17/05/2026: We benefitted from recommendations from our host at our accommodation and gave us 4 restaurants that locals rate highly with Trattoria dell’Orso being one of them. Again, a very popular restaurant where you should book at least a day in advance. We started by sharing a special tagliatelle ai asparagi with freshly made tagliatelle and sweet asparagus in a subtle cream sauce. A very nice dish to start. I then had the stuffed pigeon, a specialty of Orvieto from medieval times where the pigeons were raised in caves on the cliff edge. The pigeon was beautifully tender and the stuffing lovely. My wife had the salted cod in a chickpea puree which was very enjoyable. We shared a tiramisu that had a custard top rather than cream - very light and airy. The only disappointment was the house Orviet Classico which was a little sharp for our taste. Overall a lovely dining experience.

05/06/2026: We have eaten here on both of our stays in Orvieto, and for us. It’s a can’t miss stop! The service is excellent, the food is delicious and the ambiance is unmatched. We have dined in the grotto, which as amazing as, but this time we sat on the terrace up top and watched the sunset while taking in the best that Orvieto has to offer. Highly recommend!!

03/06/2026: I used to go with my parents in the 80s/90s from Salerno to Venice, it was a stop in Orvieto. We ate like a god, I miss this place, who knows if they are the same owners anyway, congratulations and I hope to return.

19/05/2026: Excellent dining experience. We had the Pappardelle with wild boar and sliced steak with truffles. Both dishes were delicious, nice hearty wild boar sauce and tender medium steak with tasty potatoes. Good desserts and wine too.

15/05/2026: Friendly owner, a warm shop atmosphere, and even super delicious pasta!!!! I think it's fresh pasta (just a guess), but the mushroom pasta was seriously so good!! It's not in a crowded area, but it's a short walk away!!! I highly recommend it~♡

04/11/2025: We had lunch here on our last day in Orvieto. We had focaccia with prosciutto, stuffed rabbit with a side dish, and pavlova. The food was very good, the place was very nice, and the service was attentive. Everything was great.

17/10/2025: We booked with The Fork. Excellent welcome. An unsolicited entree kicked off the meal. We asked for a carbonara with a pasta substitution, and they accommodated us without further ado. However, I found the carbonara a bit disjointed, although good. But my 10/10 goes to the Argentine Angus steak with soy sauce reduction. A stroke of genius.

17/05/2026: UPDATE: I’m updating my review after a change of heart. I at first felt I wanted to disregard my disappointment of this resort but after lack of care and accountability from the resort I thought I’d share. I’d first like to point out that the restaurant, their staff, chef, service and food were all five stars and excellent. The resort itself however lacked hospitality and any resemblance of luxury. Upon arrival we were horrified to fold over the sheets and find a smashed bug UNDER the covers. We then proceeded to check the rest of the bed in fear it was a bed bug later to realize a huge blood stain on the corner of the comforter. We immediately requested another room in a different building and were happy to be upgraded to a wellness suite although we still were weary of the cleanliness of the room and its lack of design. We had previously booked the cooking experience which was excellent and the staff was very accommodating. We left full with great food and wine and happy we experienced the resort. Until we checked out and realized that my suitcase handle had been broken with no way of collapsing it when it was working perfectly fine up until our departure when our bags were picked up from our room and taken to reception. I emailed the staff to notify them and instead was met with accusations of saying my suitcase was broken upon my arrival and complete denial of any carelessness. I am now left with having to replace my brand new $200 suitcase because my airline will not accept a suitcase that doesn’t collapse. I am deeply disappointed with the lack of professionalism that is to be expected with a luxury resort. I had thought they redeemed themselves from the bug and blood situation and even wrote them a good review (see below), until they blatantly denied and instead blamed me for my broken bag. We still enjoyed our experience but I would honestly just come for the day for the restaurant and wine and would pass on staying at the resort itself and save your money. Original review: We had a wonderful stay at Altarocca Wine Resort. The staff was incredibly friendly, responsive and accommodating. Location: The resort is about a 10 minute taxi ride from Orvieto or the train station which the resort was able to help arrange for us. The property itself is located in a beautiful and picturesque Italian countryside surrounded by vineyards and rolling landscape, perfect if you want that winery stay vibe. Food & Wine: The restaurant on property was incredible, hands down the best meal of our trip. It was fine dining with excellent service and fantastic execution with balanced yet sophisticated flavors at the right amount of complexity that was not too overwhelming. We went with the staffs recommendations as well as their recommended wine pairings and they couldn’t have done better - they nailed it! They serve both a variety of their in-house wines as well as an extensive list of other regional wines, but their in-house wines were all wonderful and we stuck with those throughout our stay. Experience: We were able to enjoy a stroll through the vineyards after breakfast and took their cooking class in the afternoon which included lunch and a wine tasting after. I highly recommend this experience as it was engaging, informational, and fun! Overall we were very pleased with our stay and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We felt prices were very reasonable for the experience and we will definitely be recommending this place to friends and family! Great views. Great food&wine. Great service

12/04/2026: We booked a double room at Altarocca Wine Resort for what was supposed to be a special night: the last of our honeymoon. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bitter experience, marked by frustration, disappointment, and utter disappointment with the way the situation was handled. As soon as we entered the room, we realized that the so-called "double bed" was actually two single mattresses pushed together, with a visible indentation in the middle. Sleeping was uncomfortable and frustrating, far from what one would expect for a €190 a night. The most serious issue wasn't just the problem itself, but the way it was handled. After immediately reporting the situation at check-in, we were told that to get a true double mattress, we would have to book a higher room category, paying an additional €50. And, rather casually, we were told that "it was still a double bed." Frankly, an unacceptable response for a property that should and does boast such standards. The next day, upon checkout, no one even bothered to ask us how our stay had gone (and I also consider this to be in poor taste). I was the one who had to raise the issue again, only to be met with a cold and indifferent attitude, as if the issue were irrelevant. Zero customer service, zero empathy, and zero professionalism. Making everything even more unpleasant was the fact that it was the last night of our honeymoon: a moment that should have been pleasant, relaxing, and memorable, but which was instead ruined by this experience. Finally, the organization of the wine tasting also left much to be desired, which is paradoxical for a property called a wine resort: I had asked for a wine tasting upon our arrival at 5:00 PM, but we were told they would have to check the sommelier's availability at that time. In essence, we would have had to start without even having time to settle into our room. An unreasonable proposal, which we obviously declined. In conclusion, a well-presented organization that, in reality, proved to be inattentive to customers, inflexible, and unprofessional in handling issues. For the price paid and for the occasion, I expected something completely different. Absolutely not worth it.

21/04/2026: The trattoria is located in a small square on a side street, very welcoming and characteristic. Excellent first courses, and the tiramisu is a perfect dessert to finish off your meal.

11/05/2026: Unfortunately, we didn't have the opportunity to try the restaurant's cuisine, and for this very reason, we prefer not to comment on this aspect. However, we believe it's important to emphasize how much first impressions and hospitality impact a customer's overall experience. We had booked a table on April 25th, intrigued by the idea of ​​a day trip to the beautiful Orvieto. Before arriving, I called the restaurant simply to warn them that, due to the typical holiday traffic coming from Rome, we might experience a slight delay of about 15 minutes. This wasn't a certainty, but simply a possibility that we wanted to disclose for the sake of fairness, having also had to enter our credit card details to guarantee the reservation. Unfortunately, the person on the phone was rather rude and unhelpful. This was a questionable decision, especially since we weren't just customers, but also tourists. We were told in no uncertain terms that such a delay would be unacceptable and that the table would be cancelled immediately after 2:00 PM, adding: "After the toll booth, you have 20 minutes to arrive on time." We regret not having been able to enjoy what might have been a positive experience in other respects, but given these circumstances, we chose to cancel the reservation. Our intention was simply to be courteous and transparent, advising that we could arrive no later than 2:15 PM. We're still a little disappointed by what happened, but that's okay.

07/05/2026: I've known this restaurant for 6 years and returned to it on May 2nd for the 5th time (in October 2022 I also celebrated my birthday there) and I must say that the experience is always magnificent. It's the ideal way to escape the tourist chaos of Orvieto, especially in the midst of a long holiday like May 1st. The dinner was truly excellent, with masterful preparations of Umbrian cuisine and more; an excellent wine list; impeccable and very friendly service. Even though I'm not a regular visitor, I admit that returning is always a wonderful experience! See you soon!

03/05/2026: Exceptional dinner on the terrace. We really enjoyed the off-menu dishes, especially the spaghetti with shrimp bisque and the peanut parfait. The terrace was truly beautiful, very close to the Duomo.

25/04/2026: We had dinner with my partner today, April 25th, and what can I say... everything was delicious, the service was truly impeccable, the waiters were knowledgeable and kind. We had 1 appetizer, 1 carbonara, and 1 boneless rabbit in Orvieto sauce with spinach and 1 Roman-style artichoke. Everything was delicious, but the rabbit was exceptional.

03/06/2026: What a wonderful dining experience. From the moment we arrived, everything was exceptional, great food, outstanding service, and a beautiful atmosphere. The menu offers unique flavors, and every dish tasted incredibly fresh and thoughtfully prepared. I had the rabbit with pancetta and potatoes, which was absolutely delightful, it disapeared quickly, while my husband enjoyed the wild boar pasta, equally delicious. We finished our meal with a classic tiramisu, a cherry and ricotta cake, and two espressos, the perfect ending to an unforgettable lunch. The restaurant is tucked away in a charming alley filled with greenery and beautiful natural light, creating a peaceful and inviting setting. One thing we especially appreciated was how calm and relaxing it felt, even in a popular tourist destination. The service truly elevated the experience. Our waiters were phenomenal, attentive, welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind throughout the meal. A small tip for future visitors: arrive when they open, as tables fill up quickly for good reason. Thank you for such a memorable experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would happily return the next time we’re in Orvieto.

03/06/2026: Dishes - Pasta al tartufo - Spezazztino Di cinghiale - Gnocchi al cinghiale Available ❌ WIFI The restaurant has a great atmosphere, and the seating is comfortable and clean. However, there are a few staff members, and sometimes it's hard to find someone you're looking for. Pasta al tartufo features thick noodles with a softer texture than chewy ones. Paired with truffles, the overall flavor is rich and delicious. Truffle lovers shouldn't miss it! Spezazztino Di cinghiale is simply roasted pork. The pork is tender and has a good texture, but it's more of a side dish than a main course. Eating it alone might be a bit monotonous and easily become greasy or salty. This restaurant has a refined feel, and the food is delicious, but the prices are indeed quite high!
