Just seeing an unwanted guest on our plate on New Year's Eve seems like science fiction, but not at this place. Completely different from what we had imagined, we'll never return. Plus, the food was tasteless and the portions were small, €65 per person, and the owner didn't even give us a discount after what we saw. Seriously, I repeat, never again 👎🏽

07/02/2026: A step back in time, this place takes you back to the original function and genuinely rustic style of mountain huts. Very quaint. The service and cuisine are those of a mountain hut, and rightly so. If you don't like it, go to the restaurant.

24/11/2025: Lured by the promising Google rating, we had lunch at this restaurant in mid-July 2025 to break up our day of sightseeing in the Borromean Islands.
The setting is undeniably very pleasant, especially on the upstairs terrace, and the staff were welcoming and professional.
However, we were very disappointed by the mediocrity of the food, which was truly not up to the exorbitant prices charged.
The five-course tasting menu, after a decent starter, turned out to be a tourist trap, consisting of, among other things, bland and overcooked fish, and pasta with a poor "Lake Carbonara" made up of a pasty sauce and a few supermarket trout roe, all as salty as the bill at the end, which made us never want to return. Even though the island itself is particularly touristy, it undoubtedly has some more authentic places worth choosing.

04/11/2025: Centrally located hotel, very close to the lake and within walking distance of the station for those arriving by train. Unfortunately, the bed cover in the room we were assigned was falling off and the mattress cover was missing. The bathroom had no bidet, which was another major drawback. When we requested a replacement room, we were unfortunately told they were fully booked. I recommend including photos of rooms like the one we were assigned on Booking.com and also include the option of bathrooms without bidets. The included breakfast was pleasant and served at the table, not a buffet, but there was a decent selection.
29/10/2025: Luckily, we only booked the hotel for one night. The room was okay for an old building, but very noisy. A major disappointment was the breakfast, which was a sugar rush. It consisted of just cake, two rusks with Nutella and jam, juice, and coffee – that was it. I cannot recommend this hotel.

02/01/2026: Booked here for our last evening in Stresa. Friendly welcome from staff. Ordered a bottle of Gavi wine (€48!!) Ordered a starter each, mozzarella cheese, and a burrata.. Then a lasagne and a spaghetti dish, a dessert and coffee, finishing with a lemon cello All our food was delicious, freshly cooked and well presented. :) :)

The welcome, the service, and the food are all top-notch.

14/10/2025: I've been to the Grotto St. Anna a few times over the past few years, but each time I felt less hospitable and less welcomed as a guest. The sign on the gate in German stating that only drinks are served with food isn't exactly a welcome – it could certainly be addressed differently. And today, the absolute low point. As always, we walked to the grotto and unfortunately found ourselves in front of a locked gate. Even though Google and the website said it should be open from 12 p.m., we waited in vain for 40 minutes in front of the locked door before heading back. No "closed" sign, no voicemail, no information... and we weren't the only ones; they probably didn't need it.
14/10/2025: Avoid this restaurant at all costs!
Totally unprofessional! We found ourselves standing in front of closed doors this afternoon, even though Google said the restaurant was open.
There's no indication on the website that the restaurant is closed today.
Can't be reached by phone either!
