best. We waited at the counter for five minutes to be served. To get the attention of the person at the counter, I said hello, looked at her, and zero. As if nothing had happened, she continued serving the people who arrived after us. The place was a mess; there were cups and dirty things everywhere.

01/09/2025: The atmosphere is lovely, located at a beautiful crossroads, and a short walk toward the little church offers a beautiful view. They have plenty of tables outside, some covered, and some inside, which I haven't had a chance to evaluate. The service is sometimes nice, sometimes annoying—so annoying?! At the register, there was an inviting menu, but when it came time to order, it wasn't the current one; the options were rabbit or sausage (maybe Wednesdays are different?). The sausage and polenta were good, but after reading about stew with polenta on the menu, I was left craving it! I ordered a slice of cake; it was very cheap, but I later discovered that this was because it was a supermarket-bought tart, so the price was reasonable. PS: The above is my review, not taking into account that it's run by volunteers, to whom, of course, my respect and thanks are due.

03/08/2025: Lunch at this refuge is always a treat. Also, visit the meticulously curated museum. Be careful of the Queen of England; you must use "Her Majesty" in her presence. Well done, well done, well done.

30/07/2025: I didn't eat, but I enjoyed the friendliness and helpfulness of the bartender. The atmosphere was clean and the service was good. I recommend it and...I'll be back.

06/04/2026: We had a seafood appetizer, sea bass, and mixed fried seafood! Everything was excellent. Our neighbors were having pizza, which looked delicious. Well done!

21/03/2026: Average pizza, even good, but you can't call and order five takeaways at 7:30 PM for 8:15 PM, and then after more than 40 minutes have the waiter who handles the orders tell you, "I'm not capable of performing magic." When you're the first one to "perform magic" by letting all the customers who clearly arrived later go by! At this point, they simply won't accept reservations over the phone. I absolutely don't recommend it! Go somewhere else if you don't have a sit-down dinner or if you need more than two pizzas. Wait for four pizzas: 50 minutes.
