Every time we come to Padre Pio, we look for a special place to stop, and this time we discovered a true gem right next to the church: the trattoria "C'era una Volta."
From the first moment, we were greeted with rare kindness: the owners immediately made us feel at home, with that simplicity and warmth that make all the difference.
We had thought about having an appetizer and a steak, but one of the owners recommended we try only their Marchigiana, raised in San Giorgio del Sannio. And thank goodness we trusted him... it's truly poetic! 🥩Tender, tasty, cooked to perfection: a flavor that speaks volumes about the quality of the ingredients and the passion of those who prepare them.
But the surprise doesn't end there: a splendid cellar holds precious wines, a little corner of paradise for those who love good wine. We accompanied our lunch with an excellent glass of wine 🍷, enjoying every moment.
And then a little detail that we really appreciated: no Wi-Fi. A detail that invites you to truly unplug, talk, smile, and enjoy the pleasure of dining without distractions.
If you pass by Padre Pio, stop by "C'era una Volta": you'll find excellent food, a sincere welcome, and people who do their job with all their heart.

While we were on the tour in the footsteps of Padre Pio, as the organizer, I ordered lunch for all the guests at the Ristorante Il Sannio in Pietralcina!
I must say we ate really well.
Friendly staff
And fair prices.

A perfect destination for families and motorcyclists who want to relax in nature for a few hours.
Family-run businesses that create a "grandma's house" atmosphere, especially son Angelo (waiter), a wonderful guy who makes you laugh and offers amazing food.
I highly recommend everyone to come here at least once in their life.

The prices aren't excessive, and the staff is top-notch.
As for the place, I liked the retro feel; it felt like it was in another era. It's not huge, but the tables are well-spaced, so you don't feel crowded together. Alternatively, there's seating on the veranda.
They have a good selection of pizzas and beers.
I gave it 4 stars because I was a little disappointed with the payment. I have no complaints about the prices, as they're honest. My disappointment is with the payment method.
Basically, they don't accept split payments, but a lump sum.
We usually have several couples, and we pay the bill by splitting the bill between each couple. Then, like in many other places, we pay in cash or by debit card. Unfortunately, this isn't allowed here, and that's not a good thing in my opinion.
25/04/2026: The pizza is truly delicious. The dough is incredibly light and easy to digest, and the ingredients are perfectly measured. The desserts are magical. They're all handmade and refined to perfection. The owners are incredibly kind and welcoming. Well done, well done.

25/04/2026: A small, intimate restaurant just steps from Padre Pio's birthplace. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. I personally opted for the staff's recommendation: perfectly cooked pasta, tasty meat, and generous portions. I highly recommend the grilled steak, it was delicious. The price was more than fair. See you next time!

We can't figure out where the list of dishes is, then we realize they're on the first page, in 7-8 lines, all together, without spaces, with no distinction between appetizers, first courses, second courses, side dishes... I've never seen a more hastily put together and disorganized menu than this one. This leaves us very perplexed and, unfortunately, doesn't bode well; as they say: a good start to the day begins... and so it was throughout lunch! We are brought the usual filtered water, in an unlikely bottle. We order first courses: cicatelli with broccoli and mezze maniche with mixed fish, cuttlefish, and shrimp. The cicatelli are in broth, while the mezze maniche have been spotted with a telescope. When we complain, we are told that it was a "seafood ragù." The best, however, came with the main courses: a boneless shank, paradoxically reduced to a small piece of boiled, tasteless meat, and a boiled, tasteless, and smelly veal shoulder, accompanied by a salty sauce and two small, bland, flavorless side dishes. It's best to draw a veil over the desserts...

30/11/2025: I first encountered Boda de Ciondro about 10 years ago, when I had the opportunity to appreciate their catering for two weddings. I was looking for a venue for my 40th birthday; I wanted a welcoming, refined yet bucolic atmosphere, and above all, one that offered unconventional cuisine, different from traditional restaurants or farmhouses. A few months ago, I happened to read an article about the restaurant, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, and it was a revelation. I contacted them, and after exchanging a few emails, we organized a Sunday lunch for 14 people. I trusted them and trusted them; ten years is a long time, and my memory of it could have been different from the current reality... Instead, it did not disappoint. I couldn't have made a better choice. Everything was perfect. Even though I didn't opt for the "event" option, I still showed all the consideration due to those celebrating a special day. My guests appreciated and enjoyed all the dishes offered, which, as I hoped, reflected the soul of the restaurant: refined but without forgetting tradition.

20/04/2026: I've been eating at this agriturismo every now and then for almost 10 years, and it's seen a dramatic decline. Before, you could eat a lot of good quality food for a modest price. Now, with prices rising significantly, you eat much less, and the products aren't as good as they once were. And I want to ignore the neomelodic music I was forced to listen to. I won't be going back. It's no longer worth it.
06/04/2026: The food was truly excellent, everything fresh and carefully prepared. The staff was incredibly kind, always available, and very welcoming. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxing, we'll definitely be back!

03/05/2026: This trattoria is just steps from the square, in a central location, and is an excellent choice for lunch if you're visiting Pietrelcina. The restaurant reflects the ancient character of the place, but my only complaint is this: I ordered a first course and was brought another. I ate what they gave me anyway, knowing it was a somewhat stressful and unusual day (May 1st), so I left it alone, but they could certainly have apologized in some way. Other than that, the food was all very good.
