10/04/2026: STOP IN VARAZZE
Another business trip. During the trip, we stop in Varazze for lunch. We wander through the alleys of the historic center and decide to stop at the Gianni e Franca restaurant. We sit at one of the outdoor tables set directly in the alleyway.
We order a bottle of water and choose a half-liter carafe of the house white wine. Acceptable.
The service, let's say, is rather basic.
We order the same first course, Scialatielli (Neapolitan artisanal pasta) with seafood, zucchini, and cherry tomatoes. A kind of tagliatelle, but shorter and wider. Cooked nicely al dente. The sauce is generous, with mussels, clams, and shrimp. Delicious.
There's still room for a second course to share. We choose the second course that best suits our desire to nibble with our hands and share. A mixed seafood fritto (fried fish) featuring mostly calamari, then shrimp (a few), and a few small fish. A decent dish. We add a single side of French fries.
Two coffees before continuing our journey. The bill came to €58. The location and service were questionable, but the food offered a more than decent quality/price ratio. Not bad, but I'm not sure I'd return.

11/03/2026: Very good food. A bit pricey and not full on a Saturday night when it really should have been. Some if the best food I've had for years here in Italy though (I live here). And you can park outside.
26/10/2025: A fantastic discovery. I went there for dinner yesterday for the first time and will definitely be back. Wonderful dishes prepared with top-quality seasonal ingredients. Honorable mention goes to the gnocchi with parmesan cream and truffle. The wine list is also excellent and extensive. The staff, led by Massimiliano and Marianna, is friendly, polite, and always attentive to their guests' needs...they make you feel welcome...

23/02/2026: Attentive and friendly staff. Service is just right. The atmosphere is informal, pleasant, and relaxed. Excellent traditional meat-based cuisine, exceptional meats, and a tender slice of Fassona beef. Prices are in line with the quality of the offerings.

11/04/2026: The food was delicious, everything was excellent, congratulations! It's easy to get there by car and you can go for walks. It's a shame about the repeaters, which ruin the scenery a bit.
04/03/2026: A quaint refuge with a welcoming veranda offering a fantastic view and delicious inland cuisine. The ravioli with amazing mushroom sauce are delicious, and the cold cuts and cheeses on the platter are also excellent and authentic. Super friendly staff, lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended.

I feel sorry for the waiter because he was really kind and had sensed that things weren't going well.
22/03/2026: For us, Sundays now mean pizza at the Bowling Charlie Pub in Ostra di Senigallia. The pizza is always delicious, light, and made with quality ingredients—a sure thing every time we return.
A special thanks to Evelina, always attentive to the needs of the table, kind, smiling, and truly empathetic. It's also thanks to her that we feel welcomed every Sunday like at home. Highly recommended.

27/09/2025: It looks nice from the outside, but eating there seems to be very difficult outside of the season. You can reserve tables online, but they don't always coincide with the opening hours. The nice thing is that you only get three hours' notice that the restaurant is closing for the evening, even after you've made a reservation five days in advance. This is an issue with most restaurants in the city, though.

Great atmosphere, and we accidentally found the conservatory with live music. Perfect for a quiet dinner.

Hotel Astigiana Restaurant

22/03/2026: A truly charming place to stay in Varazze. The breakfast is fantastic and the chef is very friendly. The property is in a great location, the room was compact, and the bathroom was impeccable. We stayed there for two nights and had a wonderful time. The people are very kind, positive, and helpful. You can stroll around Varazze at your leisure and enjoy the famous rose gelato.
