14/08/2025: Disappointing Experience at Rifugio Ristoro Val Fraele Last week, I took a pleasant hike to Lake Cancano with some friends. At the end of the hike, we decided to stop for lunch at Rifugio Ristoro Val Fraele. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. Aside from the rather high bill compared to what we actually ate, what really shocked me was the dish of "penne with roe deer ragù" I ordered. It was actually a simple tomato pasta dish, dry and with a few pieces of meat of questionable origin, all for €14.00. I expressed my disappointment to the waiter—perhaps it was a kitchen error—and agreed to a complimentary dessert as a gesture of kindness. Unfortunately, the dessert actually appeared on the bill, and it wasn't even what we'd asked for: instead of blueberry ice cream, we were served blueberry yogurt. Added to this are other shortcomings that compromised the overall experience: the cheese for the requested starter never arrived, the cutlery wasn't brought with the dishes and we had to ask for it ourselves, and the service overall seemed disorganized and inattentive. In conclusion, I wouldn't recommend this place. The location is certainly charming, but the quality of the food and the service leave much to be desired.

14/08/2025: The refuge is located in a beautiful, panoramic location. Both inside and out, it's very charming and clean, and the staff is young and courteous. The menu features typical local dishes, comparable in selection, quality, and price to those found at most mountain huts. Payment is accepted by card, but reservations are not accepted.

04/03/2025: I've visited several times, always with my ski boots on. It's a mountain hut, so you can expect mountain hut service, nothing more. Great for a lunch in the sun. Good food. Fast service. Right on the slopes.

04/03/2025: The menu indicated that the fries were gluten-free, and I was assured they were cooked in a separate fryer. Yet, after eating them, I had a reaction, a clear sign of contamination. Fortunately, in my case, it wasn't serious, but for someone with more severe celiac disease or other dietary restrictions, such a negligence could have far more serious consequences. It's unacceptable for a restaurant to falsely claim to accommodate certain dietary restrictions without ensuring an adequate level of safety and without warning customers of the potential risks. Anyone who writes "gluten-free" on a sign without having the slightest idea what it means should be ashamed. If you can't safely serve a gluten-free option, don't list it on the menu!

21/07/2025: Super god mad og venlig betjening. Menukortet er varieret, hvilket gør det nemt at finde noget man kan lide. Restauranten har en dejlig terrasse, hvor man kan sidde og nyde solen.

16/07/2025: Tutto riconfermato anche questa volta ma devo segnalare un calo di qualità sui miei pizzoccheri preferiti, li ho trovati poco formaggiosi e filanti e poveri di verdure.... Peccato

28/06/2025: Cena di coppia per festeggiare anniversario. Primi piatti senza alcun sapore: tagliolini con funghi porcini " annacquati", pizzoccheri quasi senza formaggio. Secondo di sciatt con due pezzettini di formaggio senza infamia né lode. Pane praticamente raffermo: impossibile dividerlo con le mani. Dolce discreto Cena da dimenticare Sconsigliatissimo

26/03/2025: Stopped in last night for a simple dinner. What a great place. Warm and friendly with a fire going. The best foccacia and ham sandwich with a glass of local red wine. Perfect. The cashier is 100% automated. I'm sure that the people who live nearby appreciate this wonderful place.

29/09/2024: Easily accessible refuge. Despite the cold day, the dining room was not heated at all. Too bad, even the food was lukewarm (polenta with tomino and speck and buckwheat ravioli with Bitto). The portion of the first course was a little small.

15/09/2024: Unfortunately, and I'm really sorry, beyond a pleasant welcome, we ate really badly and at an excessive cost, compared to other refuges, even though we understood the difficulty of supplies: pizzoccheri with little cheese and vegetables, not good reheated tagliatelle I'm really sorry... because, given the context, I don't understand how you can't find excellent raw materials nearby... I've seen cows... and good, cheap butter and cheese I think...

12/02/2025: Ci sono tornato ieri sera a cena dopo un anno e ho ritrovato la stessa qualità e bontà dei piatti tipici della cucina locale. Prezzi assolutamente onesti e servizio sempre cortese e veloce. Ottimo per una cena livignasca

29/05/2025: Ho pranzato in questo ristorante e devo dire che la qualità del cibo era molto buona e molto bene è andato pure il servizio, il titolare una persona molto alla mano e simpatico, non è scontato trovarne così, peraltro il locale molto bello internamente, con una bella mise en place ed una vista stupenda, ci tornerò.

20/04/2025: Una stella per la posizione e per la vista ma per quanto riguarda il cibo lasciamo perdere. Il locale era pieno di stranieri probabilmente ospiti dell'albergo. Abbiamo ordinato due primi : Pizzoccheri per me e tagliatelle con i funghi per mia moglie. Orribili, entrambi forse riscaldati per la quinta/sesta volta. Capisco il pizzocchero ma la tagliatella che ha una cottura di 5 minuti non la posso accettare. Forse quello che più conta per loro è accontentare gruppi stranieri e fare soldi mentre fare bene da mangiare non è la priorità del titolare. Avrei voluto far venire al tavolo lo chef e fargli assaggiare i piatti ma mia moglie ha preferito lasciar perdere. Anche i prezzi sarebbero da discutere. Mai più. Italiani state alla larga !!!!

03/08/2025: A small Italian restaurant with delicious pizza, beer, and Aperol Spritz. Near the train station and souvenir shops. Service is quick and efficient. On-site restrooms. Very reasonable prices, and everything is fresh. We highly recommend it.

05/07/2025: Well, what can I say? When a guest's menu is thrown on the table without comment and the waiter doesn't respond to my greeting, then I'm really fed up. The cannelloni I ordered weren't cooked al dente, but rather firm. After complaining, they briefly put them in the microwave, which didn't improve the situation. Pizzoccheri were good. And the price was reasonable for everything. It's a shame. Instead of mass-produced food, they could do something with this restaurant. Make the menu a bit more presentable and give the staff professional training; then the reviews would be better.

15/07/2025: Cibo ottimo, soprattutto la polenta taragnaaaaa. Ci sono anche dei giochi per i bambini, gli asinelli,escursioni e poltrone per prendere il ☀️

10/07/2025: Dopo le passeggiate lungo e sopra il Lago di Livigno, dà soddisfazione il pranzo in questo caratteristico locale, dove sostanzialmente tutto è buono e gustoso ( dalle zuppe ad un semplice uova e bacon, ai più elaborati spatzle con noci e speck, fino ad un eccellente strudel). Bene così.
