16/05/2026: We stopped for lunch at random at this unassuming spot. As luck would have it they were open to host a birthday party for a local family’s nonna. Our good fortune, as we were treated to an amazing selection of antipasti, pasta, home made wine and digestivi. Everything made by the charming chef with love and enthusiasm, for a very modest price. We left with overly full stomachs and the desire to return and stay a night or two in Aradeo. One of the most memorable meals in our 6 weeks in Puglia.

17/08/2025: Nothing to complain about the location; it's cute and informal, but this place, even though it's desolate, has its charm. The meat is very good, and the prices are average for the quantity and quality. The only flaw is the €13 grilled meat, which is paltry in its composition. It's listed as weighing about 400 grams. The capocollo, which wasn't there, must have been a maximum of 150 grams cooked and compensated for by adding a mini-bombetta and a sausage. I'd recommend revising it and making it more substantial. As for the side dishes, the quality/price ratio is exceptional.
15/08/2025: I'm a meat lover, so I wasn't familiar with this place. It was a great surprise. I like the location, it's pleasant. The staff is very friendly, and the food is divine. Finally, a place with zero food miles.
The only downside? They'll close in August and reopen in October. I think they could definitely stay open until the end of September.
A place worth trying, highly recommended.

15/05/2026: Polite staff, delicious dinner in the attached restaurant, breakfast nothing special. However our stay was badly let down by the infrastructure - whether that of the hotel or the city, I am not sure.
On four occasions we had no water supply in the bathroom, at inconvenient times for several hours at a time. We were told that it was a supply problem in the old city.
If the outer hotel door mechanism hasn't been fixed, be prepared to slide the doors manually. A minor problem, but not a great first impression as you roll up with your suitcases.The building is definitely quirky, a refreshing change from anodyne chain hotels. Plenty of character, and stairs.
Good location for exploring the old city, and making a dash to see the sunset. Short walk (via a pedestrian only ramp access, a little to the west of the hotel) from the harbour car park (€10 daily rate at time of visit) if you find a space. No need to enter the ZTL resident vehicle only zone, that covers the rest of the old city.
Our room was clean and spacious, with a comfortable bed. When the weather wasn't windy, we had a good harbour view. There is no facility to securely keep the shutters open, so they have to be closed in windy conditions (half of the trip) robbing the room of light and the view. Coat hooks somewhere in the room would be useful.
Our room's shower cubicle would be a challenge for larger folk. I am slim build, and kept hitting the shower controls.
If you are relying on public transport, be prepared to spend most of your time in Gallipoli rather than exploring the surrounding towns and countryside. Bus 108 to Lecce only runs mid June to mid September, despite anything that mapping apps tell you otherwise. The rail replacement bus took two hours between the two cities. First service of the day ran on time, but later in the day one service was nearly an hour late. A taxi between the two cities cost us €70.
As we only stayed for a short break, we were happy wandering around Gallipoli and out to the beaches. For a longer holiday, car hire would have been essential at this time of year. A shame, as the train service we used between Lecce, Brindisi and Bari seemed very efficient.
I hate not giving five star reviews, especially as Sara and Emanuela were very kind.
Couple, staying in a top floor room, half board for four nights, early May 2026.
13/05/2026: The difference in this structure is made by the staff who work there, dark rooms in a historical context, you have to adapt.

25/02/2026: Six of us sat down and after the blessing of the table and those present, a procession of 100% local delicacies took place: Burrata di Andria (PGI) with stracciatella made from stretched curd, parmigiana with ancient ragù, Sponsali (young and tender spring onions, elongated, with a white bulb, shredded and creamy), Seared beef fillets, Fried Bombette with seaweed and rosemary, Burnt wheat orecchiette with turnip tops and ... -last- (but first on our scale of appreciation)- bronze-drawn spaghettoni, square-section, cooked San Giuanniello style (100% Mediterranean, recipe not explained here, go there)! We couldn't order anything: young Antonio, the restaurant's key asset, brought everything, having chosen to stay here with us in the South (long applause). After lunch, he showed us the underground space beneath the restaurant: an incredible place, purchased and hand-dug by Antonio's father and family; meter after meter, it was an abandoned place filled with rubble and waste. A careful, flawless restoration; essential, understated; the result is an elegant, welcoming atmosphere; you feel part of the place's history. This is the Southern Italy we love. Greetings to Sergio, Domenico, Annibale (he takes notes but doesn't write, he delegates me now), Liberato, and Mario. WARNING: do not open the door at the back of Shoeshine's cellar: it leads to a hand-dug tunnel that leads to Canosa, and emerges (it is said) in front of the Cathedral of San Sabino, the arrival point of stage 14 of the Way of William.
05/02/2026: A quick business lunch, served even after 2 pm. Friendly staff, small but cute and pleasant place. We ate well, in good quantities, and at a fair price. A great deal!

Vincenzo, the owner of the restaurant, is a truly delightful person. We trusted him, and he gave us excellent advice. The wine list is also extensive and of high quality. Highly recommended if you want to eat well at a fair price!

14/02/2026: Small grill restaurant, efficient and very friendly staff. The €20 menu (drinks not included) includes a carpaccio appetizer, a charcuterie and cheese platter, and an excellent focaccia. The mixed grill was very good and plentiful. We'll definitely be back.
24/01/2026: Review: Disappointing experience (especially on a Saturday)
We visited this restaurant on Saturday night, but unfortunately, the experience wasn't the best. Here are the main reasons:
Too small space: The restaurant is definitely too small for the flow of customers it accommodates. You're crowded, the atmosphere quickly becomes chaotic, and you literally feel overwhelmed by the crowd. It's crucial they consider expanding.
Biblical wait times: We waited an hour just to order. Such a wait is unjustifiable, even considering the weekend peak.
Food quality: The most disappointing aspect was the horse meat, which unfortunately arrived very tough and difficult to eat.
Tip: If you really want to try it, definitely avoid Saturdays. Currently, the management of volumes and the quality of service aren't up to the level of the chaos it creates.

02/03/2026: I would have given a few more stars if it weren't for the poorly trained staff, in the sense that: they bring you the other dishes without removing the dirty plates, the food is okay but the chef needs to make peace with the salt, we kindly asked for the bill and without opening our mouths they presented it to us without even greeting or asking how the meal went.... it seems like they are doing you a favor by sitting at the table... never again... shameful
01/02/2026: Friends' recommendations are often highly subjective. They had "touted" this steakhouse as if it were the best in the world. Honestly, it was nothing special. We arrived, they sat us down at our table, ignoring us for almost half an hour, while people who had arrived after us were being served, so much so that I had to go to the waiter myself to get even a bottle of water. The meat was average, nothing extraordinary like the descriptions of those who recommended it to me. The waiters I would definitely not give an Oscar for friendliness to, and the prices, even those, were not exceptional. An experience not to be repeated.
