18/10/2025: We tried the appetizers, first courses, second courses, and desserts, all perfect. The service and helpfulness of the owners are beyond compare. We return as often as we can when we're in Rome. Highly recommended.
17/10/2025: I can't give it five stars for two important reasons: we ordered a simple cacio e pepe, which arrived covered in COLD fried zucchini, thinly sliced, which negatively affected the taste; in fact, they were set aside.
We then ordered a lobster catalana, which is priced at €90 per kilo on the menu, but unfortunately, it doesn't live up to its value, both due to the freshness of the product and the way it was served, with a mashed potato covering the lobster itself.
I've attached a photo for a visual assessment.
To be fair, I'd also like to highlight the courtesy of the staff and the atmosphere of an old-fashioned Roman tavern right in the city center, just steps from the Vatican.

08/10/2025: The food is excellent; try the homemade pasta (superb) and the meat (good and well-cooked), obviously with a cascade of porcini mushrooms.
The place is a bit dated and could use some more tidiness; there are only a few tables.
The wild strawberries in Nemi are a must; they're also available here, but I had mine overlooking the lake (spectacular).

The welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere will immediately make you feel at home. The service is attentive and friendly, passionately guiding you through your selection of dishes.
I had the pleasure of enjoying a plate of homemade fettuccine with wild boar, which was a true masterpiece. The pasta, with its perfect texture, embraced a rich, flavorful sauce, with the wild boar adding a rustic, delicate touch to the dish. Each bite was an explosion of flavors that made me feel instantly immersed in the local gastronomic tradition.
Next, the suckling pig platter was a real treat. The tender and flavorful meat melted in your mouth, its flavor reflecting the care taken in selecting the ingredients and preparing them. The platter was enriched with a selection of excellent cheeses, which, accompanied by a jam, perfectly complemented the experience. Every bite was a journey through authentic and genuine flavors.
The combination of fresh ingredients, culinary expertise, and impeccable hospitality makes Le Scalette a must-visit for anyone who wants to savor the true cuisine of Nemi. An experience I absolutely recommend and deserves 5 stars!

19/10/2025: Every restaurant has its own approach. If you want a menu where, for example, you charge €2.50 for a coffee or a bottle of tap water, that's fine. Or expensive entrees, that's fine. But then the service and the location must be top-notch. Instead, the tables are packed and there's no room for anyone to pass, with those at the next table sitting with you. The server is clearly struggling. As for the entrees, the bill... everything is so difficult.

09/10/2025: We were recommended to try this place by a waiter in another restaurant and we were so glad he did! The staff were super lovely, and despite not having a booking, they fit us in. The food was delicious, fresh pasta and lovely sauces. It’s off the beaten track, so not as busy with tourists as other places. A real gem!

04/11/2025: Given that everyone has their own tastes, bad days can happen, etc.
I'm giving 3 stars because it's the average between 1-star food and 5-star service. The staff is excellent and behaved in an exemplary manner that many restaurateurs wouldn't.
As for the meal, I personally and my companions didn't enjoy it. In those areas, perhaps wrongly, I always expect to eat top-notch wild boar ragù and always have unique food. Perhaps I had high expectations. We were coming from a weekend where this happened, and comparing it, it turned out to be a disappointing lunch for us.
We were perplexed; it was a bit dry, the flavor wasn't the best, and we didn't eat well. However, I think the attached photos speak for themselves. The cacio e pepe with butter is just plain pointless.
Perhaps the constant flow of tourists contributed to this? I don't know.
However, the owner, when sending the dishes back, insisted on not making us pay for lunch, but we still left 20 euros because there is work behind things and it is right that a minimum amount be paid.
27/10/2025: We went to this restaurant yesterday. The atmosphere seemed pleasant, and the first courses we ordered were really good.
However, my experience changed drastically with the second course: a chicken dish, in which I found bones that didn't look like chicken at all. I politely pointed this out to the waiter, who was courteous and reported the observation to the kitchen. He then returned, telling me that "the chef confirmed it was chicken."
At that point, faced with a response that denied the evidence without any verification, I decided to put the bones in my glass to concretely demonstrate the situation. Shortly afterward, a man dressed in a manner not reminiscent of a chef came out, very aggressive and rude, and arrogantly reiterated that "it was all chicken," without even bothering to check.
The most unpleasant aspect was not so much the mistake or the inconvenience in the dish (it can happen), but the complete lack of respect and management of the dialogue with the customer. A simple clarifying conversation would have been enough to avoid any tension, but instead the situation was handled with arrogance and nervousness, turning a constructive complaint into a pointless and unpleasant confrontation.
A good restaurant professional, however, should train through awareness and empathy, that is, the ability to treat a customer's complaint as useful information, not as a threat to one's ego or competence.
In the restaurant world, the quality of food is important, but the human quality in dealing with customers is even more so. Thank you.

30/09/2025: Excellent Roman cuisine. Dedication in the preparation of the dishes. If you like Roman cuisine, I recommend it. Fair prices, good food. They should just offer a few more beers or wines. Otherwise, it's a great place, small but ideal for an intimate dinner... based on pajata!! I've already been back and will go again... the tripe... so good.

13/11/2025: It was quite an experience, reminding me that what's good isn't in the ostentatious but in the simple things made with love. Thank you so much, I will always remember the ravioli with tomato sauce.
13/11/2025: Service was pretty slow despite them not being busy. It was about 9pm and there was no line to get in. We were also sat in the back of a cramped corner of the middle room despite there being several tables open in other areas that seemed more spacious. At one point it even felt like we were purposely being ignored since an Italian couple who sat down 10 minutes after us were seated next to the lady making the fresh pasta and had their order taken within 3 min and even got their food served before the waiter could even get to us. When we finally had our order taken after 15 min of waiting, the attitude of our waiter seemed pretty off as well. It felt like he didn’t want us there at all.
As for the food, we started off with red wine and their caprese which was good. We also had the carbonara since that’s what was recommended but it just tasted wayyyyy too salty and the pasta seemed undercooked. And I’m someone who likes to add salt to everything too. I’ve read the restaurant’s responses to other reviewers who has the same criticism on TripAdvisor and they’ve kept responding that “Roman food is typically salty” so take that as you will with a grain of salt (haha). Just wanted to let anyone know in case they felt the same way about the taste. They also mentioned in their other responses to other reviews that we could have returned our dishes to have it remade but we didn’t want to seem rude. We also got tiramisu which was surprisingly my favorite dish from the restaurant.
I went up to the cashier to pay but was just left standing awkwardly for an extended period of time as the cashier was busy making small talk to her coworkers despite the restaurant no longer being busy at that point. I mean like only 2-3 tables still eating and 5 workers crowded in the main room just hanging out while I’m waiting to pay. Could just be a cultural difference so idk but it’s something to keep in mind for anyone reading this.
Overall, pretty mid compared to my expectations with all the hype I’ve seen and food was okay. We had high expectations due to the recommendations from social media so I’m not sure if their quality went down due to them being trendy lately. I honestly didn’t even know they had that whole gimmick with the lady making fresh pasta at the front but I’m sure that’s part of the reason why this place is famous.
Fyi: don’t trust the palettes of food reviewers from reddit or tiktok lol
