18/10/2025: We tried the appetizers, first courses, second courses, and desserts, all perfect. The service and helpfulness of the owners are beyond compare. We return as often as we can when we're in Rome. Highly recommended.
17/10/2025: I can't give it five stars for two important reasons: we ordered a simple cacio e pepe, which arrived covered in COLD fried zucchini, thinly sliced, which negatively affected the taste; in fact, they were set aside.
We then ordered a lobster catalana, which is priced at €90 per kilo on the menu, but unfortunately, it doesn't live up to its value, both due to the freshness of the product and the way it was served, with a mashed potato covering the lobster itself.
I've attached a photo for a visual assessment.
To be fair, I'd also like to highlight the courtesy of the staff and the atmosphere of an old-fashioned Roman tavern right in the city center, just steps from the Vatican.

02/10/2025: Great location, but above all, excellent fresh fish. Very friendly staff and fair prices. I recommend the homemade scialatielli and the fried fish, as well as the slow-cooked calamari.

03/09/2025: If there's one place in Rome I always love returning to, it's Il Papetto on Gianicolense. I don't know if it's the family atmosphere, the consistently friendly service, or the quality of the fish, but every time I go there I leave with a smile and a happy belly. It's one of those restaurants that makes you feel at home, without too many frills, but with an incredible attention to flavor and fresh ingredients. The first time I went, the name intrigued me, but it was the aroma that wafted from the door that won me over. As soon as I sat down, I immediately noticed the courtesy of the staff: smiling, helpful, and ready to offer advice without ever being intrusive. And I must say, their recommendations have always turned out perfectly. The seafood appetizers are, in my opinion, Papetto's real strength. Fresh, varied, and lightly prepared, they're a riot of flavors without ever being heavy, and they open your stomach for the following courses. I've tried the raw fish several times, and I must say the quality of the fish is exceptional: you can taste that it's been carefully chosen. The cooked dishes are also fabulous, with simple yet thoughtful combinations that enhance the natural flavor of the sea without overpowering it. Every bite seems to tell a different story, and that's rare. The mussels deserve a special mention: simply fantastic. The broth they're served in is unforgettable. It's balanced, light yet flavorful, with a final touch that makes you want to mop up every last drop. The first courses are equally extraordinary, maintaining simplicity and complexity at the same time, with that common denominator: fresh ingredients. It's clear that behind them is a particular attention to detail and the harmony of flavors. The atmosphere is simple, welcoming, and refined, unpretentious but with a warm feeling that immediately puts you at ease. There's nothing forced: it's almost like dining at the home of friends who love to cook well and share their passion. Ultimately, Il Papetto is one of those restaurants that makes you want to return again and again. I recommend it to anyone who loves fresh fish, authentic flavors, and the pleasure of being pampered by attentive and sincere service. For me, it's become a go-to in Rome, a place where I know I'll eat well and leave satisfied. My recommendation, of course.

Luca and the great Pietro (creator of a fantastic minestrina and thanks again for your availability) are able to make anyone feel at ease... the quality of the food can't even be said FRESH FISH IS FRESH, but every time it's a pleasant surprise. The potato soup, bacon, mussels, prawns, an explosion of flavours, the first courses are always excellent and the grilled food is really, really good... the divine desserts, the cassola and the zabaglione dessert with vermouth from FEAR GOOD CELLAR WITH AN EXCELLENT SAUVIGNON LA BUSE FROM LOF. 11/10/2025: Alessandro and Alessandra have always been my go-tos. And not just for the varied raw fish dishes unlike anywhere else in the world. The location is enchanting, the staff is exceptionally friendly, and the owners often come to the table to check the opinions of those enjoying their dishes. The wine list is amazing. If there is a God of Taste, then he lives here.

19/10/2025: Every restaurant has its own approach. If you want a menu where, for example, you charge €2.50 for a coffee or a bottle of tap water, that's fine. Or expensive entrees, that's fine. But then the service and the location must be top-notch. Instead, the tables are packed and there's no room for anyone to pass, with those at the next table sitting with you. The server is clearly struggling. As for the entrees, the bill... everything is so difficult.

16/10/2025: My dear readers, unfortunately, today I won't be able to surprise you, and I'm truly sorry about that! Assuntina restaurant located in Testaccio, Rome, really disappointed me, as so many of you have read my recommendations!! Now over 200,000 and it makes me happy because I remain a suitable critic to tell only the truth! The raw materials, the fish, are fresh, yes, but there is no way that in the heart of Rome they don't know how to cook because the chef is not up to the task!!!! We are in Rome and you have to have Italian cuisine; the prices are disproportionate!!!! The fried cod was light and delicious, the chickpea sauce was a heavy mass, dry and stringy, the fried anchovies were tender but overcooked, and even the fried food needs to be cooked at the right temperatures, and the orange mayonnaise was heavy!!!! We're not there yet! Now comes the best part!!!! The risotto with cream of scampi (worth the trip just for the fresh and giant scampi)! ...Inedible, it tasted only of spiced cream at €25, mind-blowing! The spaghetti with clams had sand in it and the pasta was clumps and salty, the ravioli made by them were rejected because they were too tall, too stuffed, dry and undercooked! The Gewurztraminer wine was good, but an €8 wine can't cost €25 as it wasn't a DOC. I'll post a photo of the wine in question later! And then, dear readers, you know that I come from the sea and on certain things I just can't overlook!!!! When you taste the best, you can't go back and make it worse, and today I found myself truly disappointed, and a piece of advice I give to the owner of the Assuntina restaurant is: modernize the place a bit and hire a good chef, it's all in the kitchen, you need the basics!!!! Compliments to the waiting staff, very attentive, precise and polite, for them a Bell 8 on the report card! And as always, love to all of you! Romina.
15/10/2025: I ordered a risotto with mixed seafood and a small beer. The seafood was stinky especially the mussels. I reported to the waiter but he insisted that it was normal. The napkin was not clean as well (could be a footprint or whatever I don’t know) Not the best seafood you can find in Rome, I don’t think I will come back again.
