07/09/2025: La Baita was a pleasant confirmation, the owner was extremely kind, and the staff was knowledgeable.
They immediately set up a table inside because it was a bit chilly in the evening... but let's talk about the food! Excellent!
The Aieta ham is always a guarantee of delicacy, the ricotta is top-notch, the pasta is all homemade, the tomato ravioli are delicate and delicious, as is the lagane (tagliolini) with local chickpeas... It's definitely worth the drive up to this village... a restaurant open all year round that "consoles" you with its food culture. P.S. Sorry for the photos... we dusted everything...

20/08/2025: Beautiful restaurant with amazing food, I brought my mom here and she speaks no Italian and I am still learning. I thought there would be a physical menu, so I had trouble keeping up with the Italian of the waitress and owner but she was incredibly nice and understanding and even used Google translate on her phone to help us order our first course which was very kind and thoughtful of her. We were unfortunately too full to order second courses but the desert was also amazing. Service and food were all fantastic! I'd love to come back again with a bigger group, and when my Italian is improved!

The meatballs are flavorless, the first course is bland, and the second course I chose (stuffed squid) was a disappointment.
The owner is very nice, but in my opinion, they need to raise the bar a bit or lower the prices to justify it all.

18/09/2025: My partner and I went here for my birthday dinner. What can I say? We had a truly wonderful time. I've been coming to Scalea for years and had always heard good things about it, and now that I've finally been there, I can only confirm that it's perhaps the best place for miles around. The dishes are truly tasty and anything but predictable, simple yet elaborate. The staff was truly kind and made the evening truly special! Thank you! We'll definitely be back!

29/08/2025: An authentic Calabrian experience in the heart of Cantinelle. "La Cantina" is a family-run restaurant where tradition reigns supreme as soon as you enter. The simple, homey atmosphere is the perfect backdrop for authentic cuisine bursting with local flavors.
We enjoyed homemade dishes prepared with fresh, local ingredients: generous appetizers and homemade pasta reminiscent of grandma's cooking. The delicious antipasti and porcini mushroom pasta dishes are not to be missed. The house wine also accompanied the meal.
The hostess was extremely kind, helpful, and eager to passionately recommend the daily specials. It felt like eating at a friend's house, with the quality of a cuisine passed down through time.
A restaurant I highly recommend to anyone seeking authenticity, flavor, and Calabrian hospitality. We will definitely return.
24/08/2025: The bistro is a tranquil escape from the chaos of city life, embodying the essence of a truly slow-paced lifestyle. If you're in the area, it's the perfect place to savor traditional Calabrian cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients.
The hostess, La Signora, the waitress was incredibly kind to us. After seating us at the table, she promptly offered some delightful bread, including a spicy bread with peperoncino. The restaurant has only five tables, so it's advisable to make a reservation in advance.
The antipasto is a must-try, featuring a selection of typical dishes that allow you to enjoy a variety of delicious flavors. We decided to go straight to the second course, but the pasta and first course options looked so tempting that we couldn't resist ordering a bowl of pasta and fagioli.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we will definitely be back. Bravi!

Sometimes on a Saturday night you like to be surprised: too bad, everything was discounted... not with the prices, though, which were completely normal.

29/09/2025: The "Vecchia Guardia" restaurant clearly aspires to a luxury category, but it is light years away from understanding the fundamental needs of its guests. Our dinner experience for four on August 21, 2025, was a complete failure, especially regarding food allergies.
Lack of Seriousness about "Gluten Free"
We booked specifically because the website guaranteed availability for allergens, including gluten-free. Once seated, the unpleasant surprise: my wife, a celiac, was categorically denied any dish, including a simple slice of grilled meat. The only option was bottled water! This isn't "willingness to accommodate any need," but a clear example of misleading advertising aimed solely at attracting customers.
Small Portions and Mediocre Quality
The dishes were somewhere between meager and mediocre, with a presentation that was meant to mimic that of a "starred chef," but I'll leave you to imagine... with a quality that was, let's say, mediocre. The small quantity is unacceptable unless supported by an excellence that was totally absent here.
The Bill: The Height of Negligence
The highlight was the bill. Not only did they add a cover charge to my wife, who, through their negligence, was unable to eat anything, but, even more seriously, they included two dishes that were never served due to a clear oversight in the service. We had to point out the error to the waiter (who crossed out the amounts) and then again to the cashier, where the person in charge had not yet crossed out the missing side dishes, leaving the restaurant at 10:33 PM after the complaint.
Disconcerting Service
Finally, the service was disconcerting to say the least. The waiters and the lady kept bringing bread and other gluten-containing dishes right in front of my celiac wife. This is a total lack of care and professionalism, especially after being informed of her celiac disease.
To describe the experience as "disappointing" is an understatement. It was unacceptable. I hope anyone reading this review will appreciate how carelessly this restaurant handles its promises and the basic needs of its customers.

The value for money was excellent. We absolutely recommend it! If we ever find ourselves here on vacation, we'll be back! Thank you for the quality of the food and your professionalism!
