08/09/2025: A slice of Japan in Milan! The care and delicacy in every little detail of the dinner took me straight back to Japan. Every dish we tried was delicious. Chef Satoshi Hazama meticulously selects every ingredient and makes every dish from scratch, like the pumpkin and Piedmontese Fassona croquettes, breaded not in the classic panko, but in sourdough bread. For unagi/una-ju lovers, here you'll find a delicate yet delicious version. Dinner literally flew by to the sounds of Joe Hisashi, accompanied by impeccable and warm service. 29/09/2025: When we visited on a Sunday evening, everything was delicious. The dishes are many, unique and definitely different from those at competing restaurants, which lately all seem the same. At Sakura Ya, most of the dishes seem homemade, and the staff, extremely kind and fast, seem like they belong to a family rather than a brand. The location, a former church, certainly plays a part. Besides sushi, the menu offers a wide variety of first and second courses, teppanyaki, and fried dishes, more than other similar restaurants, so I would recommend it even to those who aren't fans of raw fish or those with a few hesitant guests in their party. The price is in line with its competitors (I'd even say slightly lower). Highly recommended.

07/11/2025: I've been frequenting this lovely little place both in person and online since it was renovated after closing. The food is excellent and the staff is professional. I ordered delivery from home once again, courtesy of the excellent Riccardo, who presented me with a final price I wasn't expecting. It was a few euros more, but I had the exact amount with me. He immediately agreed to contact the restaurant for clarification. One of the managers explained to me that the online offer of €29.90 included five courses, and since I ordered four, I was charged the full price for the four courses. It's true that when I placed my order over the phone, I remembered on the spot that the €29.90 offer was for four courses instead of five, but it's also true that I've always ordered according to the offer. It's true that it's not possible to remember all the regulars, but a GENERAL focus on customer service would have prompted the manager to point out that by ordering five dishes (I had selected four), you can enjoy a better price, even if it's only a few euros more than the extra course. Since I'm here, I'll make a suggestion. Even if the restaurant is nearing closing time, where I've personally brought friends, a partner, and relatives, or when I've visited in blissful solitude, rather than turning off the air conditioning in the summer or opening the large doors in the winter while there are still customers finishing their dinner, perhaps it's better to wait to avoid congestion or excessive temperature changes in the post-lunch phase. 01/10/2025: This is my second time back at Niwa and I'm quite satisfied. The menu offers a wide selection of dishes with quality ingredients. Prices are moderately high, but perfectly in line with the quality of the food served. The wine list is also good. I wasn't particularly impressed with the desserts compared to the rest. The setting is very beautiful, but a bit chilly for my taste (I'm talking about the temperature). Regardless, I recommend it! Definitely book in advance.

Kudos to the friendly and professional staff. The gunkan and tartare are out of this world, out of this world. If you're in the Naviglio area, you can't miss a stop at Toyama.
