05/08/2026: I rarely write restaurant reviews, but Sapio truly deserves one. Earlier this year, I wanted to surprise my wife for her 40th birthday with something she would never forget. I arranged for her and my mother-in-law to spend a few days in Sicily, and finding the perfect restaurant became one of the most important parts of the trip. I had heard wonderful things about Sapio through friends, so I contacted the restaurant almost six months in advance. My wife has coeliac disease, meaning she cannot eat gluten, and when dining at this level there is always some uncertainty about whether a tasting menu can be adapted without compromising the experience. From the very first email, the team at Sapio was exceptional. They were warm, professional, incredibly accommodating, and gave me complete confidence that my wife would be in safe hands. Their communication throughout the entire process was simply outstanding. The evening itself exceeded every expectation. Both my wife and my mother-in-law came back absolutely amazed. They described it as one of the finest dining experiences they have ever had. Every dish on the tasting menu was beautifully executed, the wine pairings were outstanding, and the service was flawless from beginning to end. What impressed us even more was the genuine care the team showed. They had gone to extraordinary lengths to source a wide range of gluten-free ingredients and products so that my wife could enjoy the full tasting menu without compromise. Nothing felt like an afterthought. Every course was prepared with complete confidence, and it was obvious that both the kitchen and the service team have an exceptional understanding of coeliac disease and cross-contamination. To make the evening even more special, they also celebrated her birthday with thoughtful personal touches that made the experience feel truly unique. Those small gestures meant a great deal to us. If you are looking for an unforgettable fine dining experience in Catania, Sapio is simply outstanding. And if you have coeliac disease or require a completely gluten-free experience, I honestly cannot imagine a better restaurant. The level of knowledge, preparation and genuine care is second to none. Thank you to everyone at Sapio for helping make my wife’s 40th birthday so incredibly special. It is a memory that our family will treasure for many years to come. Highly, highly recommended. Five stars without hesitation.

04/08/2026: This was truly AMAZING! We were really spoiled from start to finish. I recommend this to everyone. Service perfect, food perfect, wines perfectly paired. The atmosphere was great, just a bit quiet for a Saturday. We will definitely come back again.

17/08/2026: The place is nice, the food is good, a good selection of appetizers, and the prices are normal, like in other restaurants... Everything is expensive everywhere these days... The only downside is the service; we would have liked to eat together, but some appetizers arrived quite a bit apart from each other. Something went wrong. Definitely room for improvement.

17/08/2026: As the waiter poured wine, I noticed the glass was stained with lipstick. Lifting the napkin from the plate, I noticed a hair on the plate. The risotto was extremely salty and inedible, the paccheri seemed drained and over-seasoned, and to top it off, the fish was fresh 🤔 I saw it was cooked and brought to the table. As soon as the fish arrived, so did the smell of fish being kept outside its ideal temperature. I won't add anything else.

01/08/2026: If I could, I'd give it six stars! The restaurant has such a lovely ambiance with its charming little terrace and soft jazzy background music. We were greeted with a special appetizer, followed by bruschetta, and the highlight was the cheese and charcuterie platter with homemade focaccia! Before that, we received a warm and expert wine recommendation, perfectly paired with our meal. All in all, the best spot you can find in Catania.

20/08/2026: 5 stars because there aren't 6. Even though we were short on time, the experience was superb; in fact, the staff made sure we were on time. Definitely worth trying; the dishes are excellent. P.S.: We were told the portions were small, but I was already full with the welcome homemade breads, and I would have stopped at the appetizer. The portions were adequate for trying several items and enjoying them thoroughly.

19/08/2026: A pleasant surprise. My wife and I treat ourselves to a Michelin-starred restaurant every now and then, and I was surprised this one hadn't received that recognition yet. We'll definitely be back.

13/08/2026: My reviews are consistently positive: excellent meat, but above all, clean and uncharred grill. Overall, the prices are fair for the quality you eat. Just two pieces of advice: when you ask for the horse meat rare, ask for it knowingly, because cooking it even slightly beyond rare makes this meat decidedly difficult to chew. And as for the house wine, make sure it arrives chilled, because at room temperature—in the summer heat—it becomes undrinkable. Update 2026: Lemon sorbet is full price, but served in a small glass. The soda pop trend has also been noticeable here, and it certainly doesn't look good for this place.

12/08/2026: Delicious food, a two-tiered atmosphere (for those familiar with the restaurant and those not), and efficient but sometimes borderline service... A tip: order your drinks after receiving your food, but order your desserts with your initial order.

08/08/2026: Excellent products, and the young man and woman at the counter who served us were very kind, giving us the opportunity to sample various typical products. After a week in Sicily, we finally tasted real pistachios. Highly recommended.

26/07/2026: The staff are incredibly attentive. They let you try everything. And the best part is, it's the only bar open all day, including siesta time on Sundays.

14/06/2026: We had an amazing stay, and dinner at Shalai. We upgraded to the Junior Suite with terrace, and the room was really perfect. The ceiling just wow! The staff all really helpful and friendly. And for dinner we had the “Leggende di Terre” (meat tasting menu) with wine pairing which was fabulous & a really amazing experience.

10/06/2026: Superb hotel. Really lovely, historic, and comfortable. The reception staff were very attentive and spoke French. Good breakfast with a varied menu. Pretty white tablecloths. Refined dinner available on site.
