03/09/2024: On a warm summer evening we ate outside the restaurant, with a glimpse of the lake. Good food, well presented, and the waitress was very kind even though she had a lot to do and was alone. Careful and attentive service. Worth a stop.

29/08/2024: We were in Il Portale in June and are still talking about this restaurant, so it’s about time to write a review. We totally loved it here, cosy restaurant with a view of the lake, delicious food en very friendly service. The lady who served us spoke very well English en explained all the local specialties on the menu. She had a lot of knowledge about her products and you could see she was very proud of them. We loved the slow cooked egg with the local mountain cheese, the risotto with ossobuco and the home made bread of long fermentation with the delicious olive oil from Sicily! @Restorante Il Portale: We would be very happy if you could share with us the name of that olive oil , since we have been thinking about it ever since. Thank you 🙏!

16/11/2024: We had the great pleasure of eating at Ristorante Usignolo above Cannero Riviera and it was an experience that we will remember for a long time. Even the journey along the winding roads with a spectacular view of Lake Maggiore was impressive, but when we finally sat down on the terrace, we were simply thrilled. The view of the lake and surrounding mountains, especially at sunset, was simply breathtaking. The menu immediately impressed us – a perfect mix of regional specialties and Italian tradition. The fresh fish dishes and homemade pasta in particular were an absolute highlight. You can immediately tell that they cook here with the best ingredients and a lot of love. Every dish we tried was thought out down to the last detail and incredibly tasty. The service was as warm as it was attentive. We immediately felt welcome and the team's recommendations - be it for the food or the wine pairing - were excellent. Everything was served with a smile and we had the impression that every guest was truly valued here. The atmosphere was simply indescribable. The combination of excellent food, warm service and this incredible view made the evening very special. It felt like a getaway for the soul. We can only warmly recommend Ristorante Usignolo. If you're in the area, you should definitely reserve a table - especially on the terrace. This restaurant impressed us not only culinary but also emotionally, and we will definitely come back.

03/11/2024: Thank you for existing! ❤️ All my life I thought that river fish couldn't be as tasty as sea fish, but this restaurant convinced me. We might have waited a little longer for the food to arrive, but that's understandable because it was very crowded on a Sunday early afternoon. Food and drink prices are moderate for Italy, but the food is worth every cent. 🔝🔝🔝

01/09/2024: Simply try it and you're on the safe side! The food is excellent, the staff is extremely professional and friendly. The cellar has a very wide variety of wines and, finally, the bathrooms are also clean! What are you waiting for???? Bon appetit to all of you who go to the Smoking Hen!!!

26/10/2024: I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant with a friend in August. I had never been there. The venue is tastefully furnished, with attention to every detail, from the combination of pastel colors to the choice of cones of shadow and light. The cuisine is of a high standard. The wide range of dishes described in a refined way immediately raises the level of expectation. The experience on the palate goes further. The flavors blend in an explosion of pleasure. The wine list is up to par. The service is also adequate. I will definitely come back.

20/10/2024: The food and the place are not bad but the service is very cold and the owner with her fake smile is very clever because we split the bill and she thought it best to round it up in her favour, not to give the receipt and we paid in cash!! Terrible, shameful and unprofessional attitude!!!

Einer lokalen Käsesorte. Oder die Maltagliate mit Renke, einem Fisch von hier. Besser geht es kaum. Und der Service. Zuvorkommend, lächelnd, kompetent! What Else? Hier ißt man gerne, denn man ist GAST!È stata la nostra seconda visita, e non l'ultima. Un ristorante con una cucina creativa, fantasiosa e di ottima fattura. Uovo Nonno Grassi, con Bettelmatt. Un tipo di formaggio locale. Oppure le Maltagliate con Renke, un pesce locale. Non potrebbe essere migliore. E il servizio. Cortese, sorridente, competente! Che altro? Qui si mangia bene perché si è OSPITI!

05/09/2024: Endroit féerique, produits de qualité et réalisations de grande qualité. Nous avons apprécié tout particulièrement la tarte tatin oignon/poire/glace parmesan(un délice) et les cannellonis ricotta champignon sauce truffe blanche. N’hésitez pas !

12/11/2024: Parmi les rares restaurants de Stresa ouverts à cette période... ambiance bistrot et cuisine familiale revendiquée. Assiette saucisse /polenta et chataignes généreuse et gouteuse. Filet de porc à la moutarde un peu décevant. Service efficace et souriant.

01/11/2024: Amazing little restaurant away from the touristic places. If you want amazing classic Italian dishes, go here. The place is run by 2 people and so you're lucky to get a table. But if you do, you won't regret it! I had the best carbonara of my life and we made a beautiful connection with the chef and his colleague. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

The chef is an experienced maestro in the kitchen who explained the menu options in detail and catered to our individual needs.
