10/11/2025: As soon as you sit down, you know you're in a temple of fine dining! Niko Romito is a genius in the kitchen! His sister in the dining room is his right hand! One waiter, however, was particularly arrogant...and a three-star establishment can't afford that! A customer has the right to eat as many dishes as he wants...after all, we traveled 800 km...just for dinner! It's a shame...but I also understand that trained staff aren't easy to find! Still, one of the best three-star establishments ever! Worth the trip!

09/01/2026: The dining room is very welcoming and meticulously decorated.
The staff is distinguished by their kindness, professionalism, and hospitality.
We ordered: breaded and fried primo sale cheese sticks, very good and not greasy; cheese and egg balls, delicious; ravioli, a first course, good but not exceptional; and meat arrosticini, good. A 37.5cl bottle of rosé wine and two tiramisu dishes, one classic, not very moist in my opinion, and one pistachio, very good. The bill was €80 for two, which I think is fair, considering it's located in a touristy area.

03/01/2026: I visited the "Materia Prima" restaurant. It's a place with meticulous attention to detail, elegant, refined, and welcoming.
I chose this restaurant for their tasting menu, which immediately proved to be an explosion of flavor and quality. The presentation of the dishes, paired with excellent wines, was nothing short of delightful.
I thank the chef and his entire staff for their culinary journey, who have brought expression and flavor to their dishes, which embody passion and creativity, as well as the use of top-quality ingredients.

02/11/2025: 5 stars is too few! We arrived very late for lunch due to a long hike, but they welcomed us with infinite kindness and helpfulness. The quality of the dishes served (tagliatelle with mushrooms and truffles, mixed grill and sausage, sautéed chicory) was excellent.
06/10/2025: Excellent food; try the tortelli with 4-cheese cream and walnuts and the gnocchi with ragù.
Vincenzo, the manager, and the owners are very kind. We returned two nights in a row.

17/01/2026: Nine of us had lunch here. The potato croquettes were cooked on the outside but raw on the inside. The staff was inexperienced. Tiramisu was definitely not recommended (like the gentian one). The pasta was overcooked and the carpaccio was frozen and tasteless.
If you want to eat here, get Montepulciano red wine and really good arrosticini.

06/01/2026: The best-stocked and most welcoming bar in Castel di Sangro. The coffee is decent, as are the desserts. Spacious space with both indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the Sangro River.
Ample parking across the street.

29/04/2025: Un'ottima pizza 🍕 quella offerta da La Lanterna. Base ampia e sottile, impasto leggero e digeribile, condimento adeguato. Di qualità anche i dolci 🍮.
Bello il locale, comode le sedie e ampi i tavoli tondi. Un'arma a doppio taglio la presenza dell'area cucina e forno ♨️ a vista che rende l'ambiente piacevole d'inverno, caldo d'estate.
Bene il servizio, prezzi abbastanza in linea con i tempi; difficile ormai uscire con meno di 30€ anche da una pizzeria (bruschette divise, pizza, birra 🍺 e dolce).

02/01/2026: The wait was so long that the waitress told us she'd forgotten about us...
The dishes were generous but the quality was extremely poor. I found a few pieces of broccoli in the mushroom pasta, probably because they were turned with the same utensil. It's a shame because the owner is also nice, but the whole place looks dirty and run-down.
1 main course (sliced steak with arugula), 1 plate of mushroom pasta, and 1 bottle of water, total bill €35...

09/11/2025: A small but very welcoming place, decorated with photos of the old Castello. The staff is friendly and ready to explain the various dishes on the menu. The chef is friendly and skilled. There's a wide selection of appetizers, including the cheese and egg balls. The menu also offers a decent selection of first courses, main courses, and side dishes. The wine list is good, especially the Montepulciano di Abruzzo, and the prices are average.
14/10/2025: A welcoming, rustic-style restaurant with beautiful photos and reproductions of paintings by Teofilo Patini. The food was well-prepared. The appetizers and arrosticini were excellent, but everything was delicious.

01/09/2025: This piadina shop was recommended to us by the owner of the hotel where we stayed. The piadina is excellent, prepared by the owner, who is truly talented. We also had amatriciana and carbonara, both freshly prepared and the best we've ever had. The charcuterie board was also delicious. The owner and his two daughters were incredibly welcoming. Excellent value for money. We'll be back!

01/12/2025: A typical Castel di Sangro restaurant, rustic in style, serving good-quality, freshly prepared, traditional cuisine. It's not a huge restaurant, but there are outdoor tables. I recommend choosing from the many meat specialties and pasta dishes with rich, flavorful sauces. Located in the historic center of town. Prices are reasonable. Book ahead.
03/11/2025: A place without too many expectations. Classic home cooking, everything well-cooked: fresh pasta made on the spot, cheese and egg ballotte (perhaps more bread and egg), good grilled caciocavallo, average arrosticini, and dessert: a classic crunchy parfait.
A positive note was that they kindly seated us at 2:45 PM without a reservation and with two small dogs, which is not something you'd find at many restaurants in the area. Recommended!

09/02/2025: La nuova gestione del ristorante, già conosciuto come Antica Neviera, si pone in primo piano nel panorama gastronomico della valle del Sangro. In un contesto dove l’offerta della ristorazione tipica è molteplice e di gusto, la mancanza di una realtà che tratti anche le specialità di mare con armonia e competenza era evidente. L’Antica Neviera sopperisce a questa mancanza con amore e innovazione, integrando con piatti ricercati di specialità di mare il menù tipico abruzzese. Accoglienza amichevole e attenta in un contesto ben curato, servizio veloce e professionale. Buona cantina dei vini e dolci di produzione propria. Rapporto qualità prezzo giusta, proseguite così!!!
