13/06/2026: Update: the manager pulled me aside for a chat. It was strange but at least showed he very much cared. I’ve updated my rating as such, but maintain that you are paying essentially double what you might elsewhere, for the view. If you’re happy to do that, you’ll be happy here. Beyond the genuinely stunning views, this place is really nothing special. The rooms are very basic, but they’re charging a premium price for what’s outside the window. The maid and cleaning service is great (but be warned laundry is very expensive though that’s not uncommon). It’s all just adequate. Not really any particularly special amenities. Not carefully designed (at least compared to many other hotels I’ve stayed at in the country). Very spotty WiFi which I thought was just the area but the public WiFi worked better in Monterosso. The parking was a nightmare and they do not provide useful instructions for finding it. If this was a $300-$400 a night hotel, it would be perfect; but it’s a $700-$800 a night hotel and is thus in my opinion, overpriced. If you plan on exploring the area, you can get the same views for free (or even for dinner) and skip the hefty price tag. Regarding staying in Portovenere. It’s beautiful, obviously. Stunning. As are the other 5 cities and at least 2 have a bit more going on and a lot more convenience. Portovenere is near impossible to get to after 9pm (for the price, it would be ideal if the hotel would offer some sort of shuttle service even for an extra cost). It’s clearly a perfect city for weekenders looking to escape most of the tourism (though a surprising amount still exists here). But maybe not for first-timers to the area looking to explore. Overall, fine hotel, but it just isn’t bringing the value it requests.

07/06/2026: We spent two days in Portovenere and on Sunday we needed luggage storage: the only service in town wasn't available. We asked the Grand Hotel for a favor—aware that it doesn't officially offer storage—simply because, with two backpacks, we wouldn't be able to enjoy the day at the beach. After several initial refusals, we managed to convince the staff that they would hold our bags for a few hours. At that point, however, the response was: "Okay, we'll do it for you, but only if you leave us 50 euros." This request, we consider excessive for a temporary and unscheduled favor, was striking. Besides the disproportionate price, we were struck by the total lack of courtesy: we would have expected at least a helpful and understanding attitude toward two tourists who simply wanted a morning on the beach.

19/04/2026: We had a great time at the restaurant, lots of choices, and the food was excellent. The staff was fantastic. 👍🏼

07/04/2026: Terrible experience!! Avoid at all costs! You're only paying for the location; otherwise, the food and service are zero. The pizza had very few toppings. The seafood pizza had no cheese, just a few pieces of seafood and tomato sauce. Very expensive for nothing.

06/04/2026: That was the worst service experience ever in 40 years of travelling. After we were pointed in a certain direction by a not so friendly waiter, we (a family of four) came in, sat down to have a few drinks and some gelato....a lady with long black hair came to our table, didnt greet us, didnt look us in the eye, didnt show any will to serve us or any manners at all...so we left. Shame on you and that kind of service. Who do you think you are ? Ridiculous.

11/10/2025: I was out walking the dogs at Gaiazza and it was getting late, I called and asked if we could eat something... Despite the time and the 4 dogs they told me to go anyway... They were very kind and helpful.. and I ate a delicious plate of trofie with pesto!!!

25/06/2026: Divine ! I thoroughly enjoyed my prawn bisque pasta and the flavours of mums calamari dish we so unique and well balanced. We also shared a delicious ‘salad’ which was half a lettuce topped with sauced and olives etc - not something i have had before but very delish. The staff were friendly, serving ware and venue were premier and of course you can’t beat the view.

24/06/2026: It was pretty expensive and the portions were to small for this price. Even 3.50€ for Cutlery.

29/04/2026: For my 36th birthday, my girlfriend treated me to lunch at this restaurant, which has a breathtaking location overlooking the sea. The staff was very kind, polite, and professional. In my opinion, all the food was exquisite and meticulously prepared, as you'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber. I found the raw fish to be truly excellent (photo attached).

21/04/2026: I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! This was a complete disaster and the worst experience imaginable. I chose this restaurant for a birthday celebration, expecting a decent level of service and cuisine, but I received the complete opposite. Everything went wrong from the start: the table was set late, the staff was absent or ignored guests, and the service was chaotic and unprofessional. Dishes were either not served on time or not served at all. What I did manage to try was frankly tasteless and did not meet any expectations – neither in quality nor presentation. It felt like the restaurant was simply not ready to host guests, let alone host an event. The most frustrating thing was the complete lack of oversight from management. No one attempted to rectify the situation, apologize, or offer a solution. As a result, an important day with high expectations was ruined. I absolutely do not recommend it. This place does not meet the stated level or basic service standards!!!!!

01/06/2026: Great atmosphere right by the sea. We were there for a quick aperitif and would definitely come again. Good value for money.

20/06/2026: We stopped for a coffee with our baby so we could use the restroom, and the service was terrible.

14/06/2026: For a long time, it was one of my favorite cafes for breakfast or a lunchtime snack. After about six years, I returned with friends, and everything had changed: the outside tables weren't clean, the staff were inattentive and extremely cold, and the cheese focaccia was skimpy. Maybe I was unlucky or came on the wrong day, but the disappointment was significant.

08/05/2026: We had a very good meal, the staff were particularly friendly. Beautiful view of the harbor. A very good place to eat.

06/05/2026: We had lunch there and ordered two types of pasta: penne and Alfredo spaghetti. The spaghetti was incredibly rich. We also ordered a fried chicken strip, which was delicious. The only downside is that it's charged 5 euros per person, plus there's a tax on every order. They could have just offered one of the two. And I thank Ms. Nisreen for her excellent service.
