I also come from Puglia and work in the restaurant industry. I can say that this business is family-run and they work hard. The offer is varied, the environment is very nice and characteristic especially the tavern downstairs where you can choose from a variety of wines.
I honestly found the food good even if nothing sophisticated or refined.
Let's look at the negative aspect that I have to point out to my "fellow" restaurateurs: one of the owners comes to me and asks me "so what can I bring you"? And I tell him "I don't know what you have, so how can I tell you what to bring me"?
This is to tell him, bring the menu so I can see what you have and decide.
They don't have a menu so it's not possible to know what they prepare and above all how much the courses cost. But what's even more serious is that nowadays the menu is essential to see intolerances and allergens (something unknown in this place).
You go a bit groping, also because you don't understand what they bring you and how much you pay for it.
We took some meat and we went by trust on the weight (but also on the price) because you need a scale with the receipt to actually understand if that meat was 600 g as they told us.
All in all, half of the dishes and their prices are in line with the market, but the other half are not.
But not displaying the price and not letting you see the menu seems more like a tactic to catch tourists (and I was not a tourist).
The only place where the price was visible was the cellar with the wines. We appreciated the fact that they offered us a digestive.
However, I want to take a photo of the bill because the "fiscal" receipt?? if you draw the sum The total paid does not coincide with the sum of the dishes. In my life it is the only place where they rounded up.
Dear colleagues, it is definitely a place not to recommend to other people, not for the quality of the food, but for everything else.
With €140 here in Puglia I will make you a seafood menu that you will never forget in your life.

Located in the center of Pietralcina, there is the trattoria C' era una volta, a rustic place just the way I like it, made of very characteristic stone and wood. Inside you can visit a cellar with typical wines and local products. Excellent food, I advise you to ask for the menu and wine list which will be given to you easily. Fast service and friendly staff

Sono stata in questo locale sabato sera con il mio ragazzo ..il cibo è stato tutto ottimo dagli antipasti ai primi (ci siamo fermati perché le porzioni erano belle abbondanti) . La gentilezza e simpatia del personale è un tocco in più . Il locale molto caratteristico con cantina (ambiente bellissimo) . Peperone imbottito scomposto super!

I went to this place this evening with my boyfriend... the food was all excellent from the starters to the first courses (we stopped because the portions were quite generous). The kindness and friendliness of the staff is an extra touch. The very characteristic place with cellar (beautiful environment). Super decomposed stuffed pepper!
