I'd never been there before, and I must say it was a wonderful surprise.
The food and wine were excellent, and I'll definitely be back soon.

We found exemplary hospitality and excellent quality food and wines.

11/11/2025: Last month we
returned to this restaurant, and it proved to be a true gem in Malcesine. The tamarind tuna tartare was among the best I've ever had, and the coconut milk fish soup was truly amazing.
A well-kept restaurant, with friendly, cheerful staff. The menu is rich in original, carefully crafted flavors from around the world.
Among so many touristy restaurants catering to foreigners (of mediocre quality for an Italian palate), this one stands out for its quality and creativity. Highly recommended and highly recommended!

09/02/2026: We took advantage of the 50th birthday promotion for two, which included dinner and accommodations. The location is beautiful, charming, and peaceful. Unfortunately, it was foggy, but the atmosphere was still very charming. Before dinner, we visited the culatello aging cellars, where the entire process was explained to us. Dinner included an aperitif, four courses, dessert, and a petite pâtisserie. The package included wine pairings, featuring local wines of their own production. The service was impeccable, as you'd expect from a Michelin-starred restaurant. The menu was fantastic, as the photos show. We stayed in the "Emilia" room, a spacious and welcoming room with high ceilings and exposed beams, decorated in a milk/cow theme.
25/01/2026: We stayed for two nights in this fantastic historic residence!
Hotel: beautiful, authentic. The historic common areas are breathtaking. It feels like being in another era. The room is comfortable, spacious, and full of amenities. The bed and the room temperature were perfect. From our viewpoint, we could see the peacock house, and we loved it.
Restaurant: we tried both... the ancient Pallavicina courtyard has a fantastic menu, and every dish was rich in flavor and history (we tried the 15th anniversary menu). The dining room is beautiful, and the tableware is rare to find. Perhaps the only downside is the service... extremely slow, but I think there was a mix-up because we waited an hour between the arrival and the first course. There are many young people practicing, so you have to be patient because overall, it's a great experience.
The Culatello Museum and the cellar with the culatellos maturing are the icing on the cake!
A very positive experience, a very high-level, elegant restaurant (and with deep roots, without improvisation).
The Hosteria del maiale, on the other hand, offers excellent local dishes and a small shop.
Spending two days in this establishment allows you to better understand this rugged yet enchanting area and the history of this family over the years. Come without hesitation.

13/01/2026: True gastronomical experience with tradition at the root, and it’s refreshing and comforting. No clue why they took away the star from them at Michelin, but this is a highly recommended venue.
08/01/2026: After a couple of years, I'm returning to a restaurant I loved...unfortunately, I find the prices not in line with the quality, and the service, while professional, is rather slow and sterile.
The passatelli is tasteless, the boiled meat is decent but not as exceptional as it once was. The cutlet Bolognese is nothing exciting, everything is passable but nothing enchanting. In some trattorias, you can eat better or the same but for at least half the price.
The wine list is nice, but with few accessible labels.
What a shame!

Their homemade tortelli are delicious, and the selection of boiled and roasted meats, with side dishes and sauces to match, is amazing. I really appreciated the staff's courtesy, and the prices are in line with other restaurants in the city. It's also suitable for groups, as, in addition to the classic dishes on the menu, they also serve excellent gnocco fritto (fried gnocchi) with cured meats and cheeses...highly recommended...👍

11/02/2026: I went to Nonna Emilia in San Donato and had a truly wonderful meal. The dishes were tasty, with generous portions and authentic flavors reminiscent of proper home cooking. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming, making you feel right at home. I will definitely be back and recommend it to anyone looking for authentic, quality cuisine. Kudos to the entire staff!

11/01/2026: As always, the dishes are excellent, you can never go wrong! The waiters are kind and welcoming, and the girl with the long red hair is fantastic! It's hard to find waiters like her, knowledgeable, always smiling, helpful, and attentive to customers. The tigelline with parmesan ice cream are my favorite, I always order them. Ditto the tagliatelle with ragù, which, according to tradition, they recommend accompanying with a piece of onion and salt, well, speechless! The braised cheek with fried onion is also delicious, not to mention the desserts... In short, every time you leave with a satisfied palate! Luckily, I have more than an hour's drive, otherwise I'd always be there 😅

09/03/2026: I chose this osteria to celebrate my birthday. We went on a Sunday for lunch. Expectations were high, but they were met. We all ate very well. The only dish I wasn't thrilled with was the tortelloni with pears, perhaps partly due to personal taste; everything else was good. The service was good, not perfect, but I can understand that given the number of people they had to serve. They started quickly with the entrees, then slowed down a bit. The bill seemed reasonable; they also offered us grappa and a kind of alcoholic coffee sorbet, which we really appreciated. I liked the location.

Excellent cuisine (porcini mushrooms, truffles, and much more) with very friendly staff and owners.

27/01/2026: A restaurant in the charming setting of a renovated old mill. Authentic atmosphere and plenty of customers, even during weekday lunch.
Extremely friendly and competent service, and the staff promptly responds to all guest requests.
Traditional cuisine, yet decidedly above average in terms of creativity and attention to ingredients: fresh pasta made with chestnut flour or burnt wheat, duck ragù, braised cheek, guinea fowl, and original desserts like pears in Barolo sauce or apple fritters.
The vegetable dishes are particularly popular, with a wide selection of seasonal options—we were truly impressed by the at least five or six side dish options, when you're usually lucky to find a plate of the usual grilled vegetables. Highly recommended!

19/02/2026: Having recently moved to the area, I decided to explore the surrounding restaurants, and I can confidently say that Il Truciolo is the absolute best.
Having frequented it several times, I've had the opportunity to sample most of the dishes on the menu, and there wasn't a single dish that didn't win me over. From appetizers to dessert, every ingredient is carefully selected, and every bite offers a truly pleasurable experience.
The service deserves special mention: the wait staff is professional, friendly, and always smiling, putting guests at ease immediately. The owner is extremely kind and helpful, and getting to know him makes the experience even more enjoyable.
The restaurant is meticulously maintained, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for feeling at home.
A restaurant I've grown to love and will continue to recommend without reservation.
04/02/2026: A decidedly disappointing experience.
If you're looking for a restaurant where you can feel welcomed and leave feeling full, look elsewhere.
The food is of acceptable quality, but everything else is out of place.
The menu, recited exclusively by word of mouth, may seem quaint for a minute, but then it becomes clear that it's simply there to avoid displaying prices that, when it comes to the bill, seem far from justified.
The portions? Minimalist to the point of being symbolic: perhaps 60 grams of pasta for the first course and a mini Bolognese cutlet for the second. Ask for roast potatoes on the side, and they place two (exactly) small pieces soaked in oil next to the second course, counting them as a complete side dish.
When you look at the bill, the disproportion with the dishes served becomes even more evident.
You expect substance, but here it feels like you're on a strict diet... but at luxury restaurant prices.
The wait times are so long, you almost have time to reconsider your choice of restaurant.
In short: you eat too little, you wait too long, and you pay as if you were served by a Michelin-starred chef. Transparency is lacking.
Not recommended unless you want to leave unsatisfied and disappointed that you've wasted your money.

05/01/2026: Still fresh in the memory of today's group lunch at Quinta Terra in Rio Saliceto with friends, I want to tell you I'd go back tomorrow!!! Let's start with the reservation and agreement on the group menu. The management was very kind and helpful, with WhatsApp service. The menu is rich in Emilian tradition, from which I only had to choose a few dishes. It was hard because just reading it makes you like everything! Now I'll do something different. I don't have photos because we forgot to take them, but if you go to their pages you'll find them, and I guarantee they are exactly like that. I'm offering you the menu I put together. Go there and try it.
EVERYTHING SUPERLATIVE and the price very competitive.
My menu suggestion
Appetizers
- Scamorza cheese rolled on a bed of radicchio and balsamic vinegar cream
- Pumpkin flan on Taleggio cheese fondue
Two first courses:
- Potato and speck tortelli with walnut sauce
- Egg tagliolini with mushroom and sausage ragù
Main course:
- Roast pork cheek served with sautéed vegetables and potatoes
With excellent, well-known wine for every three people. Then, off-menu, we ordered homemade desserts (zuppa inglese, torta tenerina, mascarpone with berries and chocolate shavings, and cheesecake), generous portions, a lemon and ginger sorbet that tasted like ice cream, and coffee.
Fast and courteous service.
They also offer the option of taking home in a well-protected tray the leftovers, which are not much... if you don't finish it all, there were more women than men, and we know we eat less.
I am proud to say that in the lower Reggio Emilia area, there is such an excellent restaurant that retains the warmth and authenticity of the trattorias of the past. Unfortunately, it is always full and you have to book a month in advance if you are in a group.
02/01/2026: I've been wanting to go for a long time but never got around to it. Now that I've been there, I have to say it's absolutely worth it. Kudos to all of you. Keep up the good work.
