Cannot fault this place. Fitted us in later on a busy night and the food was amazing. I had truffle steak, genuinely, the most delicious, tender steak I've ever tasted. The freshly made pasta, also stunning. Be sure to book a table in advance as it is often full.

We ended up at this restaurant after reading positive reviews and hearing good things. Let me start by saying the food was good. The service, however, was lacking. There was no personal touch; they seemed to prioritize turning the table over quickly. There was only a five-minute gap between the starter and the main course. We ended up spending less than an hour there, whereas we had expected an evening-long dining experience. Unfortunately, they fell short of the high expectations.

Dining al fresco on San Donato's main street is an experience in itself. This trattoria boasts impeccable service and excellent food, though the portions are a bit small, and the prices reflect that. The owner is delightful. Highly recommended if you're in the area and as a perfect end to your visit to this charming town.

Beautiful location in the old town, but unfortunately uninspired and overpriced... We visited the restaurant because of its fantastic location in the middle of a quaint alley in the old town. The ambiance is truly lovely, and the service staff was very friendly and attentive throughout the evening. However, the meal was a mixed experience. While the homemade pasta is generally very tasty—my tagliatelle with ragù was delicious, and the price-performance ratio was acceptable—the overall presentation of the food was rather uninspired. My husband had the ravioli with "truffle sauce." While they tasted okay, €20 for exactly seven pieces is simply too expensive for the quality. The sauce was just a basic flour and cream base with only a few paper-thin truffle shavings. The balance was also off with the other dishes: the tagliata was drowned in an overly sweet sauce. The side dishes were particularly disappointing: The salad, which cost €5, clearly came from a package, and the portion of frozen fries, also €5, which you could count individually, struck us as rather cheeky. It's a shame, because the homemade pasta had so much more potential.

The food was good, but unfortunately I don't think the truffle ravioli were worth the €20 price tag. I ordered ravioli, and the portion consisted of only seven pieces; for that price, I would have expected a slightly more generous portion. The tagliata was a bit too sweet and was served without any sides (they offered me potatoes, and I got French fries, and then a €5 surcharge, but even then, the portions were really small). I'd also like to add a small note about the service: after they brought us water, we weren't asked if we'd like anything else to drink; we just ordered a bottle of wine. At the end of the meal, we waited about 15 minutes, hoping someone would come to the table, and in the end, we had to get up and ask the waiters if it was possible to order a coffee. We finally did, and waited another 30 minutes for the coffee to arrive. Overall, the experience would have been more balanced if the prices were lower, but with the current menu, I don't feel like it's a completely reasonable value. I travel extensively around the world and have eaten in a wide variety of places, experiencing every price range, including restaurants with Michelin-starred chefs. Personally, I don't think I'll return, but I still encourage everyone to stop by and try it and form their own opinion. It's a real shame, however, to feel like tourists are being somewhat penalized financially.

I returned to La Toppa 18 years after my first visit, and nothing has changed from my initial impression: a beautiful, historic restaurant, authentic, high-quality Tuscan cuisine (the pappardelle with duck sauce is fabulous!), truly delicious rosé by the glass, attentive and courteous service, and a very fair price for what I ordered. A trattoria with a hint of ancient Tuscany that will remain a point of reference for me in the beautiful village of San Donato.
