Nice restaurant, flexible service, good food

Tropea style tuna with french fries was just amazing. Lasagna was ok.

My husband and I visited this place. Honestly, best food and service in Tropea! I don’t know why this restaurant isn’t a 5 star. The grilled catch of the day was so perfectly cooked. I think it’s called Fegillo frengilina (sorry if I butchered the name). Oh and order the fries, best fries we’ve ever had. Couldn’t speak highly of the owner. He’s so attentive and really cares about the service

The food and wine were excellent. The service was exceptionally friendly; they checked in several times to make sure everything was alright. The terrace was well-protected with a sea view. They were open in the afternoon. I highly recommend this restaurant!

This restaurant is located right on the main promenade and offers a truly beautiful view. Usually, we try to avoid the very touristy main street because our experience is often that the food is made for tourists who will probably never come back. Here, we were completely wrong. We had the grilled calamari, and they were honestly the best we tried in Tropea — a generous portion, perfectly cooked, tender, and absolutely delicious. My boyfriend had the grilled swordfish, and even I, as someone who normally does not like fish very much, thought it was fantastic. The fish was full of flavour and incredibly tasty. I chose the traditional fileja ’nduja pasta. It was good, but it did not impress me as much as the seafood dishes. I had a better version elsewhere, and here I felt like there was just a bit too much going on in the dish. My recommendation would definitely be: come here for the seafood and fish rather than the pasta. The service was extremely kind and accommodating, and they happily fulfilled our special requests. Overall, this is definitely a place worth recommending.

We had such a wonderful evening at Ristorante Scacco Matto! From the moment we sat down, it was clear this place is something special. The staff really know their food and wine inside out, and you can feel their passion in every recommendation they give. Everything we tried was local and incredibly fresh. The mixed fish grill was an absolute highlight, perfectly prepared and full of flavor. The pasta was delicious, and the mixed pork dish was just as impressive rich, hearty, and clearly made with high quality local ingredients. What truly made the night unforgettable was the service. The team paid so much attention to detail, explaining dishes, sharing stories behind the ingredients, and making sure everything was just right. It felt personal and warm, not just professional. If you’re looking for authentic local cuisine, great wine, and some of the best service we’ve experienced, we can’t recommend this place enough. We had a lovely night and will definitely be back!

We've been traveling through Italy since January and have eaten at numerous restaurants. Last night, we experienced the absolute pinnacle of culinary delight at this restaurant. The tuna tataki was simply perfect. Add to that the friendliness of the staff, who always kept a watchful eye on the guests and spoke fluent English. One employee speaks eight different languages, so communication with most guests is certainly possible. Anyone who appreciates excellent ingredients and a truly wonderful experience in a small Italian restaurant should definitely pay this one a visit.

We popped in for drinks and a snack, we were so impressed with the meals being served to other people and the friendly and professional staff that we came back the next night. The food was a very pleasant surprise, I had the Tuna Tataki , which was in my eyes done too perfection. Should we be in Tropea again then this will be our first choice.
