16/02/2025: ⭐ 1 Star – Disappointing Experience If you enjoy waiting endlessly for your food, struggling to get a waiter’s attention, and being served the wrong dishes at every stage of your meal, then Il Clandestino might be for you. Unfortunately, for those of us who expect even basic hospitality, it’s an overpriced disaster. Even with an advance reservation. Our dinner took an excruciating 2.5 hours, with each course arriving at a glacial pace. The staff were impossible to flag down, and when the food finally arrived, it was wrong every single time. When we politely pointed this out, instead of an apology, the chef’s response was arrogant and dismissive, telling us that if we wanted “express dining,” there were 120 other restaurants in Stresa to choose from. A baffling attitude for a place charging these prices. Fine dining doesn’t mean slow, inattentive service and inflated prices for the privilege of being ignored. Stresa has plenty of fantastic restaurants—unfortunately, this is not one of them. Note: you will see the owner (chef) has responded below. One cannot add any words to this. His attitude and contempt for customers is self evident in his response. Some people are just better off not being in any service business.

08/02/2025: What can I say, a dinner that was an experience. Fish cuisine, refined and good dishes, but above all which express the personality of the chef, smart and very friendly. Excellent cellar and excellent suggestions also on the right wines to pair with the dishes. Location in the centre, very welcoming and well maintained. Cost in line, definitely worth it.

21/11/2024: The best sandwiches in the area, from classic to vegetarian. They are all made with fresh local products and with excellent combinations. The owner Luca is nice and kind to me, he treats me very well and is available in case of requests.

19/10/2024: Congratulations to the Manager! Guy... nice, kind and polite! Location..very nice, colorful and particular! Even relaxing...eating an excellent sandwich with live music in the center of Stresa...listening to it from the particular balcony of this place! I'll tell you more.. you can eat a sandwich of any size you want.. And above all you are a stone's throw from the lake...and the pier...special!! Bravo!! Here are photos of the sandwiches.. they are not needed.. they are good.

25/02/2025: Excellent food, and even more amazing service!! The pizza is one of the best I have ever had! The gnocchi as well. Mattia is one of the best waiters I have ever seen, so eneregized and friendly, made the experience 100x better.

21/02/2025: It wasn't that difficult to find, from the outside it doesn't look like a restaurant, but inside everything changes, once we discovered it we came for three days for both lunch and dinner. I recommend you book. Hospitality, professionalism, education, speed and cleanliness are its strong points. There's nothing I didn't like. Suitable for anyone for dinners or business lunches, birthdays and as a couple. Well done everyone, excellent value for money. We will definitely be back.

04/12/2024: Il Vicoletto est pour nous un lieu incontournable de Stresa lorsque nous recherchons une trattoria familiale de qualité. Tout y est frais et savoureux. L'accueil est chaleureux et bien loin de la médiocrité des restaurants de la Piazza Cadorna.

07/11/2024: Nice small place, massive wine list. Only negative was the over the top €3pp cover charge, and the possibility of recycling the "bread in the bag". That looks suspicious.

01/03/2025: Two people used it for lunch. It's a comfortable store. We had a mixed fish appetizer, carbonara-style risotto, braised veal, and pork with bean sauce. All of them are well seasoned and delicious.

31/12/2024: On the recommendation of friends we went to this pub. Great place and really nice place. You can breathe the legendary atmosphere of the 80s! The very kind owner hosted our entire group, even anticipating the opening time! Delicious sandwiches and top beers. Stop even just for a beer if you pass through Stresa.

21/02/2025: Extremely positive experience from almost every point of view: impeccable service, splendid, clean structure... a true luxury hotel, with a capital T. More than abundant breakfast, discreet restaurant, competent staff always available to satisfy any type of request. I didn't love the spa being so crowded (but it's understandable since we went on Valentine's weekend and there were a lot of people) and overall I didn't find it to be great for the services it offers. The only flaw, if I really have to find one, was the check out: we asked the receptionist (a gentleman, I dare say, not very young) if we could pay by instant bank transfer and, despite being very annoyed, he replied with a sad "yes", he presented us with the POS to pay by card, pretending nothing had happened... an unprofessional and I would even say impolite attitude given that by now in 2025 we should understand that both payment methods are similar for security and speed of reception... in short we felt a little uncomfortable, but it doesn't matter. For the rest, it is absolutely worth staying there at least once in your life.

04/12/2024: Nous n'avions pas eu l'occasion de manger à Il Verbano depuis que l'auberge a été reprise par le chef Marco Sacco. Ce fût chose faite en avril 2024 lorsque nous y avons à la fois déjeuné et dîné. Pour déjeuner, nous avons choisi un menu léger. Pour dîner, nous avons pris un des 4 menus proposés. Notre seul regret est de ne pas avoir pu déguster les 4 menus. L'accueil est impeccable, la cuisine à la hauteur de la réputation du chef et le cadre tout simplement magique

The +: impeccable service and magnificent setting The -: very high prices at first glance but why not the menu is promising. Very disappointed, the starters are tiny, the first course for me is a pasta stew with a few mussels and a few potatoes. Well presented but it's still pasta at €96, the menu is inappropriate. 2nd course fish without accompaniment… dessert ok. In summary, an experience that does not live up to the prices and the promise of the presentation of the menus.

20/02/2025: Super positive experience from every point of view. 5 star service, food and location; the chef manages to rework simple dishes making them refined... each ingredient has a specific "role" within each dish and nothing is put by chance, creating an impeccable balance of flavours. No pre-cooked or prefabricated preparations are used, the chef does everything himself. Excellent service, Sara is very kind and very professional. What can we say about the owners, Debora and her husband (great restaurateurs and beautiful people) immediately put us at ease, making us feel at home; we had the privilege of meeting the chef at the end of dinner and we talked to him about his modus operandi, it was really interesting to listen to him. 04/11/2024: È uno di quei ristoranti che lasciano il segno. All interno trovi un ambiente molto curato e minimale. Il servizio è rapido e curato. Le pietanze sono un tripudio di sapori, difficile trovare difetti. Il prezzo è leggermente oltre la media dei ristoranti in zona, ma è contemplato dal fatto che c'è una cura nei dettagli non indifferente. Consigliato

08/01/2025: Livello più che da osteria. Bravo il cuoco, carbonara di lago e monte bianco mi resteranno nel cuore. Location bellissima e giovane cameriere, dall'aspetto e dai modi settecenteschi, davvero piacevole. Unica pecca la cantina in esaurimento, ma la stagione inizierà fra qualche mese... Bravi.
