18/05/2025: At Trattoria Zio Pierino, hospitality is at home: we arrived late, around 3:00 pm, but they welcomed us with a smile and a phrase that says it all about their spirit: “We certainly won’t let you starve!” And so it was: from that moment on, a real journey into the authentic flavors of Calabrian tradition began. The appetizers were one marvel after another: fragrant frittatine, tasty black tripe, delicate and fragrant elderberry fritters, and of course the legendary pepi cruschi, crunchy and irresistible. Each dish seemed to tell a story, that of home cooking made with love and genuine ingredients. Zio Pierino is not just a trattoria, it is a culinary experience that makes you feel at home, pampered and full (pleasantly full!). Highly recommended for those who want to savor true Calabrian cuisine with the warmth of old-fashioned hospitality.

12/05/2025: Ho pranzato ieri insieme ad un numeroso gruppo di amici in questa trattoria, molto caratteristica, ordinata e pulita, venendo accolti con particolare gentilezza ed il sorriso sia dal titolare che dalle sue figlie, mostratisi da subito molto ospitali, attenti e pronti a qualsiasi esigenza della clientela. I piatti, serviti con prodotti tipici del luogo, sono di ottima qualità e molto particolari anche per quanto riguarda la loro preparazione e presentazione. Ci siamo trovati tutti molto bene sia per l'ospitalità e sia per l'ottimo rapporto qualità - prezzo. Consigliatissimo, anche per i palati più esigenti.

01/04/2025: Abbiamo pranzato in gruppo presso questo locale il 30 marzo 2025. Inizialmente ho contattato la gentilissima Elisa, per prendere accordi, poi ho trattato con lei le varie esigenze alimentari speciali del gruppo. Il locale è raggiungibile con estrema facilità, si presenta in maniera molto carina ed accogliente, la prima cosa che salta all’occhio è la pulizia degli ambienti, arredati con cura ( hanno un meraviglioso tavolo realizzato su una vecchia macina) , pulitissimi anche i servizi igienici, nonostante fosse una domenica all’ora di punta! Una menzione d’onore al servizio, che “ marciava” perfettamente: in poco tempo hanno completato il servizio al nostro tavolo, nonostante fossimo diversi gruppi e il locale fosse pieno. Personale garbato e disponibile, che ha gestito senza difficoltà le nostre variegate esigenze e, in perfetta sincronizzazione con la cucina, che è stata ineccepibile, venendo incontro alle più disparate richieste, tra allergie e intolleranze, sia per i menù a base di stocco, che di carne. Sono celiaca e, davvero raramente, ho trovato questa stessa attenzione in altri posti, ho optato per il menù senza glutine a base di carne, abbondante e dettagliato, proprio come quello con glutine, tanto che ad ogni portata, chiedevo se fossero certi che fosse senza glutine! Eccellente la marmellata di peperoncino piccante prodotta da loro! Sicuramente ci tornerò, intanto lo consiglio, perché oltre alla buona cucina, troverete professionalità, competenza e l’ accoglienza tipica calabrese e subito vi sentirete a casa! Complimenti!

01/06/2025: We stopped at this place after reading the positive reviews and what can I say?….. the reviews were not wrong…. Excellent restaurant for the cuisine (fresh fish with catch of the day and excellent chef), the location (parking right in front) and above all the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff…. The very kind Mimmo and the owner of the restaurant….. both very courteous and always ready to fulfill our every request….. very nice place and modest prices… super quality……. simply a wonderful experience….. thank you….. we will definitely return

28/04/2025: We spent 2 days in the town of Altomonte for the first time, as soon as we arrived we looked for a restaurant because it was lunch time and luck took us to the S.Francesco tavern. A very characteristic place with home cooking: fresh food, cooked with love by Massimo, the chef, very tasty with personalized recipes. Very kind staff. The owner is very good, very communicative, on the 2nd day we returned with a couple of American friends. Fish lunch exceptional. Congratulations to all the staff of the S.Francesco tavern.

01/12/2024: Un posto tranquillo e accogliente, dove sembra di stare a casa e pranzare in compagnia. Cibo ottimo e abbondante , gentilissimo signor Silletta, titolare del locale. Ho pranzato insieme alla mia famiglia e una coppia di amici, siamo stati benissimo.

02/06/2025: Disappointing, below expectations. The appetizer was passable, neither infamy nor praise. The first courses turned out to be not very tasty, lacking in character. The choice to serve a typical first course directly in aluminum foil is negatively surprising: truly inexplicable for a restaurant. But the worst came with the fried calamari rings, which seemed to have come out of a frozen bag from the supermarket. A real disappointment, especially considering that we are in a seaside place, where the freshness of the fish should be the norm.

27/05/2025: The food was okay, but the service was a bit overwhelmed at times. For example: We ordered an orata (sea bream), but "unfortunately, it's out, have a spigola, it's similar." Okay, we ordered a spigola, but a slice of pesce spada (grilled swordfish) arrived that we hadn't ordered. On our table were the white wine we ordered in the cooler and two filled glasses. A waiter appeared with a bottle of red wine and two glasses, expressed surprise that we supposedly hadn't ordered it, and left again (the wine was eagerly awaited at the neighboring table, 50 cm away). A similar thing happened again with spaghetti vongole, which was brought to us but meant for someone else ;-)))). Maybe next time we'll just eat and drink whatever they bring us 🙃 Always well-stocked, that might explain it.

30/05/2025: Everything was fantastic! Absolutely among the best restaurants in Calabria. Chef Bruno was excellent and the service was perfect, very kind and super informed. We had two fish appetizers (shrimp cocktail and trio of raw fish), two first courses (spaghetti with anchovies & paccheri di mare) and a second course of seared tuna to share. Everything was delicious and of local origin! The local culinary excellence is prepared and served with Michelin-star professionalism and quality! Thank you so much for the welcome and the experience, we can't wait to come back!

31/05/2025: Calypso restaurant in Belvedere Marittimo is a real experience! I was invited to dinner with my boss's family and the experience was incredible. The raw and fried fish appetizers were delicious and very fresh. The highlight was my “pasta con vongole”, which I asked for with the clams on the side. Even though it was a complicated request, the staff responded with excellence. The service was attentive and the atmosphere welcoming. I recommend it to everyone who visits Belvedere Marittimo.

29/05/2025: After spoiled restaurant visits on the East Coast, tonight was rather disappointing. At the beginning, we were rushed to order, and the order of dishes was not followed. After the bill was handed over, no one paid any attention to us. We left the amount and weren't even greeted as we left!
