26/12/2025: Extremely rude staff, the young girl at the cash register looks like she's at a funeral, she could just smile and treat the customers less rudely, they treat you as if you're doing them an injustice by coming to their bar.
12/12/2025: I went to this bar for both breakfast and an aperitif. Everything was very good, with a generous aperitif and excellent drinks. The prices are more than fair, and the staff is very welcoming and helpful.

The road is a bit rough and winding, but the place is worth the trip.

This restaurant boasts a typically mountain atmosphere. It's about a half-hour drive from Bardonecchia via a fully paved road, but for long stretches, only one car at a time can pass (with some difficulty if you encounter another vehicle coming from the opposite direction).
The Piedmontese menu isn't extensive, but it's still adequate to satisfy all tastes.
Our orders were overall satisfactory: a varied mixed antipasto with hot and cold dishes (small portions but reasonably priced), pappardelle with wild boar, porcini mushrooms, and chestnuts, al dente and well-seasoned, but the mushrooms were a bit bland and watery; delicious tagliolini with gorgonzola and walnuts; and delicious gnocchi with butter and toma cheese.
Finally, traditional desserts.
The wine list focuses on Piedmontese labels, including some very prestigious ones, with a predominance of red wines.
The service was courteous and prompt.
The price was average, but still reasonable.
For those with walking difficulties, there's a rather challenging paved climb to reach the venue.

Each dish is a small work of art: from the superb Fassona beef tartare to the tagliatelle with ragù, to the tender and flavorful wild boar morsels with polenta. The chef's creative dessert concludes the meal with a touch of originality and refined flavor.
The service is impeccable: kindness, attentiveness, and warmth distinguish every gesture from the waiters, with special thanks to the young waiter for his friendliness and infectious smile. I also appreciated the humility and courtesy of the woman at the register, which contributes to the welcoming and authentic feel of the place.
The chef kindly explained how the Fassona beef tartare is freshly prepared, demonstrating great passion for detail and the freshest ingredients.
Il Portico is the perfect place for those seeking refined flavors, passion in the kitchen, and a convivial experience that feels like home.

04/03/2026: Delicious raclette with potatoes and cured meats, as well as grilled vegetables, onions and olives, sun-dried tomatoes, and homemade bread. A cozy and welcoming atmosphere with a fireplace, and a very friendly owner. Highly recommended!

04/03/2026: We expected better. The dishes didn't wow us and were average, with the exception of the tagliatelle with hare. The veal with tuna sauce was good but a bit grayish, while the polenta was served in a bowl that made it difficult to eat.
Overall, it seems like a place trying to elevate itself to gourmet cuisine, but with some flaws.
I agree with the other reviews complaining about the limited wine selection.

09/02/2026: I contacted the number on the website to book, and after providing my information and confirming the reservation over the phone, I was told I would receive the details (including payment) via WhatsApp. Not only was I never contacted, but I never received a response when I called or emailed. In the end, I had to cancel every activity I had booked for my weekend in the mountains, despite having difficulty finding other accommodations. Disgraceful and unprofessional. Absolutely avoid!
01/02/2026: Truly charming place, a little outside of Bardonecchia. Spacious, clean rooms with a small balcony offering a beautiful view.

29/04/2026: I arrived at the hotel late in the evening and was greeted by the owner with the warmth of a five-star hotel.
He explained everything to me and recommended a restaurant across the street where I ate very well for a modest price.
In the morning, I found breakfast for 10 people, even though, given the season, I was the only guest.
I recommend it for its friendliness, cleanliness, and service. It's an older hotel with its age-related flaws.
I'll definitely be back.
18/03/2026: DO NOT STAY AT THIS “HOTEL”, it’s similar to Fawlty towers
A truly Awful stay, if management spent money on renovations and cleaning it could be okay. Upon arrival at 10:15pm we were charged a €25 late check in fee, for a hotel at 10:15???? The front door was secured with a chain and lock at night.
The first room we were offered had black mould behind the bedside lockers(found it because I was looking for a plug), blood or a brown stain on the wall, a carpet with many dark marks of dirty on it. I immediately requested something else, we were given a new room, which was less unacceptable though it had a similar stained carpet, a foul smell from the drains(we had to buy a bathroom fragrance and leave window open-in January!) the old springs in the beds made quite a racket. Our children were in the room above us, they had no stains on the carpet but a parquet wooden floor which creaked with the slightest touch-we could tell when they were awake. Breakfast(the reason I booked🙈): the breakfast cappuccino in the bar was good for the first two midweek days, the food accompanying it was not pleasant, semi stale apricot croissants and stale breakfast cereal. Unfortunately breakfast moved to the “restaurant”🤣 at the weekend, the coffee machine was disgusting and appeared to have not been cleaned, white floating debris in your coffee is not a good sign! The remainder of the food was the same as midweek-bad! Go for a self catering accommodation elsewhere it will be better (anything will be better!!) A rolled cigarette butt which stayed on the fire alarm switch during our stay, not removed during cleaning suggests a dangerous disregard to guests safety. AVOID this place.

25/08/2025: The aperitif menu is truly inadequate. You offer an aperitif with house selections, which are actually just three biscuits, something you'd find in any bar, where you'd eat more and better, especially with a quality bottle. Not recommended.
