30/09/2025: I'm sharing my very positive experience! We were four of us at this restaurant on July 11, 2025. The welcome was typically touristy, but the restaurant actually offered impeccable service, good food, and excellent value. It's a shame about the portions, which were really small.

04/10/2025: We had already eaten at this restaurant three years ago and loved it. We went back today and it's still the same. Top notch from start to finish! Beautiful ambiance both inside and out, very friendly staff, and the dishes coming out of the kitchen are perfect! And the prices for this delicious food are very fair! Highly recommended.

07/10/2025: I went with my wife and son in September for dinner in the ancient cave. The seafood appetizer smelled bad and tasted nothing like seafood. The octopus was transparent and smelled bad—you couldn't tell it was octopus carpaccio; it was literally transparent, like tissue paper. The rest was anything but anything that reminded you of the sea. Everything was frozen and poorly treated. Parmigiana was the sore point!! It wasn't parmigiana, but a mixture of boiled eggs drowned in tomato sauce. I don't think they even know what eggplant parmigiana is; there were only boiled eggs. I wouldn't go back even if they paid me; it was a TERRIBLE experience that's hard to undo. They have no idea what Italian or Calabrian cuisine is. What a shame! These people were improvised and had never worked in a kitchen!

20/09/2025: Yesterday my partner and I had dinner at Scacco matto. Excellent, high-quality food, beautifully presented: seafood appetizer, excellent first and second courses, especially the stroncatura. The quality/price ratio was fair, considering the restaurant is in the center of Tropea. Excellent service, compliments to the waiter, who demonstrated professionalism and friendliness.

20/09/2025: I recently visited Scacco Matto Restaurant in Tropea, and I must say it was a truly memorable experience. The welcome is warm, the staff is kind and attentive, always ready to carefully recommend the best dishes. The atmosphere is pleasant, with attention to detail and yet informal, making even those passing by feel at home. Speaking of the food: the freshest ingredients, especially fish, are expertly prepared. The swordfish rolls with PGI Tropea onions, the Tropeana-style tuna... every bite tastes of the real sea and local tradition. The first courses are well-balanced, beautifully presented, with clear flavors and no unnecessary pretensions, just how I like them. The quality-price ratio is more than fair for the area, considering the care they put into each course. And then the finale: the truffle ice cream (made in Spilinga by Dominique) was the icing on the cake. Creamy, intense, with just the right balance of sweetness and truffle flavor, original and never cloying. If you go to Scacco Matto, you can't miss it—it's one of the most successful desserts I've tasted in Calabria. In short: if you're looking for authenticity, flavor, and an experience that combines local flavors and passion, Scacco Matto is a must-try.

30/08/2025: Lido la costa degli dei is a beach where people go to have fun with their children and relax enjoying their holidays. Go there but I recommend you bring sea shoes with you, the sea is beautiful.

23/08/2025: Excellent quality food, fresh ingredients, and excellent seafood spaghetti. I should point out that I tried to book by phone and was told there was no room until three days later. When I walked by and asked, just to be sure, they gave me a table at 7:30 PM. We shared some courses, which were served separately. Great customer service, perhaps even too much. I was pleasantly surprised that in an AIC-certified restaurant, which is dedicated to gluten-free dining, there was a €3 surcharge for each gluten-free dish served, in addition to a €3 cover charge per person. This didn't happen in other restaurants that were kind enough to prepare gluten-free meals for a celiac, despite not being AIC-certified. Overall, a pleasant dinner.

05/10/2025: My husband and I went for dinner a few weeks ago. The place is nice, but we ordered ravioli and only got gnocchi. I ordered slow-cooked black pig medallions, so the meat should have been incredibly tender, but it was actually tough and grilled. Furthermore, I found a toothpick in the medallion that wasn't part of the dish, and they didn't even know why it was there. The prices aren't in line with the quality of the dishes. Nothing special.

13/08/2025: We visited this place during the week of August 15th and found a table right away. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and they knew how to manage the dining room well. We went to Don Rocco because we'd seen a fantastic aperitivo featuring both cooked and raw fish at a special price on Instagram, but in the end we opted for several dishes to share and sample. Pleasantly surprised, we recommend the peppered mussels... sublime to say the least! The view was spectacular, next to the Norman cathedral in a truly picturesque little square.

21/09/2025: ❌ Terrible experience. The place is dirty, the glasses are visibly stained, and we found bugs and hair in the salad bowl. The food was poor quality, and hygiene leaves much to be desired. I won't return, and I don't recommend it. They have two kitchens, and the food in one is probably poor, given the price.

19/09/2025: We had dinner at this restaurant. The location is very nice, but the table we were assigned wasn't up to par: a small, makeshift table with no tablecloth and paper placemats, definitely less well-kept than the others. We chose not to immediately point out the inconvenience so as not to ruin the evening, and we mentioned it to the cashier, who was understanding, but we were surprised that no one thought to find a better solution throughout the dinner. The food was decent, the pasta a bit overcooked, and the presentation of the dishes left a bit to be desired. The service seemed disorganized: despite having radios to communicate with each other, the staff continued to shout among the tables, giving the impression that they were more concerned with clearing out seats than ensuring a pleasant experience for customers. In short, a place with interesting potential, but one that could significantly improve its service organization and attention to detail. Regarding the restaurant's response, I'd like to point out that the wait was never a problem: we were in no rush to be seated. Contrary to what was stated, we were never offered the choice between waiting or sitting elsewhere. A few minutes later, two women who arrived after us were immediately seated at a newly available table. It's not a matter of waiting, but of lack of transparency in management. Being treated this way is disappointing, and your response is equally so.
