17/02/2026: The "Papaveri e Papere" restaurant is located in the San Miniato district, just outside the town center. Last Sunday, we were guests at this location. We enjoyed a meat-based tasting menu for lunch; the dishes were expertly plated with quality ingredients and beautifully presented in a captivating color palette. A wide array of courses, masterfully prepared by the chef, helped create an ideal, relaxing atmosphere. The sommelier in charge recommended an excellent local wine pairing: the 100% Sanforte, and it was a perfect choice. All the staff were kind, empathetic, professional, and prompt, demonstrating a marked and meticulous "customer focus." The atmosphere was very refined, and the restaurant also has ample parking. The price was more than fair, considering the quality and quantity. I highly recommend this restaurant.

The service is punctual, precise, and friendly: the waiters know the dishes well and are able to offer advice. The atmosphere is elegant, understated without being overbearing, and therefore particularly comfortable. Parking is available both in the parking lot in front and behind the restaurant, where there is also a small green space for children to play. The culinary offering, based on traditional flavors, is intuitive but not at all banal, and the dishes are a blend of well-balanced flavors. The menu is varied and includes meats such as lamb, ossobuco, wild boar, and even a few fish options. The truffle dishes are what makes the restaurant feel connected to its local area and contribute to its unique character. The quality/price ratio is truly excellent, considering the raw materials, the service, and the ambiance. The wine list is also good, with dedicated staff available to help you pair food and wine.

15/03/2026: We visited in mid-March, on a Sunday for lunch in the enchanting San Miniato. The restaurant is beautiful and bright, with large windows overlooking the splendid valley. The wait staff is fabulous, attentive to every need, always kind and professional. It's really hard to express anything about the dishes because they were all so good, with well-defined yet delicate flavors that combined to create a symphony that is hard to forget. High-quality, seasonal ingredients that showcase the local produce. We tried the land tasting, and our 13-year-old daughter was won over by the bottega with dried tomatoes and guinea fowl, duck, and rabbit ragù. Finally, the chef, a wonderful person with kindness in his eyes, was a pleasure to thank for the wonderful lunch. I recommend going, even more than once, to explore the various menus. It's a place that exudes simple, elegant cordiality.

09/12/2025: It's one of my favorite places where I go every morning for breakfast. They are so kind and helpful that I haven't encountered anywhere else. As a transgender woman, I have to say that I've absolutely not encountered any discriminatory attitude.

04/03/2026: Always good pizzas, reasonable prices, and excellent service. The only problem is the place, which is very small and sometimes unbearably noisy when there are loud customers. After a while, I returned to eat at this recently expanded restaurant, which also includes an adjoining room and the option of seating more. They recently ran a 15 euro promotion that includes a Neapolitan mixed fried fish, a pizza, and a drink. The initiative is laudable, but there are some improvements that could be made. The menu includes a certain type of pizza, and if a customer wants a pizza with more toppings, RIGHTFULLY, they have to pay a premium. However, if they want a beer instead of a drink (Coke, Fanta, or water), they have to pay the full price, rather than just the surcharge. In my opinion, it's wrong to force customers to spend not 15 but 20 euros, which is the normal price, considering the fried fish is so cheap. Another consideration. We arrived at 8:00 PM and left at 10:30 PM to grab a pizza and a beer. Frankly, two and a half hours were too long for a meal. There's a lot to improve, especially the speed of serving customers. Pizza, as always, good!

03/03/2026: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Osteria al Casale was the absolute highlight of our time in Matera. Every single dish was outstanding — full of flavor, beautifully presented, and perfectly executed. Fabio made the experience even more special. His wine recommendation was spot on, and in 7 years with my partner, I’ve never seen her completely satisfied with a waiter’s first suggestion… until now. That says it all. Exceptional food, flawless service, unforgettable evening. Highly recommended. 🍷✨

19/03/2026: What can I say...for what we spent I expected better, the truffle meat was good but the black truffle (the cheapest one) was dusted... the steak was not cooked like I've seen done elsewhere... the side dish was 4 baked potatoes (cold) the service was very kind... in the end for a starter and steak almost 80 euros per person seems excessive to me...

12/08/2025: I simply want to say thank you for the lovely evening. For me, it was an immersion into Tuscan life. No tourist rip-offs. The food is fantastic, with warm service from both the chef and the waitress. The fish was delicious. I hope I can ever get a table again after this review.

02/01/2026: Good food, stressed staff. In fact, it would be incorrect to use the plural because the only one who was stressed seemed to be the waitress. Despite the €1,000 lunch we left for 14 people, including three children, she thought it best to frequently speak rudely. Let's just say she's not polite, and if she can't handle the public, she should probably change jobs! We paid, politely left without saying anything, despite the waitress repeatedly speaking rudely to us. For example, at 1:30 PM, while we were ordering our dishes, she'd already told us to order the same things since there were so many of us, to make their job easier. We agreed. However, she also told us to hurry because the chef was finishing work at 3 PM and wanted to go home on time! Despite this, when we finished lunch and paid, she also made a mess and spoke rudely to one of us. We still had to go back after an hour because my father-in-law had forgotten his phone at the restaurant. When they opened, he politely asked him to use the bathroom, but the waitress, with her now clearly unkind manner, told him a firm NO because they had cleaned the bathroom. €1,000 for lunch, and you can't even go to the bathroom! I don't recommend it; I would never go back. Oh, and the place is very cold and unwelcoming.

01/03/2026: The ribs were chewy, I couldn't swallow them. When I pointed it out and asked for them to be cooked properly, the owner said that it was tough because there was a bone in it. I ended up eating one bite of it and sending it back. He made me pay, didn't apologize, and didn't say hello when he left! The salad was also tasteless. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

22/02/2026: Definitely a great place to enjoy lunch or dinner with family and friends without worrying about borrowing money. Homemade, simple, and authentic cuisine.
