12/11/2025: I can't speak highly of the food at this delicious restaurant because...we didn't have time to try it! My partner was taken ill, and the waiters, and especially the owner, were nothing short of exceptional. They were available to drive me to the hospital and pick me up until late in the evening, well beyond their working hours, and were always available to help. We will forever be grateful to them.

08/11/2025: Upon arrival, the host warmly welcomed us. He created a pleasant experience in the restaurant, making us feel immediately at ease. The food was absolutely delicious. We only had pasta because we weren't very hungry, but we regretted not being able to sample more. We were also served delicious wine.

02/11/2025: Family dinner (6 people) on a Saturday evening. The service was prompt and accurate despite the room being full. The dishes were typical of Lucanian cuisine and absolutely impeccable. The price was average. The location is quaint and clean, inside the baronial castle. Highly recommended!

26/10/2025: We were passing through and were greeted with extreme kindness—it may seem obvious, but it isn't. The owner found us a seat even though we hadn't booked and the restaurant was full (two birthdays). Great attention to local products and the cuisine (run by his wife) is truly excellent, with a touch of experimentation. Very fair prices for the quality of the products used, and a comfortable atmosphere. It's a shame we can't become regulars due to the distance, but if we were to visit again, we wouldn't hesitate to return. I highly recommend it, both for the food and for the heartwarming, genuine smiles.

05/11/2025: Like everything in Matera, the best thing about it is the atmosphere, which is fantastic. The locally sourced beef was cooked to perfection and tasted good, but it was quite fibrous. The selection of meats and cheeses is worthwhile. The sausage with potatoes is a kind of chorizo ​​criollo, but with an anise-flavored spice that overpowers the meat's flavor. The formaggie cheese was very good. As I said, the best thing about it all was the atmosphere.

02/11/2025: A pleasant lunch break at Osteria L’Arco. We opted for a simple meal of pasta. The “Troccoli con baccalà alla materana,” a regional specialty, was particularly enjoyable. Troccoli, typical of Puglia, are thick, slightly square pasta, perfect for holding sauce. Here, they were served with flavorful baccalà and a rich, tangy sauce. The service was attentive and the setting charming, especially on the terrace overlooking the narrow streets of Matera.

25/10/2025: We were passing through on the Basentana highway and I was looking for a restaurant for a quick lunch. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent, 10 stars.

06/11/2025: In my humble opinion, one of the top three restaurants in the entire region. The food is excellent (very varied and thoughtful appetizers), generous first courses, and incredibly high-quality meat-based second courses. The atmosphere is a dream. The wait staff is professional, especially Mimmo, an excellent host who takes great care of his guests. The quality/price ratio is reasonable. Rotondella, a wonderful little village.

04/11/2025: Great Basilicata’s food experience. Our menù was simple like traditional Basilicata food, yet sooo good. Frizzuli and Cruschi are the must-try dishes to have a glimpse of the taste of Basilicata. Prices were super honest, quantities more than average and the service was rustic like the one you can have at home. Really, a place which deserves to be visited, maybe more than once!

07/11/2025: Terrible, negative experience. Poor food, made by someone who definitely doesn't know how to cook, but only knows how to throw together ingredients at random. Tasteless and unappealing dishes, but expensive. Yes, that's right!!! 18 euros for 4 pieces of drained cod and "seasoned" with 2 olives, tomatoes, and potatoes thrown in randomly, just so we don't waste them. We had a basket of bread brought back, just to eat something. After a 4.5-hour drive to Matera, it wasn't what we expected. Not to mention the welcome. The girl who took our order should change jobs and be more respectful and less hasty and annoyed. She's neither beautiful nor friendly, but she makes up for it in arrogance. Customers are treated with condescension, haste, and reluctance. A PLACE TO FORGET. Such blessings, of having a place that works, should happen to others. The "ladies" who run this place should experience what it's like to be on the other side. Who knows... It could come true.

05/11/2025: Trattoria on the edge of the city center (Sassi). Welcoming and attentive staff. Be careful, they don't take reservations; you just walk in and wait your turn. Fantastic food; we had an appetizer and two first courses. We really enjoyed it. We'll definitely be back!

11/10/2025: The food was very good, and the service was also friendly. It was supposedly outside, but no one else was smoking. The only thing missing was the nervous owner, who was moving from table to table, trying to watch the game on his tablet with poor internet, chain-smoking. ugh.

27/10/2025: We had dinner with a couple of friends at this restaurant on the recommendation of our host in Matera. It was a truly positive experience. The restaurant is well-kept, and we were looked after by a very kind and helpful waitress, who also gave us recommendations. The traditional dishes were truly excellent, and the portions were generous. Highly recommended!

06/10/2025: We had a great dinner there with a friend who lives in Rotondella. She said it was the best and we totally agree. It is a family run restaurant and they were ready to give us some of the local delicacies. We had the antipasto platter, then specialty pie called L’Patizz, one stuffed with pork the other potato and green peppers. Then dried and then quickly fried red peppers, called peperoni cruschi - very tasty and crunchy. We also tried the local pasta Frizzole co middiche. The pasta is hand rolled and curled with an iron rod. The chef came out to talk to us and it was a very friendly place. A very enjoyable evening.

31/08/2025: We ate on a panoramic terrace with a spectacular view. Excellent sausage, eggplant, salad, and ricotta tart. We returned two days later. Same table, same view. Falagoni calzone with potatoes and onions as an appetizer. Frizzuli as a first course: handmade pasta with a mixed meat tomato sauce and breadcrumbs. Ricotta and chocolate tart. Everything was excellent, and the lady serving the tables was very friendly.

01/11/2025: A restaurant in the heart of the Murgia Materana, excellent food and good prices, saving you a few euros compared to others on the same street. The restroom is clean despite the busy streets. You can eat inside or outside on the panoramic terrace. They don't accept lunch after 2:30 PM; I recommend arriving at 12:30 PM. After 1:00 PM, the number of people arriving is at a peak, although they do arrive fairly quickly.

31/10/2025: An absolute disgrace. The only reason I ended up here was because everything else was closed for siesta — and what a punishment that turned out to be. I honestly have no idea how this dump has a high rating. Every dish was an insult to the ingredients it was made from. It takes real “talent” to ruin food this badly. Whoever is in that kitchen shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a stove — they clearly have zero respect for taste, or for the people they’re serving. The salad was borderline edible (and still too acidic), but the rest was a complete disaster. If this is considered acceptable cooking in Italy, then the country’s entire culinary reputation is in serious trouble. This place is a tourist trap of the worst kind — disgusting, overpriced, and shameless. I left furious and offended that this kind of garbage is being sold as food.
