18/01/2026: We went scouting for a location to organize a half-day training for a group of residents, in a quaint spot away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We found what we were looking for. A family-run place, even homey, warm and spotlessly clean. Mary and Stefano were warmly welcomed. We asked to stay for dinner in one of the small rooms in the library. The menu included appetizers, a first course, and dessert, masterfully prepared with local products. Excellent value. Try it and believe it!

02/03/2026: Our second experience, the first good, this time terrible, we definitely won't be back. Let's start with the fact that when we called to inquire about the daily menu and see if we should stay and eat based on our tastes and whether they matched the menu, the chef from the kitchen answered us, saying, "I'm cooking and I don't have time to read the menu in detail. I only know that there are both first and second courses, both meat and fish." And here we are approaching the absurd: what do you mean, with all the waiters at his disposal, the chef answers, justifying himself by saying that he's cooking and can't answer the phone?! We arrive at the restaurant anyway, and after ignoring us for a few minutes, they sit us down at the table, which is already set with bread and cutlery. We asked for a menu that wasn't just a first or second course, so we wouldn't pay for the entire menu, but a smaller portion (just one) and paid for what we ate. This was denied, so we decided to order the entire menu and take away what we didn't eat, a practice that's now widely accepted in every restaurant or eating place. We ate the first course, ordered water, and wine, and when the waitress picked up our plates, she brought us a doggy bag with the second course we hadn't eaten, already wrapped and placed in a sealed bag. This prevented us from seeing whether the quantities matched, but once we got home, we saw that since two portions of chicken and two portions of fennel meant the quantities didn't match. It was at this point that we were told we would have to pay €3 extra, as they charge €1 for each container, which was absurd because it's definitely bought in bulk and not individually. No restaurant charges. And at that price, no restaurant, in my opinion, charges for a take-out container. Furthermore, it's not written anywhere, and it should be, otherwise, that a penalty is charged for the doggy bag. Right from the moment we arrived, the waitress, whom we were told was Cristina (gray hair in a ponytail, in her 50s), immediately gave us the impression of looking askance. I'm the first to disagree with the customer's rightness, but there can't even be a situation where the customer is treated based on friendliness. There have been several instances where people feel they're being treated differently, both for certain requests and for you. While I don't believe the customer is always right regardless, there can't even be a situation where they treat patients based on friendliness. There were several instances where I felt like I was being treated differently, whether it was when they brought us the menu, when we asked for things, when I asked for a spoon to eat spaghetti, or when I asked for coffee. Even once at the cashier, where the person accompanying me to complain about the extra charge for the doggy bag, he joked to her, "Well, I should take away everything I didn't finish here." She walked away annoyed. And the person accompanying me told her, "Look, I was just joking." Even though there was very little of a joke, I saw the attitude. A person like that is definitely not worthy of a job dealing with the public, where patience and courtesy should be paramount. Maybe if they found patience, they're not even that good at huffing and puffing and pretending to comply with requests that were actually made clear as "no, I can't." As I've already said, I will never eat at this place again, no matter how much fun it is.

13/03/2026: If you're looking for designer tablecloths, menus in three languages, and "revisited" dishes, this place probably isn't for you. If, however, you want a true Roman trattoria, the one without frills, where you eat as you should and where the food speaks for itself... then you're in the right place. You don't come to Trattoria del Pallaro to be sophisticated: you come to eat well. The cuisine is traditional, made with quality ingredients and by a kitchen staff that knows exactly what it means to cook Roman food. There's no need to explain too much here: the dishes arrive one after the other, generous, flavorful, authentic. And after two minutes at the table, you already know you've come to the right place. It's one of those places that reminds you why Roman cuisine is one of the greatest popular cuisines in the world. Every time I return to Rome, stopping at Pallaro is practically mandatory. And I say this with great serenity: If there were six stars on Google, this place would get them all without question. Because there's no show here. The food here is delicious. And great food, too.

13/03/2026: If I could put zero stars, I would. Food was largely atrocious. Very much a quantity over quality establishment; four courses and all of them worse than the last. One of these “courses,” was literally potato chips on a plate and vegetables boiled til they were the consistency of baby food. We also asked for the menu upon entering and were told there was not a menu and there were four pre set courses. Waiter did not tell us til the end that it was 35€ per person, totaling 70€, which I’m almost certain was intentional. By far the most expensive and worst meal I’ve had in Italy. Also? They only accept cash. Didn’t inform us as such til the end of the meal. This place was a nightmare, you’d be better off going to literally anywhere else. Awful experience. Update: threw up 6 hours later after hellish nausea. Please don’t go here.

12/11/2025: Yes, they refused to issue an invoice, saying, "If I issue an invoice, I'll pay too much tax." Absurd. UPDATED REVIEW: I've been using The Fork for about five years. Everywhere I've gone with the discount, they've always issued an invoice without any problems. We called The Fork last night after leaving the restaurant, and they confirmed that we can issue an invoice without any problems and that they will take this situation into consideration. I note that initially, it was "the program is blocking me," and after two minutes, it changed to "50% of them already understand that if I issue an invoice, I'll pay too much tax." And finally, it started with, "It sounds like a small loan." Everything has been reported, don't worry. New update. The Fork also confirms that this is not true. They notified the Guardia di Finanza this morning, and they will take action on the situation.

09/11/2025: We waited an hour and a half for pizzas even though the place wasn't busy, and the same for drinks. Terrible service, pizzas with good ingredients but expensive and burned. If you eat in the marquee outside, you'll freeze to death. Not recommended.

18/12/2025: This evening my partner and I decided to get takeout pizza here. Very good pizzas with fresh ingredients. Very varied menu. Friendly staff. I recommend it.
