18/03/2025: Best meal of our Italian trip. We arrived in Matera early evening on a Wednesday in March, a day when many restaurants are closed. Osteria San Francesco is a small family-run place, with a calm, modern, relaxing vibe. Excellent local dishes, which you can watch the chef prepare. We were the only guests in the restaurant that night. Lovely service, excellent value. I'd love to go back!

I am usually not adventurous at all when choosing food but as we are visiting friends who live in this town and they arranged a private meal with Chef Pepe
I said I would try everything
To say I was amazed at the flavour and deliciousness of each dish is an understatement
Each plate of food was amazing. Complex flavours and textures
Simply fabulous
Our server was attentive and a great laugh as she chatted with us
Chef Pepe came to our table several times to check on us
We finished with a standing ovation for such a wonderful meal
Note: I had some of the ravioli before the photo was taken. Too delicious not too

03/11/2024: Little place found by chance. Nice atmosphere and very welcoming and friendly owner. We had an appetizer based on black Angus carpaccio and Lucanian canestrato (excellent) and two first courses. Really satisfied

Ample parking at the back of the venue.

19/02/2025: Visitato per una cena di lavoro. Locale gradevole: non di lusso ma accogliente e caldo. Il proprietario è molto cortese ed aiuta nella scelta dei piatti. Il pesce, i molluschi ed i crostacei sono freschissimi e preparati con cura e qualità. Dunque ottime le materie prime ma egualmente ottima la professionalità in cucina (notare "a vista"). Carta dei vini non ampia ma con sufficiente possibilità di scelta (ricarico onesto). Porzioni direi generose. Il rapporto qualità prezzo è assolutamente corretto. Tornerò sicuramente.

17/02/2025: Excellent compliments and, to say the least, excellent service, delicious food, Tomas, a courteous and well-prepared boy.... I will have the opportunity to make up for it because due to gastroenteritis I didn't touch the food but my friends devoured everything 👍🤣
09/02/2025: It is located in Policoro and the Castle was located on a hill. Unguarded parking. Reachable by car. Spectacular view. Welcoming environment. Few and not very friendly staff. The food, however, is excellent. It is worth going and visiting it.

27/08/2024: Era da tempo che non ci godevamo una cena di pesce con tanta soddisfazione, oltre alla qualità e le porzioni veramente abbondanti, il servizio, tutto gestito in famiglia dalla cucina ai tavoli non è stato da meno, assolutamente da provare questa esperienza di impresa familiare personalmente quando rimango così soddisfatto il mio umore migliora.

09/01/2025: Encontramos este gran lugar por accidente! Es muy bonito, y la terraza tiene vistas al Saadi de Matera. Comimos maricón con bacala, puré favorito con gambas, orecchiette della nonna y cerdo con salsa de queso - combinaciones interesantes y todo delicioso. Un restaurante excelente, local; no demasiado turístico y no demasiado caro.

01/09/2024: Ci siamo andati per pranzo il 1 settembre 2024. Dopo piu di un’ora di attesa, senza pane sulla tavola, senza secchiello con il ghiaccio l’acqua e il vino sono diventati caldi e dopo tanti solleciti finalmente sono arrivati gli spaghetti cozze e vongole.
Il secondo è arrivato dopo un’altra mezz’ora.
Servizio pessimo , ma il mangiare era buono anche il vino bianco.
Peccato non ci ritorneremo piu’

31/12/2024: We ate at Mrs. Rita's for a whole week for lunch and dinner. We organized an awareness course on alcohol-related and complex problems in Bernalda.
She hosted us like at home, excellent cuisine, sometimes simple, other times more elaborate but always full of fresh and genuine products.

19/02/2025: A large, old restaurant. It was a little cold in the living room. We ordered a starter of cheeses and cold cuts and, as it was abundant, we then wanted to share a main dish but they told us that was not possible. The food was good. Average price for the area.
