31/07/2026: As a native of the Gail Valley living abroad, one simply must visit the mountain that greets you so imposingly on the drive home from Villach – the Oisternig. Its very appearance promises a magnificent view of both the upper and lower Gail Valley. So, we simply decided to pay this summit a visit. The Feistritzer Alm is a typical alpine village with several huts and one rather unfortunate neoclassical building 😉. After tackling the well-marked path to the Oisternig, we enjoyed the magnificent view of an almost idyllic landscape that actually encompasses three countries. After the descent, we were thirsty and hungry, and the alpine inn beckoned. A rustic hut with shady outdoor seating offered a place for a very good meal. As a Frikka (a type of meatball), I accordingly chose one with polenta accompanied by elderberry juice. And I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. It was tasty with a bit of a kick and quite filling. My better half thoroughly enjoyed Carinthian noodles. The young man who was our host was exceptionally friendly, fluent in at least two languages, and efficient. The prices are definitely reasonable for what's offered. This mountain pasture is certainly worth a visit.

13/07/2026: Discovered by chance, we had such a wonderful dinner that we immediately returned the next day for lunch. It's a little corner of paradise, with beautiful interiors and an al fresco outdoor area with a spectacular view of the mountains. The service is friendly and professional, there's a wide variety of dishes, and the ingredients are top-quality. The draft beer is also excellent (Augustiner is always top-notch). The prices are definitely reasonable. I'll be back soon, and I'm happy to.

It's easily accessible, either with a pleasant stroll from the center of Valbruna or by car, thanks to the large and convenient parking lot. The chalet is very well-kept, clean, and welcoming. The outdoor tables, overlooking the Montasio and surrounding meadows, offer a simply spectacular view. The staff is smiling, friendly, and attentive. The menu offers a wide selection, including options for those, like me, who don't eat meat. The prices are absolutely fair for the quality and location. A place I recommend without hesitation and will definitely return!

12/07/2026: After my mountain bike ride, I took a break. I had the one-course meal with sausage, polenta, and frico. Excellent! Friendly and helpful service. Clean, and reasonably priced.

30/04/2026: Where trains used to run, there is now the cycle path to Grado; the old train station is a cyclists' rest stop with good food, but only open at lunchtime until 2:30 pm.

09/08/2026: This is probably the first exit with a place to grab Italian coffee after crossing the border from Austria. It may be a chain, but it's a very nice option. I have no complaints. The restrooms are relatively clean, the coffee is good, and the service is fast. Overall, it's good.
