17/05/2025: New management (all young!) of a historic restaurant of the Sacro Monte, we had a great time. Excellent dishes, courteous service, beautiful location. Recommended.

14/05/2025: This recently reopened restaurant is an excellent solution to have a good meal after having taken a stroll in the suggestive village of the sacred mountain, it offers excellent cuisine accompanied by a smiling and professional service. I thank you for the lunch and I wish you a good continuation.

07/04/2025: Friendly and attentive service, the first course (paccheri with old beech) was a little disappointing as, although rich in ingredients, the dish was bland. Unfortunately the same goes for the meat starter with parmesan cream, which was almost tasteless. Well prepared and seasoned beef tartare, chocolate heart dessert I recommend. I would have given it a 3.5 but all things considered and considering the environment and service, I will close with an excessive rating.

25/11/2024: Value for money is not right. We only had starter/priming. We felt like we got the “tourist-treatment”. Rather unfriendly, not caring to excuse a 45Min long waiting time for a starter.

22/05/2025: L'ambiente è molto ampio ed è arredato splendidamente. C'è anche un piccolo dehor esterno dove si può mangiare (e fumare). La qualità dei vini è ottima e ce n'è per tutte le tasche. Il cibo molto buono e di qualità, ma, secondo me, i taglieri sono un pò cari paragonati ad altri locali simili in zona. Ci è piaciuto molto.

30/05/2025: Excellent lunch with a view and the lake just a few steps away, kind and welcoming staff, really excellent, the fish was cooked very well, we didn't appreciate the meat much, however, a recommended place and where we will definitely return! Thanks

18/05/2025: Bad experience, terrible way to deal with customers! I will never go to this restaurant again because of the bad welcome, We didn't even go in. Please advise that outside seating only when you receive a reservation.

03/06/2025: Very suggestive location in the outdoor lawn overlooking the lake. In our case it was a simple aperitif, good cold cuts, panfritto too, I can't judge the hot food.

16/05/2025: A beautiful place, surrounded by nature, among animals (cows, goats, chickens...) and a wonderful view of Lake Varese. The cuisine is traditional, I would say almost homemade, and very simple. However, tasty and nutritious dishes. The menu is based on locally produced meat. The service is quite good, the only annoyance is people smoking outside near the tables.

01/06/2025: Nice place, but really a thank you to the waitresses, so many people and they are always very kind and nice, super helpful and kind, just for them I would gladly return, plus you eat well and it's a nice place. But really thanks to the girls who served us all evening ❤️

18/05/2025: I have been to this restaurant and I had a really good time. The place is very beautiful, surrounded by nature and perfect for a bit of a break. The food is good, the portions are right and the prices are adequate. The staff is kind and welcoming. A pleasant experience, which I gladly recommend.

15/05/2025: Siamo stati al Contado del Gobbo per la comunione di mio figlio. Il posto è incantevole, ma la gestione e il servizio sono stati una vera delusione. Prenotazione gestita con poca chiarezza, richieste rigide e poca disponibilità al dialogo. Il giorno dell’evento, porzioni scarse, patatine bruciate, disorganizzazione nel servire i bambini e nessuna attenzione verso le nostre richieste. La torta, pagata a parte, è stata decorata in modo approssimativo, e ci è stato persino negato di tenere una semplice decorazione di carta. Alle mie segnalazioni finali non è seguita neanche una parola di scuse. Conto salato e nessun gesto di cortesia. Un peccato, perché basterebbe un po’ più di attenzione al cliente per rendere il posto davvero all’altezza.

06/04/2025: We had a late breakfast with friends, it was practically lunch, based on amazing homemade desserts. Grandma's cake and cheesecake with delicious chestnut cream. Very kind and smiling staff, a very basic but welcoming place, after all this is how it should be, you come here to walk (after having completed the route of the 14 chapels and before arriving at the sanctuary) and to look at the view. In fact, I have to go back to have lunch on the terrace overlooking Varese and the lakes, enticed not only by the view, but also by the dishes we saw passing by.

16/03/2025: I stopped at the bar during a Sunday outing. I can't say anything about the food as we only had drinks. The service is not very attentive, the waitress addressed a table near us with foreign kids in an unpolite and unhelpful way (among other things, demonstrating a very basic knowledge of English), a poorly maintained place, a terrible bathroom (also because anyone from outside can access it). Very beautiful view. A few adjustments would be enough and it would be much more pleasant.

10/05/2025: What can I say, every city has its iconic landmarks, those that tell its story. In Varese, La Romana is just this: an ice cream shop that has managed to become part of the city's identity. The ice cream conquers at the first taste, both in the creamy and fruit flavours. It's just a shame there isn't a real space to sit and enjoy it calmly... but perhaps this is also part of the Varesinità: standing under the portico, chatting with the cone in your hand.

09/05/2025: The gelato is so bad it is embarrassing. This gelateria teamed with ritter sport which is low quality German 🇩🇪 chocolate sold mainly in budget supermarkets. I avoided the ritter sport flavours. I opted for dark chocolate and zabaione. It is creamy but the type of effect achieved mainly with vegetable oils not milk. The zabaione is too sweet as is the cone. The panna (cream) on top tastes artificial and it left an unpleasant after taste. Thankfully some bins in the area have garbage bags that are made of nylon so you can dispose of it quickly. P.S : the service is very kind hence the second star.

26/05/2025: I had an amazing experience at this restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious — every dish was full of flavor and made with care. What truly stood out, though, was the exceptional service. The staff was incredibly attentive and kind, making us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Mario, the owner, is always present and involved, making sure every guest is taken care of. You can really feel his passion for what he does, and it reflects in both the food and the atmosphere. Highly recommended — we’ll definitely be coming back!

26/05/2025: I would 100% recommend this restaurant in Milan because the service and food are spectacular, and the atmosphere is beautiful and welcoming. Mario, the owner, is a total genius. I would always come back.
