La Taverna Dell'Etrusco In Orvieto

After the San Brizio chapel tried to eat your soul, you need a place to unclench your jaw. La Taverna dell'Etrusco is that place. No gold leaf. No frescoes of demons grinning at your damnation. Just a quiet taverna room, a cold Poretti 4, and a plate of bufala that doesn't ask anything of you except to shut up and eat. This is the antidote to those Bologna pasta factories, the ones running on fumes and TripAdvisor stickers. Here, nobody's performing. The focus is purely on the plate. Heavy local tradition. Zero shouting. The umbrichelli? Goodness me. It's hand-rolled until it gets that silky al dente thing, the kind of structural integrity that doesn't collapse under a proper sauce. Yeah, fork halfway to your mouth, because your brain just short-circuited trying to figure out how something so simple hits so hard. That's not crudeness. That's reverence, and Signorelli, the guy who painted flayed skin and grinning demons, would absolutely respect a man who swears at good pasta. And the sauce: tangy tomato cut with rich pork fat. That's Umbria right there. No apologies. The fat emulsifies into the tomato until it's not a topping anymore, it's a substance. A sauce that coats your mouth like a memory you didn't know you had. You sit there, fork halfway to your mouth, and realize: this is why they've been eating like this for centuries. Not for Instagram. Not for Michelin. Because it's right. You walk out into the Orvieto evening, still cloudy, but the rain has stopped, and for the first time all day, you're not blinking like a trauma survivor. You're just full. And quiet. And that's enough.

We stopped on the Larth trail. The pork shank was delicious and the service excellent. I highly recommend it. The price was very fair, €20 per person, including an appetizer and main course with side dish.

Fantastic experience. Do not listen to the reviews of bad service. The service here was perfect as long as you understand that Italian restaurants let you decide when you are done, or when you need something. Our food came quickly, and we're were even checked on. The food was good as well. I highly recommend their 5 cheese pizza with asparagus.

Nice restaurant in the center of Orvy, good pizza, light and crispy, decent first courses, very friendly staff, toilets in perfect order.

Unfortunately, and I mean unfortunately, the quality of the food has dropped dramatically. The appetizer cost less than €16 and wasn't worth it at all, and the pizza had different ingredients than the menu. We just couldn't get there.

The ingredients are good quality, but the food is basic. Bruschetta with a slice of tomato left on top, but good olive oil. Tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms and excellent mushrooms, but just sautéed. The place is beautiful and welcoming, with friendly staff.

Orvieto's restaurant, the pizza and pasta are delicious^^

Brought here by friends from Orvieto, we tried a bit of everything from beans to bruschetta to pizza. Everything was excellent, even the chocolate flan. The service was kind, friendly, and fast. I recommend it.

After a three-week vacation in Asia, before returning to Sardinia we decided to take a tour of Umbria, starting in Orvieto. On Sunday, December 7th, while wandering around the city, we came across this little taverna, and even though we hadn't booked, they welcomed us right away. What can I say? Our first Italian meal in many days. We loved it. We had a cured meats appetizer, tagliatelle with wild boar, pasta carbonara, and finally tiramisu. We can't complain. The prices are fair and average.
