The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The staff was friendly, and the owner was wonderful; he even brought out a decorated dish to celebrate my wife's birthday. 28/02/2026: Let me start by saying that I'm from Naples and my partner is from Varese, and I was visiting her for Valentine's Day. One evening, we stopped at this place for two gin-based cocktails each. The price of about €10 per cocktail, plus a complimentary tray of six mini canapés (as we were told), seemed reasonable. It's a shame that the flavor of my drinks, with the gin I'd specified, didn't quite match the original. After four cocktails, we asked for the bill, and the owner, who had introduced himself during the evening, brought us two mini shots (not even the size of a regular shot) of a drink he'd created and invented, claiming they were on the house. Unbeknownst to me, my partner paid the bill; I estimated the total for the drinks was €40. However, the next day, I discovered that the receipt included an extra charge of "2 x €6 APE LIVELLANZA TOT €12," bringing the total to €52! The disappointment isn't due to the extra €12, but rather to not understanding the reason for this extra charge. Could it be for the two mini shots and the trays of mini canapés advertised as free? The only positive note is the friendly service from the young man at the table. I don't recommend this place based on my experience, both for the quality and the clarity of the bill, and especially for the contrasting manners. Angy

08/03/2026: Stayed with family over the weekend of March 6-8. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming: the common areas were just a bit "lived in," yet well-maintained and clean. The room was cozy and spacious: a comfortable bed, an excellent and manageable temperature, and amenities beyond our expectations. The location was perfect: right on the edge of the pedestrian area. The restaurant is fantastic, and after our first dinner, we never changed because of the authentic and balanced flavor (tagliatelle with meat sauce, ossobuco with polenta, a welcome appetizer, and complimentary limoncello). It's clear that the entire team has put a lot of care, professionalism, and grace into everything. Excellent value. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide selection of dried fruit and cereals, and on Sundays, cakes galore. You can tell when someone loves their job. If I were to return to Varese 100 times, I'd always stay at the Hotel Bologna.

17/03/2026: First time at this place. Welcoming and clean. Friendly, helpful, and fast. Really good food with quality ingredients, excellent sandwiches and beers. Vegan and celiac friendly too. The only small flaw is the noise level; there was a rugby match on and the place was packed, which is normal in this case. However, we were able to chat, and in a normal situation, that's more than acceptable. Perhaps a little thought for the future; sound-absorbing panels would definitely improve, but it's just a small detail.

16/02/2026: Crostata is standard, as is linguine with sea carbonara. It's a shame there's no table on the terrace, even though there were two free tables for the entire two hours – not at the front, but on the terrace. It's also a pity the waiter refilled our wine glasses without asking as he walked by. Oh well, at least the village pub has knife rests. There are simpler restaurants that offer a more pleasant dining experience. I've heard the pizza is okay, but there are plenty of good pizzerias around.

02/12/2025: It's a spectacular pizzeria restaurant in every way, with a wonderful view of the lake. Plus, you can walk to the beach directly from the restaurant. I had an incredibly delicious risotto; we had a delicious appetizer and a second course of fish, both excellent and sublime. If you want to make a good impression and eat very well, make a reservation.

11/02/2026: The menu offers a wide selection; we ordered the mixed fried fish, which was truly delicious, and two first courses. The Scottish cuisine is very true to the original. The beers are also very good. Highly recommended.

17/03/2026: Guys, if you feel like you’ve been striking out with food while you are in Northern Italy, fear no more. Barley House will make your belly happy and full. This was the first meal we have truly enjoyed and we are not unexperienced travelers. I ordered a vegan dragon burger with fries, and my friend ordered a classic beef burger with sweet potato fries. We both are so happy. Come here, for real.

21/03/2026: The atmosphere is dated and shabby. Low-quality food (the first course was shrimp, but it was actually prawns...) and exorbitant prices. Disappointing.

07/03/2026: A charming place, a truly pleasant atmosphere, where you feel at home and pampered. Impeccable service, top-quality ingredients, both for traditional and non-traditional dishes. Both fish and meat. The real star is Diego, who truly knows how to pamper you with impeccable service and a top-notch wine list, all selected by the legendary Diego, featuring refined and unique labels. Compliments!

04/04/2026: We celebrated my daughter's graduation, we had a fish tasting menu, all the guests were satisfied, excellent fish, very light fried food, fish sauce with paccheri definitely good!!! Abundance of dishes despite it being a tasting menu!! Highly recommended. We will definitely be back. See you next time!!

25/02/2026: Excellent atmosphere with trained staff attentive to every need, starting with the long-time Morena, a truly cheerful person who is always present from 5:00 in the morning with a sweet but feisty character and when she is not on duty you can feel it because for the customers after all these years she is unique and irreplaceable alongside the owners who has made the history of this place. Then there are the new entries Irina who is very sweet and makes you feel at ease by pampering the people, as well as Brunilde and Orsjola who are always available and fun. It is a great place to have a typical breakfast with sweets prepared by their pastry chefs and it is a regular place for my family on Sunday mornings because my husband and I love sweets for breakfast but for our daughter who loves savory food they offer a varied assortment of pizzas, savory brioches, arancini, focaccias etc... For lunch it is a good place to bring work colleagues or to enjoy excellent meats and pizza. For the evening I have never been there but I think it is a great place to take your girlfriend for dinner or for groups of friends. I'd say the prices are average, as everywhere you go these days the cost per person is around €25-30. The quality is there, and you can see how the place is very well-kept and modern, always evolving, with furnishings that change and keep up with new designer trends. What more can I say? Come on.

23/02/2026: I visited late in the evening, and the overall experience was pleasant. The place has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, perfectly in keeping with pub style, with wooden furnishings and unique details that make it quaint and relaxing, ideal for an evening with friends or a quiet beer. The atmosphere really gives off the feeling of a family-run establishment, with the attention and friendliness that make you feel at ease. There's a wide selection of beers. I had a Kwak Strong Ale, served beautifully and at the right temperature, with its characteristic, scenic presentation on a wooden stand—a detail that always makes an impact. It's beautifully bitter, full-bodied, and aromatic, truly excellent. A small bowl of popcorn is also served, which is appreciated. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the service is quick without being rushed. Prices are average for the category. The only complaint is the strudel: it's good, but for €6, we expected a slightly larger portion. Recommended if you're looking for a casual yet elegant place to enjoy a good drink and a quiet evening.
