A few seconds later we see that they sell a piece of the same pizza to two foreign tourists. Two errors in the receipt complete the picture (doubled bottles of water and a dessert).

This is one of the oldest active bakeries in the world, with roots stretching back to the early 14th century – and the bread is still baked in a traditional wood-fired oven today. At the heart of the place are two amazing women, both over 80 years old, who still work in the oven every day. They are not only masters of their craft but also beloved social media profiles – and it’s easy to see why. Their warmth, charm and incredible skill create a unique atmosphere. The bread, especially the classic Pane di Altamura, is a taste sensation – with a crispy crust, chewy filling and an aroma that reveals the long tradition of wood-fired baking. Forno Santa Caterina is more than a bakery – it’s a living heritage where the flavours of history come to life every day. An absolute must for anyone wanting to experience the genuine Puglia.

22/05/2025: I must admit that I have never been to the Calvi restaurant and it was a truly pleasant discovery, a gastronomic experience that manages to combine elegance and simplicity with great balance. The cuisine is of the highest level, with attention to the smallest details both in the plating and in the flavors. Each dish tells a story of research and passion, thanks to excellent quality ingredients, fresh and carefully selected. The combinations are refined but never excessive, capable of enhancing the natural flavors without overloading them. The service is another strong point: friendly, present but never intrusive, with a staff always ready to recommend and explain with competence the dishes and the wines to pair. You feel pampered from start to finish. The atmosphere is relaxing and welcoming, perfect for both a romantic dinner and a lunch with friends. The environment manages to convey serenity, with an attention to detail that is also reflected in the furnishings and background music. Finally, the quality-price ratio is more than fair. Considering the quality of the ingredients, the mastery of the kitchen and the level of service, the bill is absolutely adequate and well balanced. In short, Calvi is a restaurant where you gladly return: to eat well, relax and feel welcomed. A round of applause to Donato for his passion. Highly recommended.

It’s exactly what happens when you enter their home: they open the doors to their home, welcome you with a smile and treat you like family. This is Calvi: warmth, passion, care. It’s one of those places where you don’t just go to eat well — even if, trust me, you eat like a god — but to live a moment. The place is elegant and welcoming, with large and comfortable spaces. But my favorite corner is near the pass, because from there I can see everything. The kitchen is completely open, a real theater where the show never stops. I could stay there for hours watching how they move, how they take care of every detail… and in fact, every now and then, my wife calls me to order! Chef Donato is young, but with an edge. He has a head, a heart and a lot of hunger (not just for cooking, but for growing): he studies, travels, puts himself to the test. He never stops. Angelica, on the other hand, is the sommelier you would always like to have at your table: brilliant, very friendly, knowledgeable. She reads inside you and can always recommend the right glass, even if you want to dare with a cocktail or a spirit. In the dining room there is also Domenica, sweet, smiling, who makes you feel immediately at ease. Their cuisine is lively, contemporary, but rooted in tradition. You can find meat, fish, vegetarian dishes, daily specials, new dishes every season... but always with a clear philosophy: seasonality, respect for the raw materials and zero waste. I have eaten some of the best dishes of my life at their place. And every time it is different, because the menu changes, the inspiration changes... but the quality never changes. And then there are the leavened products. Bread, focaccia, sandwiches, panettone, brioche: all made by them, with sourdough and selected flours. I often stop by just to get the freshly baked bread, because it is truly special. I close with desserts and ice creams… which are not just “good”. They are poetry. The ice creams are churned on the spot, the desserts are never banal. Calvi is not just any restaurant. It is a real experience, made of heart, technique, family and so much beauty. If you have the chance, go there. Let yourself be embraced.

24/05/2025: The food was very good, we ate two pizzas and some classic bruschetta (excellent) made with their bread, the pizzas were good and light, the dough was fabulous, the service was good, the price was average.

11/05/2025: Pizza assolutamente buonissima, ingredienti di qualità, leggera e prezzo qualità ottimo. È la nostra pizzeria preferita da sempre. Do 3 stelle solo per l'accoglienza pessima della signora, sembrava infastidita,seccata. Mi dispiace perché TUTTO IL RESTO TOP. Locale sicuramente tanto affollato però appunto per la sua bontà è sempre pieno.

09/05/2025: I often come to this wonderful place with my children and therefore I decided to celebrate the first communion of my twins on May 4th and I must say that it was a beautiful party, top location, top table service, top cleanliness, the staff, the owner, they are the top when it comes to the food, there isn't one thing that isn't good, everything they bring you as well as being their stuff and everything is excellent!!!!! If you want to spend a wonderful day or eat well or celebrate any event I recommend you go there you won't regret it and thanks again for the wonderful party we'll see you again soon.....

04/05/2025: I went last night, me and my friend. We sat down immediately, as I am celiac and lactose intolerant, I had the same sandwich described on the menu but obviously gluten-free. Very good, I took the g1😍😍. I will definitely come back we spent €14 each with a sandwich and drink. Obviously for me the chips were baked, but they're not good anyway. The service was also excellent, quick and kind

The staff is quick and friendly and the menu offers an excellent variety of pizzas and other options. However, considering the high competition of pizzerias in Altamura and having tried many of them, I must admit that the taste of the pizza did not fully satisfy me. Maybe I'll try it again in the future."
