05/06/2026: We got a table even without a reservation, despite the restaurant being almost full twice. The pasta and pizza were perfect, and the price-performance ratio was good. Of course, a wait is unavoidable given the high demand. But you should have time for a meal on vacation!

04/06/2026: The food was good, although in my opinion there were too many onions in the pasta and the pizza had a bit too much cheese. The servers were friendly and attentive, but unfortunately, both dishes arrived at very different times. We sat outside during our visit, and we found the many flies annoying. In summary, the restaurant is certainly not bad, but there were a few things that could have been improved.

06/03/2026: A beautiful hotel that evokes a bygone era with modern comforts and refined cuisine. True expertise. The view is magnificent.

01/03/2026: Large, welcoming, and comfortable room. The bathroom was bright and clean. The cuisine was excellent and varied. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. It was also fun to cross the street to the relaxation area—also meticulously maintained—and to enjoy the view from the large window overlooking the valley while sipping a hot herbal tea. 20/02/2026: We had the cheese dumplings with salad from today's special. Absolutely delicious! To round it off, we also had the apple strudel with cream. We would definitely order both again. We'll gladly come back.

03/02/2026: Friendly and helpful staff.... Stunning location on the lakeside. On a negative note: We had two cutlets and fries on the side... ZERO rating €20 each! What a shame...

03/03/2026: Nice place, but we didn't manage to eat anything because we arrived at the busiest time when the bar is closed and the restaurant isn't open yet. But the worst thing was the owner's gruff and unfriendly attitude.

09/01/2026: Excellent bourguignonne. There was a bit of confusion with the reservation, and we were worried we wouldn't get it due to a mistaken cancellation, but we finally made it. Our only regret was having ordered the appetizer (mixed salami) on the recommendation to pass the extra wait, but it was worth the wait and enjoyed the main course, which was plentiful and we couldn't finish it.

25/02/2026: I don't like writing reviews, but this time I really feel the need. I hope I can be polite and objective enough so that anyone reading can form their own opinion. This morning we stopped by the Steinerhof to book a table for two for dinner. A very kind young woman greeted us and took our reservation. We returned for dinner and were greeted instead by a gentleman, perhaps a waiter, perhaps the owner, who claimed not to speak Italian. In English, I informed him of our reservation and he showed us to a side room. We ordered two bottles of water and a small beer in English. He brought us the water in two glasses. We asked for the bottle of sparkling water, which cost us a hefty €5.20. He also charged us for the glasses of water. We waited a good ten minutes before he brought us the menu, then the waiter disappeared. He reappeared to escort a group of locals who were leaving their table and ignored us. After a quarter of an hour, my husband decides to go to the main dining room, calling the Italian-speaking waiter's attention. He decides to come and take our order, which we still have to communicate in English or German. We order boiled potatoes (lightly cooked) with cheese and three dumplings with cabbage salad. We wait again for about a quarter of an hour, with the dining room completely empty. The picture of the dumplings I've attached to this review probably gives a good idea: completely dry and hard. The experience ends shortly afterward because we decide to go to the cashier to pay the bill ourselves. We had to explicitly ask for the receipt in Italian. This time, it seems the man understood. We won't be returning. Hostile.

07/03/2026: The local center of the universe. The complex has a restaurant, a minimarket, a ski service, a ski school, and a kids' club with supervised activities. Excellent organization.

15/02/2026: A very nice place with a wide selection of food. You can almost always find a seat on the terrace or inside. The selection of food and drinks is extensive. Burgers, pizza, pasta...

12/10/2025: We reached the Malga on foot on a sunny October morning. The view up there is spectacular. The Malga is welcoming and not very crowded at this time of year. We ate very well and peacefully, chatting with the guests and the owners. It was a shame to have to leave the place on the way back. Many compliments to Matteo for his excellent cuisine and his kindness.

14/12/2025: I stumbled upon this wonderful place quite by chance. A unique atmosphere meets fantastic, unobtrusive service and superb food. I had barley soup and venison ragout, and I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant!

23/06/2026: The ice cream was good, especially the pistachio. The only flaw was that I think the girl who served me had just recently joined the company. I'm a regular customer, and we ordered three cones, two medium and one large. I pointed out that the amount of ice cream in each cone was the same, and that was no different than not mentioning it. Another employee intervened, saying that she thought it was fine. I understand that there were quite a few people there, and perhaps responding like that would have helped her dismiss me immediately, but denying the obvious when the cones were in front of her really annoyed me.

04/06/2026: We've already been to Waldea (formerly Waldschänke) four times this year and left delighted every time. The quality of the food is consistently excellent. We can wholeheartedly recommend the carpaccio and the dumpling duo – both were delicious and beautifully presented. But what truly makes Waldea special for us is the warm hospitality. The waiters and managers are exceptionally attentive, friendly, and always in good spirits. You feel welcome and well taken care of from the very first moment. We're already looking forward to our next visit and can recommend Waldea to anyone who appreciates good food, a beautiful atmosphere, and genuine South Tyrolean hospitality.

01/06/2026: The location is almost unique. A stunning view over Merano and the surrounding mountains. The food was superb. Excellent South Tyrolean cuisine. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to take a break on the Marlinger Forest Trail. Of course, they also offer coffee and sweets.
