This place perhaps represents a place where you can share a type of class and glamour, given that you have the feeling of being together, tasting the most important grappas, barricades, the most important wines, in the most complete cellar in the whole of Calabria, preserved with the experience of the owner, who offers great preparation in terms of the historical origin of the products with exceptional aromas and flavours, such as the taste of the cheeses from all the most prized international and national dairy companies as well as the natural local ones, which together with the majesty of the king of the tastiest Cocktails

Ho concordato con la proprietaria il menù, chiedendo di fare un tagliere abbondante per 5 persone, compreso di bruschette e focacce, oltre ai drink. Il tagliere che ci è stato portato era neanche per due persone, qualche fetta di salumi, pezzettini di formaggio, due ovoline, due friggitelli e due fette di melanzane grigliate, contornate da uva e pezzi di mela . Ho chiesto spiegazione al cameriere che mi ha riferito che quello era il loro standard. Alche’ ho chiesto un altro tagliere con altra focaccia . Ovviamente il prezzo pagato è stato superiore al concordato. Non ci tornerò mai piu
12/07/2025: They had a tapas poster for after-theater until July 26th. I called and was confirmed with a table with tapas service. We arrived, but there were no tapas, and the beers were still warm. Two platters, two focaccias, and two Cokes for €100.

13/08/2025: Very very slow service. I got there at 7:30 and a simple pasta arrive 1h 15 mins later with a green salad. I mean don’t even want to talk about the unfriendly service. I much preferred Osteria Dritta right across. Being a server is a profession, they clearly don’t know how to host & serve.

The service is very professional, we had a really good time.

03/08/2025: After 10 years, we returned, hoping to find him again. And luckily, Bar Turismo is still there. Same bar and same owner as always. Gelato, in one word: spectacular. Vito might seem grumpy to most tourists (despite the bar's name 😂). It's better this way; tourists go to bars/gelato shops designed especially for them, with bright LED signs, blasting music, futuristic decor, and outrageous prices. We'll keep our lovely Bar Turismo, a dive into the memories and flavors of the past.

09/03/2025: Absolutely not suitable for celiacs, there are two miserable dishes of which one is the french fries, furthermore they cook both dishes in the same kitchen risking contaminating the food with gluten.
If you bring gluten-free food from home to have lunch with friends or relatives, even if the latter buy the dishes offered by the refuge, the waiters and the owner rudely order you to leave the refuge and eat outside in the cold.

Ritrovo Pasticceria Gelateria Doddis

11/06/2025: Pasticceria Doddis in Messina, a tradition since 1926, has historically been a point of reference for artisanal desserts and ice cream, with a particular focus on Sicilian specialties such as cannoli, cassata and granita, made with fresh and quality ingredients.
However, my personal experience with the coffee grenita with cream and the brioche with tuppo disappointed my expectations: the brioche was hard and cold, so much so that it had to be reheated, while the cream turned out to be good in the Messina style, but the granita was less convincing. The hazelnut gianduia cone was very good and the prices are fair. It is clear that a few precautions would be enough to maintain the tradition and efficiency unchanged.
In general, some reviews report quality problems and high prices compared to local competition, with criticisms of brioche not always fresh and small or not up to par granitas, but also appreciation for the quality of some products and the service.
In short, Doddis remains a historic institution of the Messina pastry shop, but the experience may vary and some improvements in service and freshness could further enhance the tradition.
