The restaurant here is truly exceptional and we had the best meal of our week in Italy. The setting is lovely just off the main square of Montone, a delightful hilltop town with stunning views all round. We were seated on the terrace and warmly welcomed by the chef patron. We opted for the a la carte as we couldn’t agree as a table all to have the tasting menu. If I went back I would definitely have this in order to sample more of the food!
The starter of roe deer carpaccio was lovely and came covered in a dome with smoke, theatrically removed on serving. Main was fillet of lamb, which one of our party reckons is the best lamb they have ever tasted. It was special indeed. Dessert may well have been the highlight with the chocolate square absolutely knockout. All in all an absolutely special meal.
The hotel itself is fairly ordinary with basic rooms.

Chiamarla solo cena sarebbe riduttivo, è "un'esperienza" che coinvolge tutti i sensi. All'arrivo si è accolti in questo ambiente elegante e raffinato dal personale e dal padrone di casa, lo Chef Giancarlo Polito, disponibile e sempre pronto a consigliare. Il menù presenta piatti innovativi e ricercati per soddisfare ogni richiesta, presentati in modo impeccabile e raccontati dal personale sempre attento. Ho assaggiato il capriolo, il loro tramonto sul Trasimeno e la fiorentina, ogni boccone è stata un'esplosione di sapori e di sensazioni che se non si provano è difficile raccontare. Per accompagnare il tutto la loro carta dei vini non vi deluderà. Non per ultimo, la cena è accompagnata da un sottofondo musicale che non disturba, anzi allieta. Il rapporto qualità prezzo è eccellente.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at La Locanda del Capitano and it was a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The hotel is perfectly set in the beautiful village of Montone and from room number 8, it was possible to admire a splendid sunset over the roofs of the town.
The rooms, equipped with every comfort, reflect the refinement and elegance of the structure, the staff attentive to every need ensured that my stay was as comfortable as possible. Abundant and varied breakfast.

A great discovery during our weekend in UMBRIA. Dinner of the highest level where the chef tells the beauty of this region through his dishes. An experience that we recommend to readers in a fairytale location. Excellent selection of national wines and excellent room service

Nice restaurant in medieval town. Difficult to reach, because it is not accessible by car. Steep streets and entrance also difficult to reach. Food good, but not sublime and way too expensive. Wine alken per whole bottle and way too expensive.

Splendido locale storico arredato con gusto sopraffino dove gustare prelibatezze servite con maestria ed eleganza.
Lo Chef Polito è una persona piacevolissima che ama il suo lavoro ed accoglie personalmente i suoi clienti facendoli sentire a casa lontano da casa.

A pleasant confirmation!
I returned with a friend for dinner after some time. Everything lived up to expectations. Raw materials at 0 km, curated wine list for all tastes (congratulations host), simple and refined cuisine at the same time, top marks. What can I say, we will be back again! Well done
