Agriristoro Fratelli Pira
Ischia di castro
15/04/2025: Immersed in the Tuscia countryside, a fantastic home-produced restaurant. The farm is excellent and the cheeses are its strong point. Many varieties of dairy products, cured meats and dishes, all made at km0. The price is really low for the great quality offered. Probably one of the best places in the Viterbo area to eat well.
The service was excellent, the lady who took care of our table immediately made herself available for any need, even offering lunch to the little one at the table.
08/04/2025: First of all: I had already tried the excellent cheese from Fratelli Pira in the star restaurant "La Parolina" (near Acquapendente) and in the Ristorante "Unicorno" in Farnese - and had also previously bought it in the attached shop. The Restaurant: The drive to the restaurant is a little adventure. You can reach the beautifully located and elegantly furnished restaurant via dirt roads and the smallest streets. (It was a cool spring day, there are tables outside too, but we were inside. I don't know yet whether they'll be set.) What's important: Nothing is less than three courses - so you can't drive here and only order a Primo. The prices for the three courses? I can't remember exactly, but it's not cheap. Was it 30 or 35 euros? What is sensational: the cheese selection. There are probably around 50 types of cheese, all beautifully decorated on round tables, including very good blue cheese. Lots of sheep, but also cows and goats. There's also sausage and salad, as well as all sorts of other Sardinian delicacies - you can have as much of everything as you want. There are then three or four Sardinian primi and three or four secondi to choose from, which are presented to you by the very attentive service. (Knowledge of Italian is a big advantage.) Everything is very neat, primi and secondi are interesting, but not outstanding. The wine selection is interesting. At least 200 items from all over Italy from around 20 euros per bottle are on the menu or are presented on a wine rack in the restaurant. (What surprised me a bit: bottles standing upright in a room with an inconsistent temperature.) Overall: An experience. Not for every day, but definitely every now and then: Pira is worth a (small) trip. Grazie mille. We'll be back.
