03/01/2026: We have to align ourselves with the worst reviews.
Let's start with the completely inadequate reservation process; the phone contact was "non-existent" and there were no alternatives available (a cell phone would suffice while waiting for service to be restored); the service was friendly but left in the hands of a young man, in his defense, completely inexperienced and consequently with major gaps due to seemingly nonexistent training.
Let's move on to the wine list, which is also non-existent: if you're offering a fish-based dinner, it's inconceivable to have the choice limited to just two still white wines (one sold out) and two low-quality, overpriced sparkling wines (€25 for a Charmat-method Chardonnay cuvée).
Let's talk about the menu, referring to our choices.
- Mixed game platter: poor, semi-transparent slices (the salami), all presented with two Parmesan cheeses (I remind you that the Culatello costs €90 per kg; we're pork butchers);
- pappardelle with wild boar ragù: unfortunately, nothing on the plate even hinted at a ragù; the wild boar (5 pieces) was roughly chopped, and the amount of unidentified liquid in the dish would have required the use of a straw or a guided dive;
- polenta with venison: bland polenta, but at least it tasted like polenta, and the consistency matched it. The venison, however, not only didn't taste like venison (and let's not pretend it's due to the seasoning), but it was even more tasteless than an unseasoned chicken steak. Furthermore, the quantity of meat was insufficient (after the first three bites, it was all gone), all this for 'only' 20 euros.
- for dessert, we didn't have the courage to continue.
P.S. If you're going for bread and water, we highly recommend it!

07/01/2026: The experience was quite traumatic. The hotel is still as it was when it opened, in every sense. The rooms are rundown, the carpet is dirty, the bathroom was dirty, and the floorboards creak in a truly annoying way. However, it's not expensive. Breakfast leaves much to be desired. The room is really cold; I had to eat breakfast in my hat and jacket. The sausages, eggs, and bacon were cold and icy. The toast was poor. Even the red fruit tart seemed stale, and the (frozen) croissants were the only edible ones.
The staff was kind and helpful.
The location is good, 500 meters from the center. To reach Campo Smith, there's a free shuttle stop right outside the hotel, which runs every 15 minutes.
04/01/2026: HYGIENE 0. Unfortunately, we hadn't read the reviews beforehand, but we were fooled by the photos on the website. The carpet hadn't been washed since 15/18, the beds were dusty, and the bathroom was the same.
The only redeeming features are the breakfast and dinner, the central location of the hotel, and the friendly staff. The hotel offers free shuttles to the ski resorts, provided by the municipality.

25/08/2025: The aperitif menu is truly inadequate. You offer an aperitif with house selections, which are actually just three biscuits, something you'd find in any bar, where you'd eat more and better, especially with a quality bottle. Not recommended.

18/06/2025: Sono stata a pranzo in questo ristorante e ho segnalato la mia intolleranza al lattosio alla cameriera, che è stata molto gentile e mi ha indicato cosa potevo mangiare. Purtroppo però qualcosa deve essere andato storto in cucina, perché ho avuto tutti i sintomi legati alla mia intolleranza. Peccato, perché il cibo era buono e fresco. Mi auguro che in futuro prestino maggiore attenzione a questi aspetti."

RIFUGIO I RE MAGI

07/02/2025: Bel rifugio in un bel posto! Ho solo usufruito del bar prendendo un panino perchè il ristorante completo. Dicono che per prenotare è meglio un messaggio su Whatsapp perchè il telefono non prende. Però non c'è il POS perchè non c'è internet. Whatsapp si, bancomat no. Mistero !
04/01/2025: Siamo stati al rifugio in 4 amici (due coppie) una notte in mezza pensione 28-29 dicembre. Per arrivarci abbiamo percorso la strada nel bosco, più suggestiva a mio parere rispetto alla gippabile che abbiamo invece utilizzato al ritorno. Al nostro arrivo ci siamo sistemati nelle camerette doppie con letti a castello e abbiamo potuto fare una doccia calda. I bagni sono in comune al piano, comodi e puliti. Dopo qualche partita a carte, alle 19 è stata servita la cena, tutto ottimo e decisamente abbondante! Vari antipasti, polenta e salsiccia, una grande quantità di formaggi e per finire bunet. La notte è passata tranquilla e silenziosa, unica cosa faceva molto caldo, tanto da uscire anche dal sacco lenzuolo. Il giorno dopo abbiamo fatto una ciaspolata fino al Lago Verde, il paesaggio era davvero spettacolare. Sicuramente consigliato in inverno agli amanti delle camminate nella neve con ciaspole o sci, sono curiosa di rivederlo in estate!

07/03/2025: Cenamos en La Cueva: la ubicación era agradable y la comida era buena con precios razonables. Sin embargo, 3 € por una botella de agua ordinaria, 4 € por persona para cubrir el cargo y 7 € por un solo chupito de licor, es realmente demasiado y por lo tanto la factura era excesiva.

26/08/2024: Buona la qualità del cibo ma poca la quantità, considerato il rapporto con il prezzo. Anche gli antipasti erano molto ridotti in termini di quantità. Qualità del vino sfuso molto scarsa.
24/08/2024: Dopo un trekking di circa 15 km, il punto di arrivo per un bel pranzo è stato il rifugio.
Situato in un posto davvero spettacolare, offre il pranzo su turni (ottima soluzione per poter garantire un posto a tutti); vicino alla baita ci sono tavoli liberi dove poter fare picnic o pranzare in self service ciò che offre il ristorante.
Cibo molto buono, personale gentile.
Unica pecca, non è presente un’area ombreggiata all’esterno del ristorante per poter pranzare senza il sole a picco in testa.
P.s. raggiungete il rifugio forniti di contanti perché non c’è la possibilità di pagare con pos.

02/06/2025: Meine Freundin und ich sowie unser Hundesenior genossen mehrere Tage hintereinander diesen herrlichen Platz in einem leicht schattigen Innenhof mit Aperol und leckeren Snacks. Auch in diesem Sommer werden unsere Männer wieder um Bardonecchia Motorrad fahren und wir freuen uns schon jetzt auf unsere Besuche bei Igloo, denn auch das Personal ist super freundlich und nett!
23/03/2025: Dopo una passeggiata volevo concedermi un premio. Ordino un Aperol spritz che mi viene servito senza nulla di accompagnamento e senza un minimo di cortesia. Discreto ma non eccezionale vado alla cassa e pago 8 euro. Mi è parso uno sproposito per quanto servito o meglio non servito e per l'assenza di empatia. Pazienza, siamo a Bardonecchia e ci tocca strapagare qualsiasi cosa!

06/01/2025: Il ristorante si trova nel suggestivo Borgo Vecchio di Bardonecchia, in posizione un po' defilata. Il cibo è ottimo, l'accoglienza è magnifica: il posto ideale per condividere un pasto con i propri amici, come faccio ormai da tempo ogni volta che mi capita di soggiornare a Bardonecchia.

23/03/2024: We visited this bar a few times as one of the few options available in the Jafferau region. It's a lovely scenic location on the slopes, and gets loss of sun. Even though the slopes were quiet during the week while we were there, this bar gets very busy around lunch time. They mainly serve food options like sandwiches and paninis. These were really good, and in particular I had a salmon, tomato and avocado wrap which was really large, fresh and tasty. Worth a visit to soak in the atmosphere in the sun.
06/03/2024: Dopo 4 giorni in cui giravamo per le varie pieste di Bardonecchia mangiando praticamente solo panini, ci siamo imbattuti in questa mini-baita. Per 27 euro abbiamo preso due birre medie e un tagliere con 4 diversi tipi di salumi, salsine e formaggi, il tutto bello abbondante e accompagnato da altrettanti grissini/pane. La qualità era ottima, i prezzi giusti, il personale gentile e il panorama incantevole. La musica altra nota positiva. Sono già due giorni che ci passiamo e torneremo sicuramente!
