01/04/2026: Excellent food, a relaxed atmosphere, and friendly staff. The portions aren't large, but they're excellent. Try the black truffle tartare and the soups, which are both delicious and unique. The prices are a bit high for some dishes, but the experience is definitely positive.
21/03/2026: Very nice atmosphere. The dishes are very well prepared and delicious. The owner, who I believe served the tables, was very kind and helpful. A must-visit next time in Garfagnana.

31/03/2026: We were returning from Sienna to our hotel in Lucca and decided to check Google Maps for a place to have a quick dinner. Since we were close to Barga, Trovaposo showed up. Since it was around 7pm on a Thursday night, we decided to give it a try.
The place was pretty packed with locals and we were lucky to get a table. It was obvious that we were the only foreigners there. The owner was very friendly and when he realized that we didn't speak italian he made it a point to come over to ensure we understood the menu (one of his staff was taking care of us).
The pizzas we had were delicious and the way only italians make it -thin base and the right amount of toppings on it.
So glad we followed the recommendations on Google - we wouldn't have found it otherwise

17/12/2025: This ended up being my favorite dinner of our entire trip to Tuscany. The staff was incredible and genuinely accommodating. I even called from the U.S. to make our reservation. I tried my best Italian, they met me with their English, and somehow we understood each other perfectly.
This is clearly a place the locals adore, and it was evident the moment we walked in. I’m pretty sure we were the only tourists there, which made us love it even more. The menu was surprisingly available in English, though not everything made complete sense but that was part of the charm. Our server did a phenomenal job guiding us through the menu and offering thoughtful recommendations.
The pasta dishes were exquisite. My husband decided to be adventurous and ordered a mushroom pasta (despite hating mushrooms) and ended up absolutely loving it. My ravioli with sage was unforgettable. I still think about it.
I can’t quite pinpoint what makes Ristorante L’Altana so special. It’s a simple restaurant, nothing overly fancy, yet there was something about the food, the ambiance, and the beauty in its simplicity that made it stand out as the highlight of our trip.
12/12/2025: The maltagliati were excellent, but the tagliata was very salty, I couldn't finish it.

06/10/2025: A bar and restaurant where you can spend fun hours with friends. Friendly and excellent service from the staff (Barbara, Tiziana, and Adriana). Alessandro, the owner, is attentive, kind, and professional. I highly recommend it for breakfast, lunch, and aperitifs.

Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco Resort & Spa

04/04/2026: We stayed at the Renaissance Hotel for a week at the end of March and had a wonderful time. Admittedly, the hotel is a bit off the beaten track when it comes to popular tourist destinations like Pisa and Florence. However, it's situated in a quiet and beautiful location on a hilltop with stunning views across northern Tuscany. The tourist hotspots are easily accessible by car, making it a great base for exploring the area.
The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating at all times. I'd especially like to commend Giada and Claudio, who went above and beyond to attend to our needs throughout our stay.
The rooms are comfortable, clean, and spacious. The breakfast buffet is served daily from 7:00 to 11:00 and offers everything you could want; only additional egg dishes are available for an extra charge.
The hotel features a gym, a swimming pool, a sauna, and a steam room. All of these facilities were clean and spacious. In the summer, there's also an outdoor pool.
There was more than enough free parking available nearby, and additional parking is available at the hotel for a fee. Two charging stations and an emergency charging point are also available in the parking area.
The hotel is very spacious, both inside and out. If you're able to walk a lot, this isn't a problem, but people with limited mobility should be aware of this.
At the end of March, the hotel wasn't really full, which we really appreciated. It can certainly get busier during peak season.
For background information and to better understand this review – I stay in approximately 80 hotels worldwide each year. My Marriott Titanium Elite status was valued and appreciated at the Renaissance Hotel.
